Holiday home trashed after gender reveal turns into drunken rampage
The owner of a holiday let has told of his horror after a booking for a 'gender reveal' turned into a huge house party with 200 drunken revellers which had to be broken up by riot police.
Matt Genesis, 33, said he was duped after agreeing to rent his 10-bed £635,000 home out to a group of eight people who booked it via Instagram for a gender reveal. However the rental turned into a 'Project X' style disaster with hundreds of party-goers flooding to the venue causing chaos and £2,000 worth of damage. Matt told how he was first was alerted by noise complaints from neighbours on June 25.
He tried to log-in into the property's external security cameras only to discover they had been disconnected at the £450 a night rental.
To his horror he discovered that minibus loads of revellers had turned up at the quiet cul-de-sac in the village of Norden, Greater Manchester and others were parking over his neighbours driveways.
Police in riot vans had to be called to the scene to disperse some of the party-goers who had travelled as far as London to attend the party.
Matt is a director of Fairway Building & Remedial Contractors, the company which owns the property. After arriving to the home at 9.30pm, he was shocked to find 150 people filling the streets and trying to get in to the 10-person home.
Matt said: 'Whilst we were there, minibus after minibus was turning up – I'd say one every 15 minutes, a minibus full of six to eight people walking in. It was out of control – police turned up. We called them, obviously neighbours had called them. It was out of our control.
'Even the guy who booked it, it was out of his control on his behalf – he said he didn't expect anywhere near the amount of people, but it's been passed around group and groups.'
Matt said the operation had been 'calculated' – with guests disabling the home's security systems. Matt said: 'Usually if guests are checking in we have cameras on the property, but as soon as they entered they turned the Wi-Fi off.
'That disabled the cameras, so we weren't able to deal with it any sooner than they could. It was very much 'Project X'.' The embarrassed Airbnb owners were forced to say sorry to neighbours and cancel their next booking as they worked to replace broken furniture and deep clean the damaged house, suffering a total £2,000 in losses.
The property, which previously underwent a £200,000 renovation and includes a hot tub and pool tables, took three staff 12 hours to clean following the party.
The only money the owners received in return is the £450 per night charge, plus a £250 damage deposit - leaving them well out of pocket. The property is regularly rented out via Airbnb but on this occasion was booked via Instagram.
Matt said: 'It was so structured, before we emptied the house out the people who were there said 'where do we go?' Guests had travelled from as far as London for it, so it was very, very calculated. It hit us – we seem like the bad guys, but at the same time it did ultimately hit us as well in the pocket.'
Those living nearby were left miffed by the chaos. James Gartside, 80, and Jane Gartside, 84, have lived next door to the home for over 50 years, and remembered when it was previously owned by an older couple who had passed away.
They first realised something was brewing after they were asked to allow a party-goer to park in their driveway. Jane said: 'I think I knew it was going to be quite busy, you just got that feeling quite quickly.
'Nine o'clock one of the owners arrived and said 'I'm sorry, this is what's happening' and said the police had been sent for. They got everybody out.' She added: 'It was just that night was out of control, when the police came.
'They calmed it all down – there was no fighting or anything like that. We had a meeting, we went around, they invited us all around and everybody felt very upset. They were very apologetic.'
Mike Law, who lives on the other side of the property, said: 'They did very well to disperse them, in my opinion. In a way it was a problem at the time, but it's not lasted. There were certainly more than 200 people, I would say, it was a nuisance – but we can be a nuisance to our next door neighbours.
'Nuisance, OK, yeah, danger and that sort of thing didn't come in to it, in my opinion. I didn't know how they were going to fit in there. Before the big masses came I did offer our drive to park on, but I think the owners learnt a lesson on it and will obviously improve it.'
