GM China joint venture reports strong H1 sales, export growth
NEV sales totaled 413,314 units during the period -- six consecutive months of over 50 percent year-on-year growth. Exports totaled 125,539 units or sets from January to June, up 17.1 percent from the year before, with NEV exports soaring more than 200 percent for three straight months.
Among NEV brands, the Hongguang MINIEV family achieved sales of 171,064 units in the first half of the year, representing year-on-year growth of 105.4 percent. Since its market launch in July 2020, cumulative sales have surpassed 1.6 million units.
The automaker, which has entered markets across 104 countries and regions, including Central America, South America, the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia, saw its 3-millionth NEV rolled off the production line in Indonesia on May 23.
SGMW signed a strategic cooperation agreement with its partners in Uzbekistan in January. In June, the company exported its first Brazil-bound vehicles, exploring local assembly partnerships.
SGMW is based in the city of Liuzhou, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Indonesia eases regulation on franchising businesses
JAKARTA: Indonesia has eased registration requirements for companies seeking to franchise their businesses, aiming to streamline the process, Xinhua reported. The modified rules are stipulated in the 2025 Ministerial Regulation No. 25 on Procedures for Issuing Franchise Registration Certificates by Local Administrations. The Sarawak Premier said human judgment, moral courage, integrity and empathy were the essence of journalism. "These are the values that no machine can replicate. In truth, technology is at its most powerful when it works hand-in-hand with humanity, not when it replaces it. "That is why the future of journalism is not artificial but augmented. It is about enabling journalists to do more, reach more and inform more, with greater accuracy and depth," he said when opening the Sarawak Media Conference here on Wednesday (July 2). Held in conjunction with the state-level National Journalists' Day (Hawana) celebration, the two-day conference is themed "Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Media and Journalism". Abang Johari said the theme reflected the rapid evolution of the media landscape and the need for all stakeholders to adapt and respond constructively. He said AI was already being used to generate news reports, translate speeches in real time, verify facts at lightning speed and detect disinformation. In this respect, Abang Johari called on journalists to uphold ethics while adopting AI in their work. He said journalism was not just the reporting of events but the pursuit of truth. "Today's journalists are not only storytellers, they are guardians of public trust. "And that trust must be defended with every decision we make, including the use of technology," he added. Abang Johari also said Sarawak was building an ecosystem for AI and innovation to support the state's development towards high-income status by 2030. He said this includes setting up the Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre (SAIC) as a centre of excellence for AI research, policy development and human capital training. "Through SAIC, we are not only developing local expertise in AI but ensuring that the deployment of these technologies is governed by a strong ethical framework that protects public trust and democratic values," he said.

Malaysia's manufacturing PMI rises to 49.3 in June
KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The seasonally adjusted S&P Global Malaysia Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) posted 49.3 in June, up from 48.8 in May, showing a gradual move to stabilization. S&P Global Market Intelligence said in a note on Tuesday that coming in only marginally below the neutral 50 threshold, the index signaled that business conditions moved closer to stabilization over the course of the month. The index was also at the highest reading since February.
