Where is former Springboks captain Francois Pienaar now?

Before Bryan Habana and Siya Kolisi became household names, Francois Pienaar was the most recognised face of the Springboks.
He is best known for leading South Africa to victory in the 1995 Rugby World Cup and is also referred to as the 'Lays guy' due to his appearances in numerous commercials for the brand.
Pienaar was born in Vereeniging but completed high school in Witbank. He then enrolled at Rand Afrikaans University (now the University of Johannesburg), where he studied law. He made his provincial debut for Transvaal Province in 1989 and joined the Springboks squad in 1993, following South Africa's readmission to World Rugby.
Two years later, he captained his team to their first Rugby World Cup triumph at Ellis Park, a moment regarded as one of South Africa's most iconic. The image of Pienaar receiving the trophy from Nelson Mandela became an iconic symbol of unity in post-apartheid South Africa.
His stay with the national team was short-lived after he was controversially dropped from the Springbok squad after 29 caps by coach Andre Markgraaff in 1996. He then moved to Britain, where he became the player-coach for Watford-based club Saracens.
After retiring from playing, Pienaar became Saracen's CEO but stepped down a couple of yeas later and returned to South Africa where he took on various roles within rugby, including CEO of the Rugby World Cup Bid Committee.
He also worked as a rugby commentator and founded the 'Make a Difference' (MAD) charitable organization. On October 24, 2011, the former Springbok captain was inducted into the IRB Hall of Fame.
Despite stepping out of the limelight, Francois Pienaar has remained involved in numerous charities and regularly works as a rugby analyst and commentator.

All Blacks pick ONE uncapped player everyone is talking about

New Zealand head coach Scott Robertson on Monday named one uncapped player in his squad for the Rugby Championship, which begins this month when the All Blacks play back-back Tests in Argentina. Chiefs flanker Simon Parker was included for the first time for the opening match against the Pumas in Cordoba on August 16. 'Simon Parker had an impressive Super Rugby season with the Chiefs and brings a valuable skill set and physicality that we are looking forward to working with,' Robertson said. 'He has the ability to play blindside or No 8 and has gained experience in a number of New Zealand representative teams, so we believe he is ready for the step up.' Robertson named three uncapped players as injury cover – prop Tevita Mafileo, scrumhalf Kyle Preston and versatile back Leroy Carter. Tyrel Lomax, Luke Jacobson, Cam Roigard, Noah Hotham and Caleb Clarke will not travel because of injury. 'While we are clearly disappointed for our men who are currently recovering from injuries, that has also created opportunities for a number of deserving players,' Robertson said. 'These players have earned the opportunity through consistent performance, and we know that they will take this chance. 'It is also fantastic to have Tamaiti Williams and Wallace Sititi returning from their injuries, as well as welcoming Peter Lakai, Finlay Christie and Josh Lord back into the group.' Image: David Harrison / AFP Bongi Mbonambi, Frans Malherbe, Eben Etzebeth, Siyamthanda Kolisi, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Duane Vermeulen, Faf de Klerk, Handre Pollard, Damian de Allende and Cheslin Kolbe are the men in question. It points to a seriously impressive level of continuity that 66.6% of those who started in Yokohama also started in the showpiece four years later. Percy Montgomery was the first Springbok to reach a century of caps. Overall, his tally of 102 appearances places him seventh in the all-time reckoning. Only Eben Etzebeth, Victor Matfield, Bryan Habana, Tendai Mtawarira, John Smit and Jean de Villiers have more. Active players Etzebeth, Pieter-Steph du Toit and skipper Siya Kolisi are the standout candidates to enter the GOAT debate alongside Montgomery, Habana and Matfield. We've been spoiled for choice over the years. Willie le Roux is the eighth member of the club after recently bringing up 100 caps against Italy in July. Springboks: Plans for flyhalf role revealed

The Springboks will soon kick off their Rugby Championship campaign when they meet the Wallabies in Johannesburg on Saturday 16 August, and it's quite likely that Rassie Erasmus already knows what his team selection will look like for this opening encounter. When it comes to the all-important flyhalf position, veteran Handre Pollard is probably at the top of the pecking order, but it has become an interesting battle for that No 10 jersey between other dynamic playmakers such as Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Manie Libbok. Historically, the role of the flyhalf general has held such importance that very few coaches have rotated or experimented in this position. However, this is not the case when it comes to Rassie Erasmus. In fact, Erasmus has insisted there is no first-choice flyhalf in the Springbok squad, and it appears that selection at No 10 will continue to change depending on the opposition. 'Everything depends on who our opposition is on the day and what our plan is. I like to believe it gives us options,' said Erasmus. 'By not having a first-choice flyhalf, it makes it more difficult for opposing teams to analyse us and makes us less predictable. 'Who we choose depends on who we play and whether we go with a 5-3, 6-2 or 7-1 split on the bench. With a 6-2 bench, guys like Damian Willemse or Sacha could work nicely.' REMINDER OF THE REMAINING SPRINGBOK SCHEDULE FOR 2025: 16 August: vs Australia, Ellis Park, Johannesburg. Kick off: 17:10 . . 23 August: vs Australia, DHL Stadium, Cape Town. Kick off: 17:10 . . 6 September: vs New Zealand, Auckland. Kick off: 09:05 . . 13 September: vs New Zealand, Wellington. Kick off: 09:05 . . 27 September: vs Argentina, Kings Park, Durban. Kick off: 17:10 . . 4 October: vs Argentina, London. Kick off: 15:00 . . (*Still to be confirmed) – 1 November: vs Japan, Brighton. Kick off: TBD. 8 November: vs France, Paris.
