Adani Group denies any collaboration reports with BYD and Beijing Welion New Energy Technology
In an official filing to the stock exchanges, Adani Enterprises Ltd — the flagship entity of the conglomerate — dismissed the report published by Bloomberg on August 4, 2025, which claimed that the group was exploring strategic partnerships with the two Chinese firms.
'No collaboration being explored,' says Adani Group
'We categorically deny Bloomberg's report suggesting a tie-up between the Adani Group and Chinese companies BYD and Beijing Welion New Energy Technology. This report is baseless, inaccurate and misleading,' the company said in its statement.
The group clarified that it is not exploring any form of collaboration with BYD for battery manufacturing in India, nor is it in discussions with Beijing WeLion for any kind of partnership.
Earlier in the day, Bloomberg reported that the Adani Group was in discussions with Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD to establish a battery manufacturing partnership in India. The potential tie-up, according to the report, was seen as part of Adani's broader strategy to expand into clean energy and lithium-ion cell production.
As per the Bloomberg article, Gautam Adani was said to be personally steering the negotiations with BYD, with meetings reportedly taking place as recently as last week. The proposed collaboration aimed to support large-scale manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries, which are vital for both electric mobility and stationary energy storage systems.
The report highlighted that Adani's existing dominance in solar power generation, combined with BYD's leadership in battery technology and its position as the world's largest EV seller, made them natural allies in the clean energy space. Bloomberg also pointed out that Chinese firms continue to lead in affordable and advanced rechargeable battery technology, a domain considered crucial for achieving Adani's ambitious green energy goals.
Furthermore, the report suggested that these talks were still at an early stage and might not materialize. It also claimed that Adani was exploring similar partnerships with other Chinese renewable energy firms, including Beijing WeLion New Energy Technology, while keeping discussions open with European and South Korean battery manufacturers. However, Chinese players were reportedly offering the most attractive value-for-money proposition.
While denying these alleged collaborations, the group reiterated its commitment to India's energy transition through its ongoing clean energy initiatives. Adani Group has built a substantial clean energy portfolio across solar, wind, and green hydrogen verticals.
The group is currently expanding its solar module manufacturing capacity to 10 gigawatts (GW) per annum and plans to nearly double its wind turbine production capacity to 5 GW per annum. It is also actively pursuing the development of a facility for manufacturing electrolysers, a critical component used in green hydrogen production.

Despite US pressure, Russian oil tankers unload at Indian refineries
More tankers are poised to discharge another 2.2 million barrels of Urals in the coming hours Bloomberg By Weilun Soon and Rakesh Sharma At least four tankers discharged millions of barrels of Russian crude at Indian refineries at the weekend, a sign the closely scrutinised deliveries are continuing as normal, even as the US ramps up pressure on the South Asian country to stop purchases. Oil traders and shipping companies have been waiting for direction from New Delhi on whether supplies from Moscow will be allowed to continue after US President Donald Trump last week threatened punitive action to curb trade with Russia. Over the weekend, a senior aide accused India of effectively funding President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine. Washington's tough demands, coming after a surprise 25 per cent tariff on Indian exports to the US, threw private and state-owned refineries' purchase plans into disarray. Still, India hasn't asked refiners to stop Russian crude imports, according to people familiar with the matter. Three Aframaxes — the Achilles, Elyte and Horae — unloaded nearly 2.2 million barrels of Urals crude, a key Russian grade, to private processors Nayara Energy Ltd and Reliance Industries Ltd over the weekend after a slight delay, ship-tracking data show. The Mikati, also an Aframax, delivered more than 720,000 barrels of Russia's Varandey crude on a two-stop journey that included deliveries to refineries in Kochi and Mangalore. State-run Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd owns the Kochi refinery, while Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. is majority owned by state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corp Ltd. More tankers are poised to discharge another 2.2 million barrels of Urals in the coming hours, with Minion and Destan now at Sikka, a terminal operated by Reliance. Aldebaran is due to unload across the gulf at Mundra. While Bloomberg News couldn't immediately determine the buyer, the Mundra port serves both government-run Indian Oil Corp Ltd. and HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd, partially owned by state-run Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd. Reliance, the largest buyer of Russian Urals, has a long-term deal with Russian producer Rosneft PJSC that would ensure it can get those barrels over several years. India's appetite for discounted Russian crude, and its position as the single largest buyer of Moscow's seaborne oil, has long been a pain point for the US and Western allies. Scrutiny has increased in recent weeks, even before Trump's latest comments. Nayara was sanctioned by the European Union on July 18 for its links to Russia, prompting the processor to cut run rates and pushing trade partners to seek supplies elsewhere.

