Nikola Jokić cries tears of joy, takes champagne shower after his horse wins race in Serbia

Much was made about Nikola Jokić's stoic reaction to winning the 2023 NBA championship.
This is not that.
Jokić, whose love of his horses is well-documented, watched one of them win a race in his home country of Serbia on Sunday. Arena Sport TV documented the action and Jokić's reaction in a video that the Denver Nuggets shared Sunday afternoon.
Jokić let the emotions fly.

After his horse crossed the finish line, Jokić put his head in his hands in tears. He then hopped a fence to access the track, still in tears as he approached his horse and his driver with his arms wide open. He then shared a hug with the driver and gave his horse a pat on the back.
The tears kept flowing as he walked with his team to the celebration circle. There, Jokić was in charge of the magnum bottle of champagne. He popped the cork, then sprayed down his team, horse included.
He then proceeded to pour champagne on the heads of his team members while saving the final champagne shower for himself.
It was a display of unbridled joy.
Cue up Jokić's stoic reaction in the immediate aftermath of leading the Nuggets to the NBA championship in 2023:
"It's good," Jokić told ESPN when asked how it feels to win his first championship. "The job is done. We can go home now."
This reaction resulted in jokes about how much Jokić does or doesn't care about basketball. Which were, of course, silly.
Jokić has been the best basketball player in the world for several years running. He's a three-time MVP and a two-time Olympic medalist in addition to being an NBA champion. Of course he cares about basketball. A lot. One doesn't reach his level without caring.
And he did let his guard down in the ensuing celebrations in the Nuggets locker room ... :
... and again during Denver's championship parade:
But it's fair to say that Jokić's love for his horses and their racing success holds an unparalleled place in his heart.
Nothing — at least in public — seems to come close.

What Alexander Isak's agent said about transfer as Anfield rumors swirl

Alexander Isak's agent recently suggested that the Newcastle United forward is close to taking "the next step" in his career, and it was rumored that one of his representatives was at Anfield on Monday. Liverpool played a double-header against Athletic Bilbao on Monday, and the Reds won 4-1 and 3-2 with two different squads. The Anfield Wrap claimed that one of Isak's agents was at Anfield, sending social media into overdrive. Isak has expressed a desire to leave Newcastle this summer, but the club rejected Liverpool's $145 million offer. Newcastle has since sent an official bid worth $105 million to RB Leipzig for striker Benjamin Sesko, which has sparked mass speculation that Isak may join Liverpool. "We are already studying and analyzing all options, and we may be close to finalizing the next step for the player," Gaitin said, via Saudi Arabian outlet Arriyadiyah. Isak helped Newcastle end a 70-year wait for silverware last season and scored in a 2-1 win over Liverpool in the League Cup Final. Despite achieving hero status, Isak expressed his desire to leave Newcastle in July. Newcastle was in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike earlier this summer, with ambitious plans to partner him with Isak. However, Liverpool hijacked the move and signed Ekitike for an initial fee worth $92 million. Despite signing Ekitike, Liverpool then switched its attention to Isak. The striker missed Newcastle's preseason tour due to a reported thigh injury, but it's believed he's pushing to join Liverpool. After making a formal offer, Liverpool has yet to submit an improved bid for Isak. However, should Leipzig accept Newcastle's offer for Sesko, then a record bid could force the club to part ways with Isak. Due to uncertainty surrounding his future, Isak has been training alone since Liverpool's opening bid. Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe hasn't spoken to Isak since the offer was made, but sent him a clear message. After Newcastle's preseason tour in Asia ended, Howe condemned Isak's behavior and warned him that isolated training may continue once the squad returns to England. "You have to earn the right to train with us," Howe told the Daily Mail. "We are Newcastle United. The player has a responsibility here to be part of a team and part of a squad - you have to act in the right way. So that is also at play here. "We will make sure that any player does that to earn the right to train with the group. No player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal." Howe also distanced himself from the transfer saga because he focused on Newcastle's preseason tour. "Other people have been dealing with that situation back at home," he said.

Where HoopsHype ranked Luka Doncic among the NBA's best point guards

Many people have considered Luka Doncic one of the three to five best players in the NBA over the last few years. It's no wonder why, as he has career averages of 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists a game and possesses the third-highest regular-season scoring average and second-best playoff scoring average in league history. Now that he has transformed his body this summer, his best basketball could be ahead of him, and that is a scary proposition for every NBA team not named the Los Angeles Lakers. But in HoopsHype's latest ranking of the league's top point guards, Doncic came in second behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder. "Following the disrespect of shockingly being traded by Dallas, the franchise that Doncic expected to spend his entire career with, it seems the Slovenian superstar has taken that to heart and used it to motivate him this offseason," wrote Frank Urbina. "Considering that Doncic historically hasn't always been the best about taking his summers seriously as far as his fitness level, that could be a great sign for the Los Angeles Lakers - and a scary one for the team's opponents in 2025-26. "An elite scorer, playmaker and rebounder for his position, Doncic is just lacking on the defensive side of the ball, but perhaps with his improved fitness level heading into the campaign, that might change, too. Regardless, Doncic remains on the path of first-ballot Hall-of-Famer, and we expect him to get right back to 1st Team All-NBA-level play in 2025-26, which should put the Lakers in championship contender status." In a way, it does make sense that Gilgeous-Alexander earned the top spot in HoopsHype's ranking. He just finished a campaign in which he led the NBA in scoring and earned the regular-season and finals MVP awards, not to mention his first championship. But he isn't the passer or rebounder that Doncic is, and he may not be quite as deadly as Doncic is in crunch time. Urbina did mention that HoopsHype could regret ranking the Lakers superstar at No. 2 by next summer, especially given that he is much leaner and fitter now.
