Flyer lands at Bengaluru airport with 4kg cocaine hidden in comic books

Bengaluru: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized more than 4kg of cocaine from an Indian passenger who arrived in Bengaluru from Doha early Friday. The contraband, valued at Rs 40 crore, was concealed inside the covers of superhero comics.
Acting on specific intelligence, officials from the DRI-Bengaluru zonal unit intercepted the passenger at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). On inspecting his baggage, officers found two comics that appeared unusually heavy. Further examination revealed white powder hidden in the covers, which tested positive for cocaine.
The total quantity seized was 4,006 grams. The passenger, produced before a court, was remanded in judicial custody.

Bokaro: A local court here on Monday awarded life imprisonment to seven individuals, including a policeman, in connection with a murder case. Additional Sessions Judge and Special Judge Deepak Barnwal convicted seven accused — Sukhwant Singh, Rahul Kumar, Charan Das Mahato, Mantosh Ranjan, Ritesh Kumar, Abhay Kumar, and Lalu Mahto. The court found them guilty of conspiring to commit murder and also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on each. Notably, Sukhwant was serving in the police department at the time of the crime. According to special public prosecutor T N Thakur, the incident took place on May 24, 2023, in Narayanpur village under the Pindrajora police station area. The accused were allegedly constructing a boundary wall on a land owned by Suresh Murmu. When he and his family tried to stop the construction, they were brutally attacked by the accused with sticks and rods. Suresh and several of his family members, including Dhananjay Murmu, Baburam Manjhi, Dinesh Manjhi, Munni Devi, and Kunti Devi suffered serious injuries. Suresh later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Ranchi: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has registered a case against late Sahara chairman 's wife Swapna, her sons Susanto and Simanto, and nine others for alleged illegal sale of land purchased with investors' funds. Among the accused persons are former chairman late Subrata Roy's wife Swapna Roy, her sons Susanto Roy and Simato Roy, relative Jaybrat Roy, company personnel O P Srivastava and Neeraj Kumar Pal, Sanjiv Kumar, Jitendra Kumar, Shyam Veer Singh ,Pawan Kumar, Tapas Rai and other directors and partners. Nagendra Kumar of Dhanbad had filed a complaint with CID accusing of cheating its shareholders in Jharkhand of thousands of crores of rupees. The CID formed a special investigation team and based on its finding, registered the FIR on July 11. The matter, however, has come to light now. Talking to TOI on Monday, CID IG Sudarshan Mandal said, "A DSP rank officer has been appointed to investigate the case. Soon the accused would be issued notices for questioning and collection of evidences in the case." According to the FIR, the company has illegally sold land plots in Patna and Begusarai in Bihar and Bokaro in Jharkhand in violation of the Supreme Court order. Moreover, instead of depositing the proceeds with Security Exchange Board of India the money was used for own consumption. Notably, according to report, around 30,000 people of Jharkhand had invested in the Sahara India. Claims amounting to around Rs 400 crore have been made by them against the company. Talking to an electronic media, DGP Gupta said, "There are two aspects in the entire Sahara issue — first is to return lost money of the victims and second to arrest culprits. We can assure that Jharkhand police will nab every accused in Sahara scam case, chargesheet them and jail them." He added that the Supreme Court in 2011 had ordered Sahara India to provide list of all its properties barring it to sell any of them. In case of the sale, the proceeds should go back to those who lost money in its scam.

NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Monday arrested Sandeep Yadav and Arvind Walia , director and promoter of Ramprastha Group , for their alleged involvement in an Rs 1,100 crore builder buyer fraud. The agency on Monday had carried out searches at three locations in Delhi and Gurugram in connection with a money-laundering probe against M/s Ramprastha Promoters & Developers Pvt Ltd (RPDPL). Both residential and business premises of the director and promoter were searched by the agency on Monday.
