GM China joint venture reports strong H1 sales, export growth
NANNING, July 1 (Xinhua) -- SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW), a joint venture between SAIC Motor, General Motors and Liuzhou Wuling Motors, has said that its global sales rose 18.3 percent year on year to 764,544 units in the first half of 2025, fueled by robust demand for new energy vehicles (NEVs) and surging exports. NEV sales totaled 413,314 units during the period -- six consecutive months of over 50 percent year-on-year growth. Exports totaled 125,539 units or sets from January to June, up 17.1 percent from the year before, with NEV exports soaring more than 200 percent for three straight months. Among NEV brands, the Hongguang MINIEV family achieved sales of 171,064 units in the first half of the year, representing year-on-year growth of 105.4 percent. Since its market launch in July 2020, cumulative sales have surpassed 1.6 million units. The automaker, which has entered markets across 104 countries and regions, including Central America, South America, the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia, saw its 3-millionth NEV rolled off the production line in Indonesia on May 23. SGMW signed a strategic cooperation agreement with its partners in Uzbekistan in January. In June, the company exported its first Brazil-bound vehicles, exploring local assembly partnerships. SGMW is based in the city of Liuzhou, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

New Madrid coach Xabi Alonso hails return ‘home' but plans new era
DPA Madrid New Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso aims to bind his connection to the history of the club with a new era of dominance. 'It's certainly a very special day that I'll be marking in my diary for the rest of my life. I feel at home here and I'm happy to be here,' an emotional Alonso said on Monday during his presentation in the Spanish capital. 'The connection to Madrid has always been there and this feeling has been rekindled.' The former Bayer Leverkusen coach replaces Brazil-bound Carlo Ancelotti and will officially take up the post on June 1, ahead of the Club World Cup in the US from mid-June. Ancelotti coached Alonso during his first spell as Madrid coach and also at Bayern Munich. 'I will not forget Carlo. He was a coach who moulded me, a great person. I take over from him with honour and pride and hope that I can live up to expectations,' said Alonso. 'It's the start of a new era.' Madrid president Florentino Pérez said Alonso was one of the 'greatest legends' of Spanish football having won the 2010 World Cup, two European Championships, the 2014 Champions League at Madrid and trophies at Liverpool and Bayern before turning to coaching and giving Leverkusen their first Bundesliga title. 'You are returning to take on one of the greatest challenges of your life,' Pérez added. Alonso, who won a league and cup double while going unbeaten domestically with Leverkusen last season, finished second to Bayern this term. He is being replaced by Dutchman Erik ten Hag.

The Italian, son of storied Brazil-bound boss Carlo, emerged yesterday as a strong contender for the vacant Ibrox position with reports in Spain even suggesting it was further down the line than that. However, sources close to the club moved to play that down, with a decision on the new manager to be taken over the next four weeks.
