Cambridge Schools Introduce Career Readiness Programs, Redefining Summer Learning

New Delhi [India], June 28: In yet another endeavour to provide industry exposure to their students and help them learn beyond textbooks, the Cambridge Schools in Delhi-NCR recently organised an extensive summer internship programme for students of Classes 11 and 12. Close to a hundred students participated in the programme that ran through the month of June.
"Cambridge School is one of the few schools in the NCR to be running such an extensive internship programme wherein the students get hands-on, practical training in the fields of their interest. It is meant to enable our students to get a deeper understanding of their aspirations and strengths so that they can be sure of the career choices they make in the future", said Shalabh Sharma, Principal, Cambridge School, Greater Noida.
The initiative was run in collaboration with nine organisations from across sectors. They were namely Aspiration Jobs (job coaching), Legis Law Chamber (litigation), HAQ: Centre for Child Rights (human rights), Goonj (social work), V Spark Communications (public relations and marketing), Grewal and Singh Chartered Accountants (accountancy), Mindler (career counselling), Mindlogs Psychological Services (psychology), and Arts Room Cafe (kitchen and restaurant operations).
Talking about partnering with Cambridge Schools for this programme, Dr GS Grewal, Author and Director at Grewal and Singh Chartered Accountants, said, 'We are pleased to partner with Cambridge Schools for summer training of students. The major outcomes of this training for the students were exposure to real-life situations, valuing time and widening thinking. It also aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 that emphasises the development of practical skills in students.'
The students, depending on the nature of the work of the respective organisation, explored diverse roles such as research, writing, psychotherapy, digital marketing, social work, customer and client servicing, etc. Most of these were taken up on-site, while a few were online/hybrid. Shravani Singh, a Class 11 student of Cambridge School, Indirapuram, spoke about her experience of interning at Legis Law Chamber - 'It was an eye-opening experience that brought my studies to life. It was fascinating to see how the theory we learn in class is applied in real-world scenarios. We also met some dignitaries and got to learn from their experiences. I am thankful for the chance to work at the law chamber and attend court sessions'.
This engagement is a part of the year-long college and career counselling programme run by the Cambridge Schools in their four campuses - Srinivaspuri, Noida, Indirapuram, and Greater Noida. By and large, the programme includes one-to-one and group counselling sessions, interactions with universities, and industry visits. It is rooted in the schools' vision to empower their students to be able to make their best-fit career decisions.

This year the university is entering the fourth year of the programme receiving a "positive response" from students so far. "Though final enrolment figures are awaited, deans have informed us that a significant number of students are inclined to continue into the fourth year," she said. She admitted that despite the enthusiasm, infrastructure and space remains a concern. "Yes, we face space and resource constraints, but are actively responding. A new building in Karampura with 18 classrooms and two seminar halls has been completed to accommodate this year's students. We are hopeful for timely funding support from the government," she said. The vice chancellor underlined that AUD's educational model is grounded in Dr Ambedkar's vision of equity and social justice. "Our focus has always been on inclusion, equity, social justice and gender balance. These are not just words but they are reflected in our programmes and pedagogy," she said. She further highlighted AUD's fee waiver policy, saying that SC, ST, and PwD students receive full fee exemptions from the time of admission a practice not common in other institutions. "We also have a tiered fee-waiver structure based on need for other students. Nearly 58 per cent of our students benefit from financial support and around 42 per cent of our total budget is allocated to student welfare," she added. On the contentious issue of student politics, Lather advocated for democratic engagement within academic norms. "Universities must nurture free thinking. We respect all viewpoints, but any anti-social or anti-national activity has no place on campus," she said. While some campuses in Delhi have seen disruptive student protests and politically charged clashes, AUD has opted for a more structured form of engagement. She noted that AUD follows the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations strictly and elects student representatives democratically, who participate in the university council. "Students engage with the administration constructively and directly," she said. Highlighting strides in research, the vice chancellor said, "When I joined in 2019, our H-index was zero. Today, it stands at 28 on Scopus. We fund students to present papers abroad, offer generous non-National Eligibility Test fellowships, and organise a Research Recognition Day to honour faculty." Approval delay forces postponement of Ambedkar Law School building ceremony
Nagpur: The ground-breaking ceremony for the new state-of-the-art building of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar School of Law, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed due to pending administrative approval from the state government. Nagpur University (NU) had planned a grand ceremony to be attended by the Chief Justice of India (CJI), who was also to inaugurate the country's first Constitution Preamble Park and unveil a life-size statue of Dr BR Ambedkar on the campus. School of Law director Ravishankar Mor told TOI that the Rs250-crore proposal has cleared two levels of scrutiny and is now with the state's ministry of higher and technical education. "The project is on fast track. The design and technical hurdles have been cleared. Once the finance department gives its nod, we will proceed with laying the foundation stone," he said, adding that the approval is expected shortly. The project is part of the institution's centenary-year transformation. Formerly known as Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Law College, the institute has a rich legacy, having produced two Chief Justices of India, a Prime Minister, and several Supreme Court and High Court judges, besides eminent lawyers. In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the NU recently merged its postgraduate law department with the college to form the School of Law, which now offers education from undergraduate to PhD level under one roof. The new five-storeyed academic block will come up on open land behind the existing college building. Designed to mirror landmark structures like the RBI, High Court and GPO, the building will house two large auditoriums and curved, tech-enabled classrooms. A three-level basement parking facility for up to 5,000 vehicles is also part of the ambitious plan.
