Woman, 20, found dead with dozens of iPhones glued to her body as police launch investigation
The 20-year-old became unwell during a long-distance journey and passed away before she could be taken to the hospital.
Police have now launched an investigation into the bizarre case.
The woman was travelling alone from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo when the bus stopped at a restaurant in Guarapuava, in the central region of Paraná.
Emergency services were called after she complained of breathing difficulties.
She was treated by Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) workers, who said she was awake but struggling to breathe.
Shortly afterwards, she began to show signs of respiratory distress and appeared to suffer a seizure.
Paramedics attempted to revive her for 45 minutes, but she was declared dead at the scene.
It was while trying to treat her that medics noticed several packages attached to her body. Police later discovered 26 iPhones had been glued directly to her skin.
Officers from the Military Police called in forensic teams from the Scientific Police and Civil Police.
A sniffer dog did not detect any drugs on the woman, but several bottles of alcohol were found in her luggage and seized.
In a statement, Paraná Civil Police said: 'The Paraná Civil Police are investigating the case and awaiting the conclusion of forensic reports to clarify the cause of death.'
According to preliminary information, the woman, who was alone, was travelling from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo.
The 26 cell phones that were glued to her body were seized and sent to the Federal Revenue Service.'
Her identity has not been made public, and the investigation is ongoing.

Kristel Candelario, who left her 16-month-old daughter Jailyn behind while she went on holiday, has explained why she carried out such a 'diabolical act', which resulted in a tragedy that continues to haunt investigators A mother who was sentenced to life in prison has opened up about why she left her 16-month-old daughter at home alone while she headed off on holiday from June 6 to June 16. Kristel Candelario, from Cleveland, Ohio, left little Jailyn unattended for 10 days while she took a trip to Detroit, Michigan, and Puerto Rico. When she returned, Candelario, who acknowledged having "committed a diabolical act", found the toddler unresponsive and called the police. The 'extremely dehydrated" little girl was discovered in a filthy playpen covered with faeces and urine. Tragically, she was declared dead by the Cleveland Division of Police (CPD), with investigators describing the case as the most harrowing they'd had to deal with in the course of their careers. In February 2024, Candelario pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated murder and one count of child endangerment and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Candelario has since told her side of the story, explaining that she had been suffering mental health problems in the run-up to her daughter's death. On one of these occasions, she'd been experiencing suicidal thoughts. Candelario told the publication: "For that reason, I was in the hospital without being able to walk for exactly almost two weeks. And in the month of March, I mean, my [now] ex-boyfriend and I wanted to take a vacation." Freeing her ex of any blame in the matter, Candelario emphasised that she'd informed him that she'd be leaving Jailyn in the care of her mother. Explaining that the decision to travel arose from her mental state at that time, Candelario said: "Actually, I left for the trip as a result of an impulse that I had, that I took, grabbed my four things, and ran out of the house like when someone is being chased. 'It's not that at that moment I thought that, 'Ah, I was going to Puerto Rico ... I was going to be super comfortable.' No, I never thought that. I simply wanted to get away from a life of stress, depression, and anxiety. I didn't want to continue living, because I had had a lot of problems in my life.' Others on the trip reportedly noticed that Candelario wasn't acting like herself, and she also recalled how, on one of the days, her then-boyfriend asked her about Jailyn. She responded that the little girl was fine, remembering: "When he mentioned [the girl] to me, it was like when someone reminds you of someone who's not with you at that moment." For a few moments, Candelario considered contacting a neighbour to check on Jailyn, but never did so, a decision she now regards as a "mistake." At this time, Candelario's parents were away on a separate trip with her other child, a then-seven-year-old girl. They believed Candelario had stayed at home to care for Jailyn and had no idea that their baby granddaughter had been left alone in her playpen, with a few bottles of milk. Opening up about the moment she returned and found Jailyn unresponsive, Candelario, who has described her daughters as her "whole world", shared: 'That's when my world fell apart. Not because maybe I was thinking about going to prison. That's the least important thing, because one is an adult and one can accept one's mistakes. [I was in] despair. I felt she could be saved; things didn't have to happen that way because my daughter was doing well, I always took care of her.' During Candelario's sentencing, as per CNN, the court heard how Jailyn's screams were captured on a neighbour's doorbell camera. Addressing the Cleveland courtroom, forensic pathologist Elizabeth Mooney emphasised the agony the child must have endured in her final days. Showing emotion, Ms Mooney told the court: 'The pain and suffering she endured lasted not only hours, not days, but possibly even a week. This feeling of abandonment for days on end, coupled with the pain of starvation and extreme thirst, is a type of suffering I don't think any of us could ever fully fathom.' While handing down sentencing, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Brendan Sheehan told Candelario: 'The bond between a mother and a child is one of the most purest and most sacred bonds. It's a relationship built on love, trust, and unwavering protection. … You committed the ultimate act of betrayal. 'That little baby persevered, waiting for someone to save her. And you could have done that with a simple phone call. Instead, I see photos of you on a beach while your child was eating her own faeces in an attempt to survive.' He continued: 'Just as you didn't let Jailyn out of her confinement until she died, so too you should spend the rest of your life in a cell without freedom,' Sheehan said. 'The only difference is that prison will at least feed you.'

