UGC showcause notices to IIT-Hyderabad, NIPER, five others
Other institutions served notices include Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (Basara), Aurora Higher Education Research Academy, Malla Reddy Vishwavidyapeeth, MNR University and Telugu University. Nationwide, 89 universities have been issued notices, including IIM Rohtak, IIM Bangalore, IIM Tiruchirappalli, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), the National Institute of Design and IIT Mumbai.
According to the UGC, all institutions have been directed to comply with anti-ragging regulations and collect online undertakings from students within 30 days. They are also required to submit a detailed report on preventive measures implemented on campus.
The UGC has warned of stringent action, including de-recognition or withdrawal of affiliation, for failure to comply with the Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009.

State govt giving top priority to protection of children: CM
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy emphasised that all kinds of legal protection should be provided to child victims from sexual harassment. Addressing the State Level Meet -2025 on POCSO here on Saturday, the CM said that the government has already launched the 'Bharosa' project for the protection of girls and 29 centres which are already functioning in the State. The centres are providing legal and medical aid, and counseling through police to the victims. Stating that Telangana became the first State to launch child-friendly courts through the Hyderabad-based Bharosa Centre in the country, the Chief Minister said that the centres are not only resolving cases expeditiously but also taking necessary steps for complete protection and instill confidence among children for their development. Highlighting the importance of the strict implementation of the POCSO Act and Juvenile Act, CM Revanth Reddy, however, added, 'we are facing some hurdles in the enforcement of the Acts. These Acts are completely helpful in protecting the future of the victims without causing any harm.' The CM underscored the perpetrators should be dealt with strictly without showing any mercy towards those who abuse children through social media. Apart from the courts, the Chief Minister asserted that the State government is ready to take necessary steps to the strict enforcement of the child protection Acts with an aim to deliver justice at every stage. Children should get justice through all processes including police stations and child welfare centers. CM Revanth Reddy appealed to judges, police, child welfare committees and other partners to join hands with the government and strive for the protection of child rights. 'Justice means it is not just about awarding punishment but also protect the victim and giving a hope of a decent life' , the CM said that measures should also be taken ensuring child protection, due respect to them in society and lead a happy childhood life.

Naveen Patnaik, P Venkataraman NEW DELHI: BJD president and former Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik has urged the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene in the suspected abduction of a 28-year-old Indian worker from Ganjam, Odisha. The man, P. Venkatramana, went missing in Mali after an armed attack on the cement factory where he was employed. His family has filed a police complaint and is awaiting updates. In a post on X, the BJD chief wrote: 'Concerned to know that Panad Venkat Raman of Hinjilicut block of Ganjam district has been kidnapped by extremists in the African country Mali. He has remained incommunicado since then, leaving his family in deep agony. His family, originally from Andhra Pradesh but now living in Samarajhol village under Hinjilicut block in Odisha, approached local police on Thursday. His mother, P Narasamma, filed a complaint at the Hinjili police station. Narasamma told the police that company officials had first informed her that her son was in police custody. Later, she saw online reports saying he may have been kidnapped by militants. The Diamond Cement Factory is owned by the Hyderabad-based Prasaditya Group. Senior officials from the company have travelled to Mali and are working with law enforcement there. Security agencies suspect that the militants involved may be linked to Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), a known al-Qaeda affiliate active in the region. So far, no group has claimed responsibility, and no demands have been made.

HYDERABAD: Four days have passed since the abduction of three Indian nationals in Mali, West Africa, by an Al-Qaeda-linked terror group. The family of Kurakula Amaralingeswara Rao, a resident of Miryalaguda in Telangana, is consumed by anxiety and fear, praying for his safe return. Rao was one of the three Indians kidnapped on July 1 during an armed assault on the Diamond Cement Factory in Kayes, western Mali. The attack was claimed by Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), a group affiliated with Al-Qaeda. Of the three abducted, two are Telugu-speaking.
