CRISPR Therapeutics Stock Upgrade Following Analyst Reassessment
Citing pipeline advancements and possible catalysts, Evercore ISI analyst Liisa Bayko raised CRISpen Therapeutics from "In Line" to "Outperform." The company focused on the CTX320 and CTX310 in vivo gene editing initiatives, giving respectively 10% and 5% success rates. Second quarter of 2025 data from CTX320 is anticipated to line up with Novartis's cardiovascular outcomes study. Mid-2025 should provide updates on CTX112 (CAR-T treatment), CTX131 (oncology), and CTX221 (type 1 diabetes).

From $1.7 billion at the end of 2023, the corporation said in December 31, 2024, $1.9 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities. Compared with 40 at the end of October, the Casgevy cell collection program also grew with over 50 fresh collections in the last nine weeks of the fourth quarter.
Although the firm's risk-adjusted model puts in low success probability for its new in vivo activities, its financial situation and clinical advancements indicate a better picture.

Gold flat as easing trade tensions offset support from weak dollar
Gold prices held steady on Thursday after a sharp drop in the previous session, as easing trade tensions dented demand for safe-haven assets, overshadowing support from a weaker dollar. Spot gold was flat at $3,387.15 per ounce, as of 0138 GMT, after dropping 1.3% in the previous session. U.S. gold futures eased 0.1% to $3,492.50. "Yesterday, we saw gold prices seems like well might be building up for the next bullish run until the news came out on trade front, triggering some profit-taking," said Brian Lan, managing director at GoldSilver Central, Singapore. "We've seen the dollar has also weakened quite a bit, and of course, this also supports gold. So, I think this is a small retracement at this moment. We are, in fact, still quite bullish on gold." Signaling progress on tariffs, U.S. President Donald Trump struck a trade deal with Japan that lowers tariffs on auto imports. The European Union and the United States are nearing an agreement on a similar trade deal that would impose 15% tariffs on European imports, while waiving duties on some items, according to officials from the European Commission. Risk sentiment in the wider financial markets rose on the back of progress in trade talks and hopes that more deals could be in the offering. Offering support to gold, the U.S. dollar index fell to a more than two-week low, making greenback-priced bullion less expensive for other currency holders. Investors also look forward to a rate decision from the European Central Bank due later in the day. Also on the radar, the U.S. weekly jobless claims numbers on Thursday and S&P Global's flash PMI data will be eyed to gauge economic health ahead of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision next week. Spot silver slipped 0.3% to $39.16 per ounce, platinum was steady at $1,411.53 and palladium dipped 1% to $1,265.50.

Oil prices climb on U.S. trade optimism, drop in crude stockpiles
Oil prices rose on Thursday, buoyed by optimism over U.S. trade negotiations that would ease pressure on the global economy and a sharper-than-expected decline in U.S. crude inventories. Brent crude futures LCOc1 gained 24 cents, or 0.4%, to $68.75 a barrel by 0032 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures climbed 25 cents, or 0.4%, to $65.50 per barrel. Both benchmarks were little changed on Wednesday as markets monitored developments in U.S.-European Union trade talks, following President Donald Trump's tariff deal with Japan. The agreement lowers duties on auto imports and spares Tokyo from new levies in exchange for a $550 billion package of U.S.-bound investment and loans. "Buying was driven by optimism that progress in tariff negotiations with the U.S. would help avoid a worst-case scenario," said Hiroyuki Kikukawa, chief strategist of Nissan Securities Investment, a unit of Nissan Securities. "Still, uncertainty over U.S.-China trade talks and peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia is limiting further gains," he added, predicting WTI will likely remain range-bound between $60 and $70. Two European diplomats said on Wednesday that the EU and the U.S. are moving toward a trade deal that could include a 15% U.S. baseline tariff on EU goods and possible exemptions, potentially paving the way for another major trade agreement following the Japan deal. On the supply side, U.S. Energy Information Administration data showed U.S. crude inventories fell last week by 3.2 million barrels to 419 million barrels, exceeding analysts' expectations in a Reuters poll for a 1.6 million-barrel draw. Geopolitical tensions remained in focus. Russia and Ukraine held peace talks in Istanbul on Wednesday, discussing further prisoner swaps, though the two sides remain far apart on ceasefire terms and a possible meeting of their leaders. Separately, foreign oil tankers were temporarily barred from loading at Russia's main Black Sea ports due to new regulations, two industry sources said on Wednesday, effectively halting exports from Kazakhstan through a consortium partly owned by U.S. energy majors. The U.S. energy secretary said on Tuesday that the U.S. would consider sanctioning Russian oil to end the war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, the EU on Friday agreed its 18th sanctions package against Russia, lowering the price cap for Russian crude.
