LeBron James, Nuggets Rumors Get Bold Update
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The future of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has become a major topic of conversation. One of the most recent rumors has connected him to the Denver Nuggets. After James and his business parter, Maverick Carter, were seen spending time with Nikola Jokic's agent, speculation immediately went off the charts about the two superstars pairing up following the 2025-26 NBA season. For those who don't know, James is set to play the final year of his contract with the Lakers. Many believe that the two parties will part ways next offseason. Read more: Report: Bulls, Josh Giddey Talks Receive Major New Update Nick Wright, during a segment on "First Things First," did not hold back from making it clear that he "knows" James will not be playing for Denver alongside of Jokic. "I can report unequivocally the idea that this tweet or Instagram caption was about LeBron playing on the Denver Nuggets next year is unequivocally 100 percent false," Wright said. "There is a zero percent chance LeBron is on the Nuggets a year from now. That's not my opinion. I know that." Thinking about James playing for the Nuggets is strange in and of itself. They simply do not pop off the chart as a potential top destination, nor do they have a clear financial roadmap to being able to sign a player like James. Other teams who have been connected to James that would make more sense are the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, and whoever decides to draft Bryce James should he choose to enter the 2026 NBA Draft. There is always a chance that James could choose to retire after the upcoming season. However, very few believe that he would retire without announcing it before his final year and giving the NBA a farewell tour. Read more: Lakers' Luka Doncic Sends Strong LeBron James Message During the 2024-25 season with Los Angeles, James still played at a high level. Even at 40 years old, he averaged 24.4 points per game to go along with 8.2 assists, 7.8 rebounds, and a steal, while shooting 51.3 percent from the floor and 37.6 percent from the three-point line. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for James. At least as far as Wright is concerned, that future will not include playing in Denver. Nikola Jokić cries tears of joy, takes champagne shower after his horse wins race in Serbia
Much was made about Nikola Jokić's stoic reaction to winning the 2023 NBA championship. This is not that. Jokić, whose love of his horses is well-documented, watched one of them win a race in his home country of Serbia on Sunday. Arena Sport TV documented the action and Jokić's reaction in a video that the Denver Nuggets shared Sunday afternoon. Jokić let the emotions fly. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] After his horse crossed the finish line, Jokić put his head in his hands in tears. He then hopped a fence to access the track, still in tears as he approached his horse and his driver with his arms wide open. He then shared a hug with the driver and gave his horse a pat on the back. The tears kept flowing as he walked with his team to the celebration circle. There, Jokić was in charge of the magnum bottle of champagne. He popped the cork, then sprayed down his team, horse included. He then proceeded to pour champagne on the heads of his team members while saving the final champagne shower for himself. It was a display of unbridled joy. Cue up Jokić's stoic reaction in the immediate aftermath of leading the Nuggets to the NBA championship in 2023: "It's good," Jokić told ESPN when asked how it feels to win his first championship. "The job is done. We can go home now." This reaction resulted in jokes about how much Jokić does or doesn't care about basketball. Which were, of course, silly. Jokić has been the best basketball player in the world for several years running. He's a three-time MVP and a two-time Olympic medalist in addition to being an NBA champion. Of course he cares about basketball. A lot. One doesn't reach his level without caring. And he did let his guard down in the ensuing celebrations in the Nuggets locker room ... : ... and again during Denver's championship parade: But it's fair to say that Jokić's love for his horses and their racing success holds an unparalleled place in his heart. Nothing — at least in public — seems to come close.

Nikola Jokić spearheads Serbia's FIBA EuroBasket roster after Nuggets' second-round playoff exit
Nikola Jokić confirmed his participation in Serbia's EuroBasket campaign a month before the tournament tips off in Cyprus, Finland, Poland and Latvia on August 26. On Monday, the Serbian roster was released on FIBA EuroBasket's X page, with the Denver Nuggets star spearheading the team. Several NBA players are joining The Joker on International duty as Serbia looks to secure the European title. Bogdan Bagdanović of the LA Clippers, Nikola Jović of the Miami Heat, Tristan Vukčević of the Washington Wizards, and Nikola Topić of the recently crowned NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, have all been called up to represent the nation in August. Other NBA superstars have already committed to representing their nations, including Luka Dončić for Slovenia and Giannis Antetokounmpo for Greece. Jokić is suiting up for Serbia after the Nuggets crashed out of the second round of the NBA season behind two seven-game series. Denver faced a gritty Clippers team in seven games to begin the postseason and ran into the talented and youthful Thunder in the Conference semifinals, ending their season. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] The three-time MVP averaged 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game last season as Denver secured the fourth seed in the West with a 50-32 record. Jokić and the team went into the playoffs after head coach Michael Malone was fired with three games remaining in the regular season. Jokić's national team stints included the 2016 FIBA World Cup qualifiers, the 2019 FIBA World Cup, the 2016 and 2024 Olympic games and the 2022 EuroBasket tournaments. In 2023, he decided to skip the FIBA World Cup, which dismayed Serbian fans despite their team winning Silver after falling to Germany. Now entering his 11th season in the NBA and with the Nuggets, Jokić has two years and a player option remaining on the five-year, $276 million deal signed in 2022. After inking the extension, the 30-year-old led Denver to its first NBA title by defeating the Heat in five games. Multiple reports have indicated that Jokić does not intend to sign a contract extension with the Nuggets this offseason. Instead, he's spent the summer pursuing his well-documented love of horses. On Sunday, Jokić enjoyed a tear-filled celebration following the win of his racehorse back in Serbia.
