How many times has LSU won the College World Series?
There is perhaps not a more storied and decorated college baseball program in the country than LSU.
The sixth-ranked Tigers have an opportunity to add to that history over the next few days at Charles Schwab Field as LSU opens up the best-of-three College World Series championship series on June 21 against No. 13 Coastal Carolina.
LSU enters championship week in Omaha coming off a thrilling come-from-behind victory against No. 3 Arkansas in the CWS semifinals on June 18. Trailing by two runs heading into the bottom of the ninth, LSU plated three runs in the inning, all of which came on Arkansas fielding mistakes. Jared Jones was the hero for the Tigers with the walk-off single into center.

A series win for LSU would bring a second national championship in the last three years to its trophy case in Baton Rouge.
Here's what to know about LSU's history in the CWS championship series, and more:
How many times has LSU won the College World Series?
LSU has won the College World Series seven times in its rich history.
The Tigers first dogpiled in Omaha in 1991 when they defeated Wichita State 6-3. LSU would then win three national titles in a span of five years from 1993 through 1997, a time period that helped build LSU into an SEC and national powerhouse.
Then-LSU manager Skip Bertman led the Tigers to their fifth championship in 2000, making him one of just three head coaches to win five NCAA baseball titles. The Tigers' sixth national title came under Paul Mainieri in 2009, when LSU defeated Texas two games to one.
When did LSU last win the College World Series?
LSU last won the College World Series in 2023, when it took two of three games against No. 2 Florida.
The Tigers, a No. 5 seed that season, took Game 1 against the Gators by a score of 4-3. Florida bounced back in Game 2 and crushed LSU, 24-4. Wyatt Langford and Jac Caglianone were unstoppable for the Gators, a combined 7-for-11 at the plate with 11 RBIs, seven runs scored and three home runs.
But LSU won the winner-take-all Game 3 against Florida by another lopsided score of 18-4. After falling into a 2-0 deficit after the first inning, LSU plated 10 runs across the second and fourth innings to take a 10-2 lead and never looked back. Brayden Jobert led LSU with three runs — including a home run — and three RBIs. Dylan Crews and Tre' Morgan each scored three runs. LSU recorded 24 total hits compared to Florida's five.
"We got punched in the mouth yesterday," Crews said after winning the national championship. "That's the beauty of baseball. You wake up in the morning and do it all over again. We woke up today and you could see on everybody's faces that we were ready to go. Nobody in the country was going to beat us today."
To make the CWS finals in 2023, LSU went 3-1 in winners' bracket play, with that lone loss coming in the first CWS semifinal vs. Wake Forest. The Tigers, who needed just a win to advance to the finals, bounced back in the "if necessary" CWS semifinal game vs. the top seeded Demon Deacons, 2-0, behind a masterful eight-inning outing from Paul Skenes and a two-run, walk-off home run from Tommy White.

Tigers slugger's injury forces early exit, leaving status in doubt
Tigers slugger's injury forces early exit, leaving status in doubt originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Tigers right fielder Kerry Carpenter is heading for the MRI tube on Monday morning. He was forced to exit Sunday's game due to a hamstring injury. After hitting an RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth inning, Carpenter grimaced in pain while rounding the bases and quickly left the game. Advertisement 'I'll get an MRI tomorrow,' Carpenter told reporters after the Tigers' Sunday night win over the Twins. 'The staff here has done a great job of getting me back pretty quickly, so we'll see how it goes. But I think we're all pretty optimistic about it.' While the injury is concerning, Carpenter's optimistic outlook offers some hope for a quick recovery. Before the injury, Carpenter had been on a tear, continuing his strong recent performance. He gave the Tigers an early lead with a solo home run to right-center field, his second consecutive game with a homer and his third in the past five games. Advertisement As of June 29, he holds a .252 batting average with 16 home runs and 32 RBIs. His .515 slugging percentage and .341 expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA) highlight his ability to drive the ball effectively. Statcast data further underscores his offensive prowess, with an average exit velocity of 91 mph, a hard-hit rate of 45.3%, and a barrel percentage of 13.3%. If Carpenter has to miss time, the Tigers are likely to turn to Wenceel Perez in right field. For now, the team remains hopeful that the MRI results will show no serious damage, and Carpenter can return to the lineup sooner rather than later. Bucs Rumor Suggests New Contract for All-Pro Antoine Winfield
Bucs Rumor Suggests New Contract for All-Pro Antoine Winfield originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Despite quarterback and head coach changes over the last few years, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have maintained their status as a playoff contender. Advertisement Their young talent on both sides of the field is a big reason for that. One of their brightest stars is safety Antoine Winfield Jr. The former All-Pro has built a reputation as one of the best safeties in the game today. Winfield may be coming off a down season, but he wants to bounce back significantly. Tampa Bay needs to be careful with Winfield, though. The Minnesota product is 26 years old and under team control for the next two seasons. But... ESPN has called the numbers behind those final two years one of the most "player-friendly" for a safety in the league. "Winfield is the league's second-highest paid safety by average annual salary, just slightly behind [Kerby] Joseph. But the rest of the deal is great for Winfield in comparison," Dan Graziano wrote. "Winfield got a $20 million roster bonus in 2024 and fully guaranteed salaries of $4 million in 2024 and $21 million in 2025. Advertisement "He's sure to make $45 million over the first two years of the deal and would make $64.5 million over the first three if he stays in Tampa Bay. It's strong money, given the rest of the safety market." Let's call this a rumor for now. But … Tampa Bay will likely seek to restructure Winfield's contract following the 2025 season. His $27 million cap hit, scheduled for both 2026 and 2027, will make the situation difficult. If they can get the kind of All-Pro play they used to get earlier in his career, the cap hits won't be a hindrance. Anything less, though and the Buccaneers will be stuck between a rock and a hard place with Winfield. Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield Gets 'Top 10' Endorsement
Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield Gets 'Top 10' Endorsement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When talking about some of the greatest career resurgences in NFL history, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and his story might be in the conversation. Advertisement From being on the scrap heap a couple of years ago, Baker landed in Tampa Bay and has never looked back. Division titles, a playoff win, and multiple Pro Bowls in two seasons have improved Mayfield's stature in the league. And now he might have gotten the best endorsement yet. Hall of Famer and Buccaneers legend Ronde Barber, when speaking on The Ronde Barber Show, gave Baker his flowers for what he's done in Tampa since arriving. "The leadership qualities just jump out at you," Barber said. "The dude makes tough plays in tough situations. He elevates the entire team. Baker's a top 10 quarterback for me, man. I don't see how anybody can say otherwise.' Advertisement 'He's had a new coordinator every single year of his career, including this year. And I don't know that it matters. The guy just elevates his game to whatever level he needs it to be at.' Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield© Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images It's hard to argue with any of that based on the last two seasons, with Mayfield elevating himself into the upper echelon of quarterbacks in football. Last season, a career-best season yielded 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdowns while having a completion percentage of 71.4. Yes, the 16 interceptions are a blight, but other than that, Baker has been rolling. Now, looking ahead to the 2025 season, the Buccaneers are considered NFC dark horses, with some thinking that, given the talent at Baker's disposal, a Super Bowl run isn't out of the realm of possibility for this team. Advertisement Yes, that is some high praise, but this Buccaneers team, led by Mayfield, deserves to be mentioned as one of the better teams in football.
