Telangana should become first state to integrate AI into governance: Dy CM Bhatti

HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday said Telangana should aim to become the first state in India to fully integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into governance. He said training should be provided at all levels—from Principal Secretaries to village officials. The deputy chief minister made these comments while chairing a meeting of the sub-committee of the Board of Governors of the Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Institute (MCRHRD). He said the state government would support efforts to develop MCRHRD into the country's leading training institute. 'The institute occupies 30 acres and is headed by a former chief secretary. Staff and officials must make full use of its services. It should also work towards self-sufficiency and financial growth,' Vikramarka said. He proposed two-day training programmes at district and mandal levels for leaders of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), aimed at supporting their economic development. He also said that MCRHRD had been neglected over the past decade and promised that the Sub-Committee would meet every six months to assess progress. The finance minister suggested that the institute should be equipped to keep pace with global technological developments. IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu recommended issuing certificates to officials completing AI-related training. He also said college principals should be trained on steps needed to obtain NAAC accreditation, which could improve their eligibility for central government funding. Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, Director General and Vice-Chairperson Santhi Kumari and other officials attended.

Pakistan confers key honour on US CentCom chief who praised its counterterror role

US CENTCOM chief General Michael Kurilla has been awarded Pakistan's top military honour, the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military), by President Asif Ali Zardari, signalling Islamabad's intent to strengthen defence ties with Washington amid growing geopolitical and financial pressures. read more US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief General Michael Kurilla has been awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military), one of Pakistan's highest state honours, by President Asif Ali Zardari, in a move seen as a signal of Islamabad's commitment to its defence ties with Washington. The award was presented during a high-profile ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Islamabad, where Kurilla was also given a Tri-Services Guard of Honour. The Pakistani government cited Kurilla's contributions to regional peace, counterterrorism, and efforts to strengthen strategic military cooperation between Pakistan and the US. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD State broadcaster Radio Pakistan noted the honour recognised Kurilla's 'outstanding role in regional security and defence ties.' His visit included meetings with key military and political figures, including President Zardari and Army Chief General Asim Munir, focusing on defence cooperation and counterterrorism strategies. The development comes just over a month after Kurilla praised Pakistan as a 'phenomenal partner' in counterterrorism, remarks made even as India stepped up diplomatic efforts to highlight Pakistan's record on terror financing, particularly after the Pahalgam terror attack. Diplomatic sources say the gesture is part of Pakistan's broader effort to maintain strategic balance between the US and China, and to rebuild goodwill in Washington amid ongoing concerns related to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Pakistan was removed from FATF's grey list in 2022, but scrutiny remains, especially from countries like India, which continues to press for action over Islamabad's alleged inaction on terror networks. The US, a founding member of FATF, plays a key role in shaping its policies. Pakistan's outreach, through high-profile honours and military cooperation, is seen as an attempt to maintain favour with Washington, especially amid its economic dependence on IMF bailouts and lingering FATF-related challenges. 'Pakistan is sending a subtle message—it may be close to China, but it still values its ties with the US,' a diplomatic source said to Hindustan Times, adding that CENTCOM's role remains central to America's post-Afghanistan military strategy in the region.

GHMC to invite tenders for 4-lane roads near AOC Centre

Hyderabad: In a huge respite to lakhs of commuters who face difficulties while traversing through restricted roads in military areas, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation ( GHMC ) has decided to float tenders for constructing alternative roads connecting Wellington Road near Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) area and RK Puram flyover. The development would provide significant relief for lakhs of commuters in Safilguda and Sainikpuri. "The planned construction includes a four-lane road spanning over 6 km, requiring around 42 acres of land. The military authorities in the region committed to transferring the land parcel within a month, while we are identifying suitable alternative land for compensation purposes," a GHMC engineering wing official told TOI. A meeting was held at GHMC headquarters on Saturday with civic chief RV Karnan and defence authorities, led by director, Land Legal, Brigadier SK Chetty, to discuss the transfer of 42.20 acres of defence land at the AOC Centre. The development would serve commuters travelling towards Malkajgiri and Shamirpet, as well as those heading towards Secunderabad. "Approximately five lakh residents utilise these routes for their daily commute. However, it is important to note that these routes should be classified as additional roads rather than alternative ones. Locals have been anticipating these roads for over a decade," Federation of North Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad secretary CS Chandrashekhar said.
