
Youth claims trial to raping teenage girlfriend
KOTA KINABALU (July 8): A 19-year-old unemployed youth claimed trial in a Sessions Court here to raping his teenage girlfriend.
Eryidley Jarry, who appeared before judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, was accused of raping the 14-year-old girl inside a car parked at the roadside in Tuaran at 1am on June 25.
The alleged offence was under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.
The court set August 8 to re-mention the case and released Eryidley on RM6,000 bail with two local sureties.
Eryidley, who was unrepresented, was ordered to report to a nearest police station once a month and to surrender his passport, if any, to the court, pending disposal of his case.

In an unrelated case, a company was fined by another Sessions Court here for separate charges of allowing illegal immigrants to remain in premises.
Judge Hurman Hussain fined the company RM15,000 after its representative admitted to give permission for undocumented Indonesians to be at a factory in Ranau on October 24, 2023.
The offence was under Section 55E (1) of the Immigration Act 19563.

On Wednesday, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata in a statement said a retiree in his 60s here had also lost RM200,000 to a fraudulent online investment scheme. Mazuki Tambi, 52, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan after the charge under Section 471 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 468 of the same Code, was read to him. According to the charge, Mazuki allegedly used a forged grant offer letter dated Jan 17, 2024, relating to the publication of a cultural book, with the intention of cheating. The offence was allegedly committed at around 12.18pm at a house on Jalan Cenderawasih, Semariang Baru here on Feb 21, 2024. It was informed that an administrative officer at the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts doubted the authenticity of the grant offer letter submitted by Mazuki, involving an approved amount of RM500,000. A thorough review carried out by the ministry revealed the letter was not genuine. Following a police report lodged, Mazuki was arrested on April 30 this year. The court fixed Aug 12, 2025 for pre-trial case management and allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM2,000 with one local surety. Mazuki was not represented by legal counsel.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan convicted Mohd Norman Abdullah, 35, on his own guilty plea to a charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, framed under Section 325 of the Penal Code. Mohd Norman committed the offence against the victim, 45, at Pangkalan Panjang Waterfront here at around 10pm on July 2, 2025. Based on the facts of the case, the victim was walking to retrieve his motorcycle when he was approached by Mohd Norman, who asked to borrow his phone. The victim, however, declined to hand over the device, claiming it was out of credit. An enraged Mohd Norman reacted by punching the victim in the face, resulting in a fractured nasal bone and injury to the left eye.
