Sir Lewis Hamilton experienced a massive culture shock when he moved to Formula One team Ferrari - although he is happy he no longer has to endure the smell of curry on race days.
The seven-time Formula One world champion got used to working with a largely British garage when driving for McLaren and Mercedes before making the switch to Ferrari in 2025, for which he now spends most of his time in Maranello, Italy.
Lewis, 40, admits the culture is totally different with his Italian team making time for a lengthy lunch each day, but one thing he doesn't miss is the strong smell of spices and garlic on a Sunday morning, which was what would enter his nostrils because his British technical team and mechanics would always go for a curry on a Saturday night before race day.
Ahead of the British Grand Prix this Sunday (06.07.25), Lewis made an appearance in London week to mark the grand opening of The House of Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0 and spilled about how his life has changed since becoming a Scuderia Ferrari HP driver to Nick Grimshaw.
He said: "The Brits loved curry, my British team they would always have a curry so like on Sunday morning when they'd come into the race they'd literally stink, they all smelled of curry in the morning, garlic was just in our engineering room all the time.
"They weren't passionate about food otherwise. Italians? Oh my God. There's literally a scheduled time in the day, lunch they can never, ever miss.

"Sometimes I go into the garage to talk to my mechanics, I'm like, where is everyone? They're at lunch.
"I think they're the only team that does that!"
Lewis has won the British Grand Prix nine times and been on the race's podium 11 times throughout his illustrious career.
And despite having zero podium places so far out of the 11 races this season, Lewis is hoping for a "strong result" at his beloved Silverstone track.
Speaking at a media day on Thursday (03.07.25), he optimistically said: "There is always magic here at Silverstone.
"It is a very, very special race, and I am hoping all sorts of things can help us. I am hoping and praying.
"I cannot wait for Friday. Driving a Ferrari at Silverstone for the first time will be special and unique in its own way. We have the best fans here, and for a British driver, they really do make a difference."
Following Lewis launching The House of Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0, the attraction is open until July 5 and features a full schedule of immersive fan experiences with highlights including a pizza masterclass with 50 Top Pizza Europa no.1 Pizza Chef Michele Pascarella, and a cocktail-making workshop hosted by award-winning mixologist Federico Riezzo. Here, guests can learn to create pizzas and drinks inspired by Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
The House of Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0 is located at The Stables, Covent Garden.

Steve Coogan says ‘disappointing' Labour year will ‘pave the way' for Reform UK
Speaking to The Guardian, Coogan said the current Labour Government is 'no different from a Conservative government in neglecting ordinary people'. Steve Coogan recently starred in The Penguin Lessons (Lucy North/PA) 'What they're doing is putting Band-Aids on the gash in the side of the Titanic,' he said. 'The success of Reform, I lay squarely at the feet of the neoliberal consensus, which has let down working people for the last 40 years and they're fed up. It doesn't matter who they vote for, nothing changes for them. 'They'll pave the way for the only alternative, which is a racist clown. Reform (UK) couldn't organise a p*** up in a brewery, but if there's no alternative, you understand why working people will make that choice.' This comes after the Labour Government marked one year since winning the 2024 general election. Coogan said he could understand why voters were turning to Reform (Jeff Moore/PA) Coogan added: 'It's not just the fact that people are disempowered and feel like they have no autonomy. It's compounded by the fact that these people, these multinationals, are enabled and supported by the Government to keep their foot on the neck of working people. 'If any government wants to address that extremism, what they have to do is tackle the root cause…(which is) poverty and economic decline in the post-industrial landscape, especially in the North. 'If Labour addressed that problem, Reform would go away – all their support would dissipate.' Coogan also said he agreed 'wholeheartedly' with MP Zarah Sultana's statement shared on Thursday which said the Government had failed to 'improve people's lives' and that the 'two-party system offers nothing but managed decline and broken promises'. Ms Sultana also announced that she was quitting the Labour Party to co-lead a left-wing alternative with former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. Coogan is best known for portraying Alan Partridge, a persona which pokes fun at British broadcasters, having appeared in several TV series as well as the 2013 feature film Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa. The Government has been contacted for comment.

Lewis Capaldi sends emotional message to fans at Noah Kahan concert
Lewis Capaldi is back in the spotlight, where he belongs (Image: Getty Images) Lewis Capaldi sent a tear-jerking message to fans at Noah Kahan's gig in Hyde Park last night. The Scottish star, 28, who brought the house down singing Northern Attitude with Kahan - who has been vocal about his own mental health journey - is now back where he belongs after taking a break from the spotlight following a difficult few years. Following his glittering return to Glastonbury last week after taking time out to focus on his mental health and 'adjust' to his Tourette's diagnosis after he was left unable to finish his set back at Worthy Farm in 2023, Lewis told fans - who had no idea he would be performing at BST - he was glad to be back. Thanking the audience for their "outpouring of love", he continued: "I've been away for a little while and to come back to this outpouring of love and support has been absolutely incredible. "I can't thank everybody enough for all the kind words since Glastonbury - and now this! It's been the best week of my life. I hope you continue to enjoy the song, it means a lot to me." After bringing fans to tears at Glastonbury last week, Lewis has shifted a whopping 68,500 Survive records in its first week, including more than four million streams, surpassing the much-loved singer's previous best of 56,000 with the 2022 song Forget Me. The musician, who has spoken openly about having been diagnosed with Tourette syndrome, heartbreakingly had to pull out of Glastonbury two years ago as he told fans: "I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order." Noah played Northern Attitude with Lewis (Image: Getty) Lewis issued an update later that year in which he said: "I'm currently taking some time off to focus on my health and wellbeing and it's been going great!" Following his epic comeback last week, it has now been announced that Lewis will embark on a UK and Ireland tour later this year. The news was shared on June 30 and it's been revealed that the star will perform ten shows in cities including Manchester and Glasgow. The new tour, which will be Lewis' first headline tour in more than two years, will kick off in Sheffield on September 7 and is scheduled to conclude in Dublin on September 29. The Hold Me While You Wait star will visit a host of other cities in between those two dates, including two nights at the O2 in London. He will also visit venues in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham and Cardiff. Lions claim scrappy win over Waratahs to remain unbeaten Down Under
The British & Irish Lions continued their unbeaten run on Australian soil this summer as they saw off a spirited NSW Waratahs side despite an unconvincing performance in Sydney. Andy Farrell's men were not at their best in what was a scrappy encounter at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening, but ran in three tries to seal a 10-21 victory over the Super Rugby side. A Huw Jones brace put the Lions ahead in the first half, but the hosts hit back with tries from Darby Lancaster and Ethan Dobbins either side of the break. Alex Mitchell then grabbed a third to restore some breathing room for his team, as the tourists saw out the win in what proved to be a scoreless final half an hour. Farrell will be frustrated with what was a disjointed showing from his side, who failed to get a grip on their handling errors over the course of the 80 minutes and left more than a few tries out on the field. However, there were still some big positives for the Lions boss to take, including his team's defensive line speed and a powerful scrum that took the Waratahs pack to the cleaners on almost every occasion. The victory follows impressive wins over Western Force and Queensland Reds, with the opening Test against the Wallabies in Brisbane now just two weeks away.