Australian mum Monique Ellen Burton attempted to hide her baby's body behind the sofa in a case which has been described as "tragic on numerous levels" A court has heard how a woman hid the body of her own baby behind the sofa, after cruelly deceiving her partner. During sentencing on Friday (August 1), Monique Ellen Burton was handed a 19-month suspended jail sentence after pleading guilty to one count of interfering with a corpse. The 35-year-old West Australian mum, who appeared before Perth District Court, concealed her pregnancy from Shaun Balaam, her partner of 14 years. When Balaam, who was not the child's biological father, quizzed her about whether or not she was pregnant, Burton insisted that she appeared bloated, as she was suffering from liver cirrhosis. It comes after a woman, 20, was found dead on bus with 26 iPhones glued to her body. reports that, on the evening of August 19, 2022, after Balaam had gone to sleep, Burton gave birth to a boy on the bathroom floor of her Geraldton home. After wrapping up the newborn in clothing and placing him in a plastic bag, Burton hid him behind the couch in the lounge. As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, a post-mortem examination could not determine if the baby had been stillborn. However, Burton stated that this had been the case, with Judge Darren Renton noting: "You said there was no noise from the baby and he looked like a doll." The judge also remarked that Burton's interference with the body was 'naive' and not intended to be permanent, describing it as 'an 'out of sight, out of mind' act.' The morning after Burton gave birth in secret, Balaam discovered Burton on the sofa with blood on her legs. She told him she was feeling nauseous and unwell, but still continued to deny that she'd been pregnant even after being taken to the hospital. Later that same day, Balaam returned home and began searching for a phone belonging to his mum, who'd been caring for their children at the house. It was then that he came across a black plastic bag, hidden behind the couch. Although he couldn't see what was inside, Balaam did feel a heavy, hard lump, which he suspected could have been a baby's head, given Burton's history of hiding her pregnancies. The court heard how Balaan didn't check whether or not there was a baby inside the bag, and instead wrapped it in another bag, which he placed in the freezer. Eventually, after medical tests indicated that she had indeed recently given birth, Burton confessed to hospital staff, admitting: 'I don't know what is wrong with me". On August 25, 2022, the child, referred to only as 'Baby Burton', was found in a chest freezer on the back veranda of Burton's home. Balaam told officers that he hadn't known what was in the bag or checked inside, and had freaked out at the possibility that it could be a baby. He explained that he'd put the bag in the freezer, as this is what would have been done at a morgue. After being arrested and interviewed, Burton told officers that her memory was "really fuzzy" and that she'd disassociated. Judge Renton said: "This is a tragic case on numerous levels." Taking into account Burton's depressive episodes since the tragic death of her 15-month-old son two years before, from medical complications, Judge Renton conceded that her criminal culpability was 'the lower end' of the scale, while asserting that her actions 'involved a degree of indignity towards Baby Burton'. The judge remarked that the fact that Balaam was not the child's biological father could have partly explained Burton's actions. However, she had denied that this was the reason why she kept her pregnancy a secret. Although he had some misgivings about Burton's credibility, as per ABC News Australia, Judge Renton told the court that "it seems likely that baby Burton was stillborn". It was also noted that Burton, who has expressed remorse for her actions, had hidden two prior pregnancies, with one child passing away at a young age. On top of the aforementioned guilty plea, Burton also pleaded guilty to multiple charges of fraud related to a GoFundMe campaign. This page, which was set up by a friend who'd been informed that Burton was terminally ill, had raised more than $3,000 AUD. Although Burton, who has an "adjustment disorder", had not started the campaign herself, it's understood that she had been aware that her friend intended to do so. As well as a 19-month prison term suspended for 12 months, Burton is also required to undergo a treatment program focused on personal development, psychiatric needs, and parenting. Last year, Balaam was sentenced to a 12-month community-based order over his charges.
