Lufthansa CEO's wife, on vacation, mows down woman in Italy's Sardinia, expresses 'deep sorrow'
The report stated that Vivian was behind the wheel of her SUV when she hit Gaia Costa as the latter was attempting to cross the road. Gaia was using a Zebra crossing in Sardinia's Porto Cervo.
According to the CCTV footage, before she noticed the SUV approaching her, Gaia attempted to cross the road, and later tried to stop it with a wave of her hand, too. However, the car didn't stop, and Gaia was severely injured in the accident.
Soon the paramedics arrived at the spot and tried to revive Gaia for 20 minutes. But she succumbed to the injuries.
According to a report by local L'Unione Sarda, Vivian Alexandra Spohr initially did not notice the accident until a passerby reminded her. After being informed how injured Gaia was, Vivian fainted at the spot.
Vivian later underwent alcohol and drug tests, which were negative. her car is under technical probe.
Vivian has travelled back home to Berlin and reportedly helping with the inquiry. She has also made herself available to Italian judicial authorities, as she is not legally required to stay back in the Italian island for the ongoing investigation into vehicular homicide.
Her lawyer, Angelo Merlini, while speaking to the media said, "Vivian Spohr, who was involved in the tragic death, expresses her dismay and deep regret over this very serious accident."
In the meantime, the Spohr family offered the victim's family their sincerest condolences.
Porto Cervo's mayor, Gianni Addis, while recalling Gaia Costa's love of regional customs, said, "Gaia was a young woman who was deeply involved in the city's social and cultural life. She was passionate about our traditions and never missed the parades of the local folk group."

US DEA busts massive meth trafficking operation from LA to Australia, Surrey man held
The United States have detained a Surrey man – Opinder Singh Sian – for alleged links to the international drug trade in connection with alleged attempt to traffic 530 lbs. of methamphetamine from Los Angeles to Australia, reported Surrey Now-Leader. The report added that Sian had been charged with conspiracy to export at least 50 grams of methamphetamine and allegedly trafficked them on or around the summer of 2023 in Los Angeles. Citing the court documents, the report said that Sian is an "alleged member of a criminal gang" and had links with the Irish organised crime Kinahan family and Italian and Canadian organised crime groups. Also, Sian was linked to the B.C.-based Brother Keepers gang, reported the Vancouver Sun. Earlier in 2022, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)'s high-intensity drug trafficking area group received a tip from the DEA's Ankara regarding inserting a confidential source into an international drug trafficking organization. Surrey Now-Leader added that the organisation allegedly needed help from someone acting as the transportation coordinator for moving drugs from Los Angeles to Australia. When the DEA agent contacted the source on the phone, they gave them Sian's number. The warrant notes that Sian was living in Vancouver at the time, but the Vancouver Sun article noted his connections to Surrey. Reports claimed that the source and Sian met in person and spoke over the phone several times. They even allegedly discussed coordinating "multiple deliveries of methamphetamine from co-conspirators" to the confidential source in Southern California for shipment to Australia, added the reports. "Sian advised the source that he and his criminal associates would be delivering a total of an estimated 500-750 kilograms of methamphetamine that would be made in separate deliveries being coordinated by Sian's criminal associates," the court documents read. The document added that Sian and his associates arranged for four drop-offs to the source, which would be shipped off to Australia. Sian also created several group chats with the source and his criminal associates to arrange the deliveries. In mid-October 2023, DEA and Australian law enforcement "packaged sham methamphetamine and placed a tracking device inside." In the meantime, Sian has waived his right to a detention hearing in Nevada so he could have one in California. Until he is transferred to California for a detention hearing, he remains in custody.

Watch: Plane nosedives and crashes onto highway in Italy, leaving 2 dead
A small plane nosedived onto an Italian highway and exploded in flames, killing two people, in Brescia this week, the New York Post reported. The Freccia RG ultralight aircraft was nose-first when it crashed into the highway road, erupting into black smoke and fire. Caught on camera, the fiery incident killed pilot Sergio Ravaglia, 75, and his partner Ann Maria De Stefano, 50, as per the New York Post. Watch the video here: Two motorists were also injured in the incident, as per officials. Soon after the incident, authorities launched a manslaughter investigation, as questions mounted over the aircraft's condition and cause of the crash. Pilot Ravaglia appeared to be attempting to complete an emergency landing on the highway but failed to regain speed, causing the aircraft to nosedive and spin out of control, as per witnesses quoted by the NY Post.
