Delhi sets target of filling 3,400 potholes in a day

India Today24-06-2025
In order to enhance road safety and improve commuting conditions, the Delhi government will undertake a massive one-day operation to fill 3,400 potholes across the capital's roads on June 24. The campaign, led by the Public Works Department (PWD), marks a significant step towards making Delhi's roads pothole-free ahead of the monsoon season.PWD Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh announced that the department has been working for the past four months on identifying and repairing damaged stretches of road. With the monsoon expected to arrive soon, the government has expedited efforts, declaring June 24 as a milestone date for delivering on its promise.advertisement'This is not just a repair drive, it is a commitment to the people of Delhi,' said the minister. "When work is done honestly and according to standards, potholes won't return. This is our resolution.'
The initiative will cover over 1,400 km of PWD-managed roads, including key arterial roads, inner lanes, and high-risk zones. The potholes to be repaired have been identified through citizen complaints, drone mapping, and extensive field surveys. To execute the campaign, the department has mobilised over 200 maintenance vans equipped with modern repair tools and high-quality materials. More than 1,000 workers, engineers, and supervisors, including 70 Assistant Engineers (AEs) and 150 Junior Engineers (JEs) will be deployed across designated zones for maximum efficiency.Transparency and accountability are key to this operation. Every repair will be documented with geotagged, time-stamped photos taken before and after the work. A zonal AE and a senior engineer have been assigned to each area and will be held accountable for outcomes. The minister will personally oversee real-time operations on the ground, while local MLAs will monitor progress and interact directly with the public.advertisement"I tell engineers, supervisors and labourers that this is not just about work, it is about service. Filling potholes is not just about pouring bitumen, it is about providing relief to the citizens who pass through these roads every day. When the system is accountable, the work is sustainable,' said PWD minister Pravesh Verma. 'We know where each of those 3,400 potholes are. They will be tracked, filled in, and recorded. This has never been done before in India,' he added. - EndsTune InMust Watch

UP min reviewsPlantation 2025 preps

Lucknow: Minister of state for environment, forest and climate change (independent charge) Arun Kumar Saxena on Wednesday reviewed the preparation for Plantation-2025 and provided guidelines for the successful planting of 35 crore trees. The minister suggested that 1% of the legislative area development fund should be used by public representatives for thematic tree planting along roadsides using tree guards. He also emphasised promoting agroforestry by encouraging plantation on the boundaries of agricultural fields. Large-scale plantation is being done on forest land, community land, other govt land, agricultural and private land with the cooperation of 26 govt departments and the general public. As a result of extensive plantation done in the years so far, the state's forest and tree cover increased by approximately 1.38 acres according to the ISFR report 2023 released by the Forest Survey of India, Dehradun, last year, which is the second-highest increase in India. Ministers from other departments also participated in the review meeting. PWD state minister Brijesh Singh said that tree protection ensures water security and also proposed establishing 'Sindoor Van' in the state.

Inquiry report on 11-month delay in work order for new Kund Mala bridge in 2 weeks

Pune: State govt had ordered an inquiry into the delay in issuing a work order for a new bridge over the Indrayani river at Kund Mala in Pune district despite funds being approved 11 months ago, public works department minister Shivendraraje Bhosale told both houses of the legislature on Tuesday. Bhosale said that a three-member committee led by a secretary-rank officer would submit the inquiry report within two weeks, and based on that, govt would act against the officials found responsible for the delay. State in July last year approved Rs8 crore for the construction of the new bridge, parallel to the existing iron bridge, but the work order was issued on June 10, 2025. Five days later, the 30-year-old bridge collapsed, killing four people and injuring more than 50. Bhosale said several reasons, including the enforcement of the model code of conduct for the assembly elections and the demand from local representatives to make footpaths on both sides of the proposed bridge, also contributed to the delay. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "There was a delay, and we accept it; hence, action will be taken against those responsible." The issue was discussed in the assembly and council after the legislators, including those from ruling parties, demanded that an FIR first be registered under sections for culpable homicide. Later, govt may add names based on the inquiry report, the legislators said. The minister, however, said, "The inquiry report will come in two weeks, and the strictest possible action will be immediately initiated against those found responsible for the delay. But it would be wrong to take action before receiving the report." Though the old bridge was constructed by the PWD, it was under the maintenance of the Pune district administration when it collapsed, Bhosale said. Last month, state BJP president Ravindra Chavan, who was the PWD minister in 2024 when the Eknath Shinde-led govt approved funds for the bridge, said that there was a need for an inquiry to investigate reasons for the delay in work order. Chavan said that the tendering process was completed much before the assembly elections were announced and the project was supposed to be completed within a year.

PWD gets full-time secretary after CM cracks whip over ROB flaw

Bhopal: The state govt has appointed a full-time principal secretary to the Public Works Department (PWD) after six months, reinstating senior bureaucrat Sukh Veer Singh days after CM Mohan Yadav ordered disciplinary action in the wake of serious design flaws in the Aishbagh railway overbridge (ROB) project in Bhopal. The public works department has seen four officers in the past year and a half. When the incumbent state govt was formed, Sukh Veer Singh was the principal secretary, PWD. DP Ahuja was placed as PS, PWD, and Singh was transferred. Later, additional chief secretary KC Gupta headed the department, but in Dec, the PWD dept's additional charge was given to additional chief secretary Neeraj Mandloi. After CM Mohan Yadav on Saturday took action against the faulty design of the Aishbagh ROB incident in Bhopal, the govt posted a full-time PS to the department and brought back Sukh Veer Singh, known as a strict officer in MP, back to the PWD department. The CM wrote on social media, "Serious negligence was observed in the construction of the Aishbagh ROB, and I ordered an investigation into the matter. Based on the investigation report, action was taken against eight engineers from the PWD. Seven engineers, including two CEs, were suspended with immediate effect. A departmental inquiry will be conducted against one retired SE." Due to the submission of a faulty design for the ROB in this project, both the construction agency and the design consultant have been blacklisted. A committee has been formed to address the necessary improvements in the ROB. The ROB will be inaugurated only after the improvements are made," the CM wrote.