Wall Street rebounds as Fed rate cut bets intensify on weaker payrolls
(For a Reuters live blog on U.S., UK and European stock markets, click or type LIVE/ in a news window) Indexes up: Dow 1.06%, S&P 500 1.2%, Nasdaq 1.58% Tesla rises on 96 million share award to CEO Musk Spotify to raise premium subscription price, shares jump (Updates with analyst comment, early afternoon prices) By Nikhil Sharma and Pranav Kashyap Wall Street's main indexes bounced back on Monday after a sharp pullback in the previous session, buoyed by growing expectations of deeper Federal Reserve interest rate cuts following an unexpectedly weak jobs report. At 11:39 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 463.55 points, or 1.06%, to 44,052.13, the S&P 500 gained 74.56 points, or 1.20%, to 6,312.57 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 325.95 points, or 1.58%, to 20,976.08. Both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq were on track for their biggest single-day jump in more than two months. This is in contrast to Friday, when a dismal U.S. jobs report hammered the S&P 500 and sent it to its steepest intraday drop since May 27. The bleak data that also accompanied steep downward revisions for May and June forced market participants to amplify their bets for Fed rate cuts this year, noting signs of a weakening labor market. "When you have a Fed that operates in a lagging sense, you're going to have the market moving around as the data comes, that's what we're seeing with the weaker jobs report," said Charlie Ripley, senior investment strategist for Allianz Investment Management. Odds for a September rate cut now stand at about 84%, according to CME Fedwatch. Market participants see at least two quarter-point cuts by the end of this year. Underscoring uncertainty, Trump fired Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer the same day, her of faking the jobs numbers. "The revisions ... it brings a level of skepticism into the data sets," Allianz Investment Management's Ripley added. Investors also weighed Fed Governor Adriana Kugler's unexpected resignation, which could open the door for President Donald Trump to reshuffle the central bank's leadership to his favor. Trump has repeatedly threatened to fire Chair Jerome Powell, believing that rates should be much lower than they are. Meanwhile, Tesla rose 1.2% after CEO Elon Musk 96 million shares worth about $29 billion. All S&P 500 sub-sectors were trading in the green, with communication services leading gains with a 2% jump. U.S. factory orders tumbled 4.8% in June after an upwardly revised 8.3% increase in May, owing to a sharp drop in commercial aircraft orders. Meanwhile, Trump threatened to substantially raise tariffs on India over its purchases of Russian oil. Last week, Trump slapped a 25% tariff on goods imported from the country. After a big week for Big Tech earnings, companies from various sectors, including Palantir, Eli Lilly and Disney, will report this week. Among notable movers, Joby Aviation rose 20.7% after Bloomberg News reported that the company was exploring the acquisition of helicopter ride-share operator Blade Air Mobility . Blade Air's shares surged 26.6%. IDEXX Laboratories soared 26.8% after the animal diagnostics maker its full-year profit and revenue forecasts and reported better-than-expected second-quarter results. Spotify jumped 6.8% as the music streaming platform announced plans to raise the monthly price of its premium individual subscription in select markets from September. Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by a 4.76-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and by a 2.8-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq. The S&P 500 posted 25 new 52-week highs and seven new lows, while the Nasdaq Composite recorded 52 new highs and 72 new lows. Antfin to fully exit Paytm in ₹3,800 crore block deal
China's Alibaba group is saying final goodbye to India's Paytm, ten years after the conglomerate bet on what was then India's premier payment tech business. A unit of Alibaba will sell its entire stake in Paytm owner One97 Communications Ltd in a block deal for ₹ 3,803 crore, showed a term sheet, which described the sale as a "clean-up" trade. Antfin (Netherlands) Holding B.V., one of Paytm's largest shareholders, holds 37.7 million shares or 5.84% in Paytm. The sale floor price has been set at ₹ 1,020 a share, a 5.4% discount to Paytm's Monday closing price of ₹ 1,078.20 on the National Stock Exchange. Moneycontrol was the first to report the development. Antfin has hired Citigroup and Goldman Sachs for the sale. The order book opens on Tuesday, and may close the same day. The sale comes at a time when Paytm's stock has been rallying, buoyed by its first-ever quarterly profit of ₹ 123 crore in Q1FY26. This marks the final leg of Antfin's gradual exit from Paytm. Antfin held a 27.9% stake in Paytm when the company filed its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) in July 2021. Along with Singapore E-Commerce Pvt. Ltd's 6.8% stake, Chinese entities then owned a combined 34.7% of Paytm's pre-IPO equity — a level that drew scrutiny from regulators and market observers. In May 2025, Antfin trimmed its holding further by selling 4% stake for $246 million via a block deal, reducing its shareholding from 9.85% to around 5.85%. Prior to that, in August 2023, Antfin had transferred a 10.3% stake (then 44% of its holding) to Paytm founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Vijay Shekhar Sharma through his overseas entity, Resilient Asset Management.