Airbnb said it had looked in to the situation and found the booking had been made through a third party, with no reservations made for the property on its platform. Comedian Reginald D Hunter appears in court over social media posts
The 56-year-old US stand-up is accused of three counts of sending an offensive communication on three different occasions – on August 24, September 10 and September 11 last year – to Heidi Bachram on X, formerly Twitter. He spoke to confirm his personal details when he appeared at London's Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday for the private prosecution, which is being brought by the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) charity. It is alleged Hunter sent a computer-generated sexual image to Ms Bachram in August last year, with the charges claiming it was 'grossly offensive'. Comedian Reginald D Hunter at Westminster Magistrates' Court (Lucy North/PA) No indication of plea was given and Hunter was bailed to return for a hearing at the same court on November 14. Deputy district judge Louise Balmain told him: 'There is going to be an initial legal argument as to whether the case should proceed and that will take place on November 14.' The judge told Hunter to attend that hearing as he will learn if the case goes ahead and whether he will have to enter a plea. Hunter, whose address was given as care of Kalber Struckley solicitors, was released on unconditional bail. Hunter regularly tours the UK and has appeared on comedy panel shows Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Have I Got News For You and 8 Out Of 10 Cats. In an Instagram post published last week, Hunter said the CAA is 'dragging me to court for jokes online'. Hunter also declared he is 'fighting a private prosecution for my comedy' in a crowdfunding appeal launched to help cover legal fees. A total of £19,836 towards a £50,000 target had been pledged by the time he made his first appearance in court on Monday. The crowdfunder, aimed at raising money towards specialist counsel and any appeals procedures and court fees, states: 'Born in Georgia in 1969, Reginald has been a force in UK comedy since 1992. 'Known for his biting social commentary, he has appeared on Have I Got News For You, 8 Out of 10 Cats and was Perrier-nominated at Edinburgh Festival. 'Reginald challenges audiences on racism, politics, and religion. He is staunchly anti-War and has publicly criticised Israel in the past.' The CAA describes itself as an organisation of volunteers which works to 'expose and counter antisemitism through education and zero-tolerance enforcement of the law'. Stephen Silverman, the group's director of investigations and enforcement, previously said: 'This is one of a number of private prosecutions that we are bringing, and there will be more to say on the case in due course.'

Gangster bludgeoned with golf clubs outside bar where UK mobsters gunned down
WARNING - GRAPHIC CONTENT: Sam Walker, who has a huge online following due to his criminal lifestyle, was left with a mass of staples in his skull after the attack in Spain A gangster was savagely assaulted days after filming a video at a bar where two Scottish mob bosses were shot to death. Sam Walker, a self-proclaimed social media influencer with a hefty online following for his criminal exploits, sustained severe injuries in the attack in Spain. He ended up needing a number of staples in his skull. The bloody assault followed his posting of a clip from Monaghan's bar in Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol. In May, Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jnr were gunned down in the same bar in front of terrified customers who had been watching the Champions League final. Walker, from Liverpool, visited the murder scene shortly after the shocking incident and broadcasted it on his Instagram and TikTok accounts. At the end of the video he says: "This is a message to any one of yous out here. "Stay on point, because if you get caught slipping. That's what happens. Three people have been whacked, two people are dead. Have a nice day, bam bam." His actions were seen as disrespectful to the recently deceased victims, however. It was then later revealed that Walker had been brutally attacked in Puerto Banus nearby, where he suffered serious head wounds that bloggers speculated involved golf clubs. Following surgery in a Spanish hospital, he released several videos seemingly flaunting the staples in his skull. A source told the Daily Record: "Sam Walker is very well known and has a big social media following but he is not in the same criminal league as some of the big players who have settled here. "Walker is known to create noise around his movements and to chase followers and hits, so there was scepticism at the seriousness of the attack at the start. But it does seem that he was very badly injured. It has been reported on several social media channels that the side of his head was 'caved in' and fragments of bone were lodged in his brain." The insider continued: "We don't know for sure but the video he made shortly after the Glasgow people were murdered did not go down well in some quarters and there remains the question that he was attacked as