We hit 61 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now

USA Today4 days ago
We've reached 61 days until the Raiders season opener at Foxboro against the Patriots, With our countdown at 61 days we take a look at who currently dons the number in Silver & Black and who has brought it the most distinction.
No. 61
Who's wearing it now: G/C Jordan Meredith
Meredith first joined the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Western Kentucky. He now enters his fourth year with the team having appeared in 32 games with nine starts. Eight of those starts came last season as he took over the right guard spot for the team. This offseason, he has been lining up as the second team center behind starter Jackson Powers-Johnson. He has shown he can play a decent bit of guard, so he is being given the chance to be a reserve interior center/guard.
Who wore it best: C Rodney Hudson
On a franchise with a long line of great centers, Hudson fits right in. The Raiders signed him away from the rival Chiefs just as he entered his prime. He spent six seasons with the Raiders, making three Pro Bowls. He was traded to the Cardinals at the age of 32 and played his final two seasons in Arizona, with an injury shortening his final season and hastening his decision to retire at the age of 34.

Robert Griffin III Flamed By MLK's Daughter For Doubling Down On Angel Reese Hating Caitlin Clark

Robert Griffin III has once again let his tweets concerning Angel Reese lead to a proper online roasting. This week was supposed to be a celebratory moment for Reese, who was named the NBA 2K26 WNBA cover athlete alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Carmelo Anthony, but instead, she was criticized for getting the honor. Mixed in with the jokes were some truly hateful comments, including a racist one that depicted Reese as a monkey on the cover. The former quarterback immediately came to her defense, denouncing the imagery in a lengthy retweet that began, 'Alright. This has got to stop. There is no place for racism in this world. Whether you like a player or not. Angel Reese should never be called or depicted as a Monkey.' But soon he reinserts himself into the issue, saying he stopped talking about Reese because she 'shared a video that aided in my wife, kids, family and friends receiving death threats, threats of physical harm to my family and friends and threats of sexual violence to my children on social media and beyond.' He continues on to double down on his claim from weeks ago that Reese and Caitlin Clark don't get along, and he's got the sources to prove it. 'People in Angel's inner circle called me and told me I was right and Angel Reese has grown to hate Caitlin Clark because of the media always asking her about Caitlin and being constantly compared to her,' he continues. He ends the message by saying that his critique of either of the players or their rivalry is not based on race and condemns the monkey in a uniform photo. 'If you hate Angel Reese because she is Black, you are the problem,' he writes. 'If you hate Angel Reese because you are a Caitlin Clark fan, don't turn it racial.' Griffin's anger over the racist depiction was worthy, but bringing up the Clark hate was misplaced, so Reese seemingly replied by calling him a liar over his insider information. 'Lying on this app when everybody know the first and last name of everybody in my circle for clout is nastyyyy work,' she tweeted. Even Martin Luther King Jr.'s daughter, Bernice, thinks Griffin III needs to stop the negative remarks Reese makes and speak to her one-on-one. RG3's last issue with Reese came in May when Clark had committed a take foul against her, which led to endless theories about their icy relationship. Griffin immediately took Clark's side, tweeting in part, 'there's no way Angel Reese can continue the lie that she doesn't dislike Caitlin Clark. I know what hatred looks like. Angel Reese HATES Caitlin Clark. Not some basketball rivalry hate either. Hate.' See social media's reaction to the ongoing criticism between RG3 and the Clark-Reese rivalry. Thomas Bryant, James Johnson Jr. look like Pacers' odd men out after Isaiah Jackson signing

INDIANAPOLIS – For the moment at least, center and former IU star Thomas Bryant and veteran forward James Johnson Jr. appear to be the odd men out in the Indiana Pacers' roster re-shuffle following Tyrese Haliburton's Achilles tendon tear and Myles Turner's departure to the Bucks. The Pacers now have four centers under contract — apparently trying to combat the loss of Turner with numbers — but Bryant isn't one of them. And they have 15 players on standard contracts, but Johnson doesn't have one of those either. Indiana acquired Jay Huff from the Grizzlies for a 2029 second-round pick and a 2031 pick swap. They also re-signed restricted free agent center Isaiah Jackson to a three-year, $21 million contract and signed free agent center James Wiseman to a two-year contract. Jackson and Wiseman were the Pacers' backup centers behind Turner to start the 2024-25 season but each tore an Achilles tendon within the season's first 10 days. Also, the Pacers picked up the club option on Tony Bradley's contract. He was signed to a pair of 10-day contracts in March before the Pacers signed him for the rest of the season and included the option in the deal. The Pacers can waive him with no penalty or trade him to open up a roster spot, but at the moment he is taking up one of the 15 spots. Bryant was acquired by the Pacers in a trade with the Heat on Dec. 15 — the first day possible because Bryant had signed a free agent deal with the Heat in the offseason — to give the Pacers depth behind Turner after Jackson and Wiseman were injured. Bryant averaged 6.9 points and 3.9 rebounds in 56 games, starting eight. He averaged 16.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per 36 minutes. He also hit a career-high 42 3-pointers in his time with the Pacers. He saw a minutes cut in the playoffs, but hit 9-of-18 3-pointers in the playoffs. The 38-year-old Johnson has been with the Pacers for each of the past three seasons. He appeared in just 39 games and averaged 1.7 points per game, but his 16 seasons in the NBA provided him veteran gravitas that made him one of the Pacers' emotional leaders. It also didn't hurt that he's been named the man players least want to get in a fight with in an anonymous poll run by The Athletic in each of the past three years, as Johnson has a second-degree black belt in Karate and had an undefeated record as a kickboxer. Teams are allowed to have 21 players — meaning three beyond the 15 players on standard contracts and three on two-way deals — at training camp. With a Bradley waiver still an option, it's not out of the question the Pacers could still bring Bryant or Johnson to camp. It's also not out of the question circumstances could lead the Pacers to sign one of them later in the year as they brought Johnson back in December of 2023 after he started the 2023-24 season as not part of the roster. But as things stand, neither has an open chair on the roster to sit in.

2025 Arizona Cardinals training camp roster preview: CB Will Johnson

We will preview every player on the Cardinals roster leading up to training camp. This is about CB Will Johnson. The Arizona Cardinals report to training camp on July 22 and begin the process of preparing for the regular season, forming the roster and determining starting jobs and roles on the team. Leading up to the start of camp, we will take a look at every player on the offseason roster, their background, their contract, their play in 2024, questions they face and their roster outlook. Next up is cornerback Will Johnson. Will Johnson background, 2024 season Considered a first-round talent, Johnson slid to the second round (47th overall) because of a toe injury that limited him to six games at Michigan last season and a previous knee injury that apparently scared some teams off after remnants showed up during his Combine physical that questioned his long-term prospects. In his final two seasons with the Wolverines, Johnson had six interceptions, three of which he returned for touchdowns. Will Johnson 2025 contract details, cap hit Johnson is one of 30 NFL second-round picks that remained unsigned as of July 10. When he does sign, the total value will likely land around $9 million with at least the first two years of salaries guaranteed and a portion of the third-year salary. 2025 questions, roster outlook Crucial for Johnson's immediate prospects is not missing too much of training camp if the logjam of unsigned players around the league continues. On talent alone, and if healthy, Johnson should compete for significant time on the field even with the competition there will be from Star Thomas V, Max Melton and stalwart Garrett Williams.
