Senior IAS Officer Summoned By Anti-Corruption Bureau In Formula E Race Case
Hyderabad: Special Chief Secretary in Telangana, Arvind Kumar, has been summoned by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on July 1 in connection with the Formula E race case. The ACB is probing into alleged irregularities related to the Formula E Race, which was organised when BRS working president KT Rama Rao was the municipal administration and urban development minister. Arvind Kumar has been named as an accused in the FIR registered by the ACB, alongside former minister KT Rama Rao and retired HMDA engineer BLN Reddy. Mr Kumar had informed the state government earlier that he transferred the funds under the directions of the then minister, KT Rama Rao. Whereas, KTR said he took the decision to conduct the games, but procedural details have to be taken care of by officers. In January, Arvind Kumar was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding allegations of violations in the transfer of funds for conducting the Formula E race in Hyderabad. The agency is investigating whether there were any violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) or if money was laundered through the transfer of funds to Formula E Operations (FEO). The investigator asked about the bypassing of rules and regulations in transferring foreign currency from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) bank accounts. They also questioned why no approval was obtained from the state Cabinet or the Finance department to transfer funds. Arvind Kumar, the then Municipal Administration department special chief secretary, reportedly told the ED that the then Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) minister KT Rama Rao instructed him to make the payment immediately, "as any disruption to the Formula E race would damage the state's brand image." The ED further questioned why RBI guidelines were not followed during the fund transfer and sought clarification on Arvind Kumar's interest in approving the payment from HMDA accounts without a proper agreement with the race organisers.

Tension in Ayyappa Society over Sunnam Cheruvu land survey in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Mild tension prevailed in Ayyappa Society, Madhapur, on Monday after residents living around Sunnam Cheruvu staged a protest against HYDRAA officials alleging that their homes were at risk of demolition. The residents claimed that authorities were conducting a survey with plans to evict them, falsely showing Sunnam Cheruvu's area as 32 acres instead of the actual 15 acres. They alleged discrepancies in land records and said they were being forced to vacate without proper justification. Angered by the survey, locals held a rally, blocked the main road and displayed placards along with plastic bottles filled with petrol. This led to traffic snarls in the area. Protesters claimed that a court stay was already in place, but officials continued to harass them. Some even threatened self-immolation if their demands were ignored. Police rushed to the scene, pacified the crowd and assured them their concerns would be conveyed to higher authorities. 'Baseless protests' Responding to Monday's protest by plot owners, the HYDRAA clarified that the SIET layout falls entirely within the Full Tank Level (FTL) limits of Sunnam Cheruvu, located between Guttala Begumpet and Allapur villages on the Serilingampally–Kukatpally mandal border. HYDRAA noted that even a previous draft layout approved by HMDA was cancelled for this very reason. Similarly, earlier building permits issued by GHMC were also revoked. Given these facts, the agency stated that the protests demanding justice over plot ownership were baseless. Don't obstruct restoration works: Ranganath According to HYDRAA, Sunnam Cheruvu spans 32.60 acres, a figure verified by the Survey of India in 1975. Following high court orders, a fresh joint survey was carried out by HYDRAA, Irrigation, Revenue and GHMC, which reaffirmed the original boundary. Courts have repeatedly ruled that encroachments within lake FTLs must be cleared. HYDRAA confirmed no construction has yet taken place in the layout and advised eligible plot owners to apply for compensation through the government. It also urged residents not to obstruct ongoing lake restoration works.

HMDA mulls land pooling to unlock potential
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is finalising a proposal to implement Land Pooling and Area Development (LPAD) to unlock land potential, deliver planned infrastructure, and promote inclusive urban growth across the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region (HMR). HMDA will engage a consultancy to draft legislation, rules, and guidelines for LPAD and to implement a pilot scheme. Officials said that despite an existing master plan, its execution, especially of arterial and sub-arterial roads, remains inconsistent. This has resulted in landlocked parcels and unregulated development lacking proper road access, utilities and essential public services. In many cases, the authority is forced to provide infrastructure after unplanned construction, an approach seen as inefficient and costly. The present legal framework under the HMDA Act is considered inadequate to support integrated urban development. The proposed LPAD model, based on town planning schemes in Gujarat and Bhubaneswar, allows for equitable land reconstitution, integrated infrastructure provision, and phased release of development plots. HMDA aims to ensure road connectivity across HMR to prevent isolated land parcels. The authority plans to identify at least 10 potential LPAD sites, each measuring about 5,000 acres. The objectives include a review of all existing legislations, rules and guidelines for LPAD/town planning and local area planning in Telangana. After preparing concept reports, two projects will be shortlisted for pre-feasibility studies as part of the pilot initiative.

Realty market rebounds after two-year slump: 13% monthly growth in registrations since Feb 2025, says Telangana IT minister; buyers warned of scams
HYDERABAD: After two years of sluggish growth, Hyderabad's real estate sector is experiencing a strong resurgence, said IT and Industries minister D Sridhar Babu at the Times Home Hunt Property Expo on Saturday. He stated that the market had recorded consistent 13% month-on-month growth in property registrations since February 2025. "The real estate sector registered a 15.4% growth in 2024-25, while the construction sector alone contributed 11.97%, adding nearly 80,000 crore to the state's economy," he said. He also noted that in February 2025, 5,900 property registrations were recorded, with 18% of the registered properties priced above Rs 1 crore. Year-on-year transactional growth stood at 6%. The Times Home Hunt Property Expo featured residential and commercial projects from 35 developers across Hyderabad, showcasing around 100 real estate projects focused on smart homes, gated communities, and wellness-oriented townships. 3,000 visitors on first day The two-day expo, which concludes on Sunday, recorded around 3,000 visitors on its opening day. Overall, the event is expected to attract nearly 5,000 footfalls across both days. Entry is free for all homebuyers at the Hitex Exhibition Center. The event is presented by Aparna Constructions, with powered sponsorship from Ramky Estates, My Home Group, and Candeur Constructions. It is held in association with Auro, SRIAS, R-One, and ASBL, while Union Bank of India serves as the official banking partner. Sridhar Babu cautioned homebuyers to remain vigilant due to a rise in property scams. He urged them to verify RERA, HMDA and other approvals, and to carry out background checks on developers before making investments. He recommended that buyers register properties only through the Build Now portal, an initiative by the state govt to streamline approvals and ensure accountability and transparency in the real estate process.