revenge. "Spanish police are well aware of this suggestion. There are various theories as to the motive for the attack. It is almost certainly related to gangland grudges." Walker's recent years have seen him globetrotting to Sierra Leone, Turkey, Cyprus, Ireland, Thailand among other places, rubbing shoulders with drug dealers and assorted criminals. Despite his large Instagram and TikTok fanbase, he often faces ridicule for allegedly concocting tales. Yet he has also engaged in acts of kindness and charity work in Africa. In the summer of 2018, Walker shared footage of himself amidst jubilant children in an impoverished Sierra Leonean slum. Notorious Walker has recently been seen delivering a container full of supplies and setting up a water tank and pipes in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. Amidst applause and cheers, a local man expressed gratitude: "We are happy that our brother Sam has come to help us with water and sanitation. We thank God for him." Walker confidently declared to the camera: "Now, no child is going to have to drink dirty water again." The infamous crook embarked on an elaborate journey to reach his destination, travelling by private jet to Belgium, flying to Spain, hopping on a cargo ship to Morocco, and then driving across the Sahara desert. Throughout his travels, he brazenly taunted the police on social media, boasting at the end of his grand voyage: "Better luck trying to catch me when I go out of the country next time, Merseyside Police." In March of the previous year, Walker had openly ridiculed the police after he skipped bail in the UK and escaped to Sierra Leone via private jet. His capture came as he was broadcasting live on TikTok, apprehended by local armed officers. Walker, who has admitted to a long life of crime, including drug, weapon and driving charges, once threatened to tend the career of footballer Ross Barkley's career. At one point, he also found himself in an unexpected quarrel with actor Stephen Fry. The Scouser reportedly has more than 130 offences to his name and last September was found guilty of contempt of court for live streaming from an Irish courtroom on TikTok while there entering a guilty plea for driving-related charges.

West Ham livid with FA as Lucas Paqueta spot-fixing case drags into new season
West Ham star Lucas Paqueta is still waiting to find out the result of an FA hearing into allegations of illegal betting, which concluded last month but is dragging on West Ham are growing increasingly incensed by the slow progress in the Lucas Paqueta case and are worried about the impact on their player. Paqueta has been investigated by the FA for alleged breaches of betting rules, but despite the hearing starting in March and finishing in June, he is still awaiting its outcome. The FA launched its probe back in August 2023 into allegations that the West Ham playmaker was involved in spot-fixing offences in four Premier League matches between November 2022 and August 2023. Although Paqueta did not place any bets himself, it is alleged that friends and family in Brazil profited after betting on yellow cards for the midfielder. He has denied the allegations and any wrongdoing. Paqueta has been impacted by the allegations hanging over his head, which could trigger a lifetime ban if proven. He was in tears after picking up a booking in West Ham's match against Tottenham in May, with the emotional weight of the case refusing to go away. West Ham have done everything in their power to protect Paqueta and support him and The Sun says they are furious that the case has dragged on. The squad will reconvene for pre-season training on Tuesday, meaning that another campaign could be impacted by the allegations. Having started the investigation in August 2023 and officially charged Paqueta in May 2024, the club are bewildered at how long the process is taking. The case scuppered a potential £85million transfer from the Hammers to Manchester City a few years ago and his form has suffered since. They are willing to sell again this summer, but know the case is likely to scare off any interested parties. Manager Graham Potter says the situation has taken its toll on the 27-year-old and his family. 'I think he's just a player that's trying his absolute best and wants the situation to be better and probably got a bit frustrated with the action,' Potter said after having to substitute him in the Spurs game. 'And then you see a human being, not perfect but I love Lucas, he's given everything and in difficult circumstances he's in as well.' His wife Duda took to Instagram in the aftermath of that game, describing their situation as 'a living nightmare'. She wrote: 'My husband has a posture and strength that I admire and that IMPRESSES me. We've been living this nightmare for two years, and he's ALWAYS strong... he's always had it in his head that he would only defend himself at the right time and place! 'There's NOTHING against him. Have you never noticed that? Anyway, God knows everything, and only HE knows why we're going through this! And only because of HIM are we well and living happily as a family! 'I just wish people would respect him.. People are mean and unfair, without knowing ANYTHING!'
