Ishan Kishan stuns with unexpected bowling cameo at County, mimics Harbhajan Singh's action frame-by-frame

Ishan Kishan appears to be relishing his County Championship experience with Nottinghamshire. The India wicketkeeper-batter has made an encouraging start to his red-ball stint in England, registering back-to-back half-centuries in Division 1. Ishan Kishan preparing to bowl in a County match(X) Adding to his contributions, Ishan brought out a new side to his game during a rain-affected, drawn fixture against Somerset at Taunton. On Wednesday, in an unexpected moment, he was handed the ball and took the opportunity to showcase more than just his batting skills. In his solitary over, Kishan delivered a mix of off-spin and leg-spin, delighting teammates and fans alike. He opened his spell by mimicking Harbhajan Singh's signature bowling action, sending down a delivery from over the wicket to Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who was nearing 150 at the time. The imitation was impressively accurate, capturing the essence of the former Indian spinner's style. Watch: Kishan followed it up with a few traditional off-spinners before switching to around the wicket. From there, he channelled Australian legend Shane Warne, attempting leg-spin. His final delivery drifted significantly down the leg side, but the umpire, perhaps enjoying the theatrics, refrained from calling it a wide. As it happened, Kishan's over turned out to be the final one of the match. He concluded his brief bowling spell with tidy figures of 0 for 1 from a single over. A video of the unexpected and light-hearted moment quickly gained traction on social media, with fans widely sharing his entertaining cameo for Nottinghamshire. A classy knock Ishan Kishan continued his impressive County Championship stint with a brisk 77-run knock for Nottinghamshire in their drawn fixture against Somerset. Batting in the middle order, the 26-year-old struck eight boundaries and two sixes in a fluent display, adding vital runs to a massive team total of 509. The innings showed Kishan's growing confidence in English conditions, following up on his debut score of 87 against Yorkshire earlier in the month. Nottinghamshire's reply was anchored by centuries from Ben Slater (124) and Jack Haynes (157), whose steady 163-run stand laid the foundation. Kishan's knock added urgency in the latter stages, helping the hosts stretch their innings across 163.2 overs. Earlier, Somerset had posted 379 in their first innings, buoyed by contributions from Tom Abell and Tom Banton. A second-innings declaration at 238 for 4, led by Tom Kohler-Cadmore's unbeaten 147, meant both sides eventually settled for a draw. Kishan, who hasn't featured in India's Test setup since the West Indies tour in July 2023, appears determined to stay in rhythm during the post-IPL phase. Despite a modest IPL 2025 season with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he scored 354 runs in 14 games, his recent red-ball outings in England have been far more compelling. With a packed international calendar ahead, Kishan's timely form could keep him in the conversation for a potential India recall.

Kathai Karnival : An ongoing book fair at Prozone Mall brings together literature, creativity and community spirit

The concept is simple — gather your favourite books, and instead of paying per individual book, pay by their weight. Over thousands of books are up for grabs, from classics and hardbound collections to children's books and fiction. While children pick up sound books, board books, the encyclopedia, touch & feel books, and educational books, they can also take part in live storytelling sessions. Called Kathai Karnival, the ongoing book fair at Prozone Mall brings together literature, creativity and community spirit, and aims to introduce children to the joys of reading. Besides sessions on creativity, there will also be a meet-and-greet event with their beloved characters from the story books. 'This is a celebration of reading in its most joyful form,' say S Bringston Nathan, who heads marketing of Prozone Mall and is part of the organising team. 'We want children to fall in love with stories — not just on the page, but through performance, play, and imagination.' The book fair is also a 'Weigh Lit Fest' where bibliophiles can buy one kilogram of books for ₹549 and three kilograms at ₹1300. The aim is to make the purchase of books economical for all those who love to read. 'We want children to leave their digital gadgets, and physically touch and feel the books. In the last three years, the event has reached out to thousands of school students from across the city. This year, more than 2000 students have enrolled for events at Kathai Karnival.' Books ranging from non-fiction, fiction, reference books, dictionaries, English, and Tamil languages, picture and children's books are neatly organised and kept on tables. 'The festival is tailored to delight young readers and families alike. A space where stories are not only read but also heard, shared, and experienced,' says Nathan adding that a festive atmosphere, candid reader interactions, and storytelling corners, add to the buzz. There are small-format fiction books like that of Dan Brown and popular ones of Tom King, Jeffery Archer and Agatha Christie. At the fair, the books are not organised by title or author. There is an element of surprise and this can be exciting for any book buyer. The book fair is on till July 6 at Main Atrium, Prozone Mall. Entry free.

James Corden reveals Rihanna was responsible for getting him on board "The Smurfs'

Mumbai: Popular American television host and actor James Corden revealed that it was Rihanna, who was responsible for getting him on board "The Smurfs" movie. Corden said that he received a surprise message from Rihanna. "I got a voice note from Rihanna on my phone, which had never happened to me before or since. She said, would you come and be in this Smurf movie? Would I? I was so blown away. And that is the whole story of how I came to play No Name," he remembered. Corden has lent his voice to Smurfette's closest friend and emotional anchor - No Name - who was described as the heart and soul of the story by director Chris Miller. Talking about his character, Corder stated, 'In the Smurf world, he is completely lost. For him, the film is about his quest to discover his purpose. Smurfette is his ally and confidante, the person who tells him that he is going to be okay. She gives him some tough love at points. And she's also a brilliant singer, because…it's Rihanna.' Sharing what it was like singing alongside Rihanna, the television host called it "a no small task". 'When I was in the studio with Rihanna and her producers, it was hard not to feel like somebody made a huge mistake,' Corden added jokingly. Corder further shared his excitement about being a part of the pop culture's most iconic franchises. 'I reckon wherever you are in the world, you could show a picture of a Smurf to people and more than half of them would recognize it. It's a phenomenon that has lasted an incredibly long time and retained its relevance. I'm very honored to be part of it," he reflected. Meanwhile, speaking about donning multiple hats in "The Smurfs" Rihanna added, "It was invigorating and exciting for me to not only embody a character but also bring my musical life into the mix. We worked with music producers and choreographers whose work I admire. To put those two worlds together was a win-win for everyone. It pushed us all to challenge our artistry". "The Smurfs" will be released in India by Paramount Pictures India on 18th July in both English and Hindi.
