Mindy Kaling certainly has a strong work ethic, so says Running Point star and executive producer Kate Hudson.
During an FYC event for the Netflix basketball dramedy prior to the weekend, the actress gushed about the show's co-creator, per People, saying she was so dedicated to the series that she sent in writing notes shortly after giving birth to her third child in February 2024.

'I have to say, I've fallen in love with this woman,' Hudson said of Kaling, who also serves as EP on the show. 'And she's just not only so brilliant, but so trusting … she puts the best team together.'
The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star added, 'And she was pregnant. We had a script, like our first table read. She's on Zoom. She then has the baby and is sending notes like an hour after she has the baby. I was like, 'Isn't Mindy literally in labor?''Hudson concluded, 'She is a powerhouse and delivers what she says she's going to deliver.'
Also from Ike Barinholtz and showrunner David Stassen, Running Point is loosely drawn from the life of Jeanie Buss, the sports executive who inherited the family business of managing the Los Angeles Lakers. As the president and controlling owner of the iconic group, she is the first woman to lead a championship team in the NBA. In the show's fictionalized and dramatized adaptation, Hudson portrays the determined Isla Gordon, the newly appointed L.A. Waves CEO who must contend with league misogyny and her own brothers vying for her spot.
Already renewed for a second season at the streamer after a slam dunk inaugural season, Barinholtz previously told Deadline at the TV Contenders event that the writers room has opened and scribes are currently 'in the nitty gritty of breaking the season.'

Jussie Smollett Speaks in Netflix Doc ‘The Truth About Jussie Smollett?'

Jussie Smollett is participating in a forthcoming Netflix documentary about his infamous hoax case. From Raw, the producers of true-crime hits Don't F**k with Cats, Tinder Swindler and the streamer's Trainwreck series, The Truth About Jussie Smollett?, which is coming to the streamer on Aug. 22, is described as 'a shocking true story of an allegedly fake story that some now say might just be a true story.' Along with the Smollett sitdown, the 90-minute doc features interviews with police officials, lawyers, journalists and investigators who claim to have uncovered new evidence about the case and that 'with Jussie himself, this compelling documentary invites the audience to decide for themselves who is telling The Truth About Jussie Smollett?' Director Gagan Rehill said in a statement, 'This story is a thrilling ride, and we were lucky enough to have access to the key players. I wanted this documentary to balance their competing narratives and to also use their compelling, colorful testimonies to thread the light and shade of the story through the film. But much more than that, I wanted this film to speak to the particular moment of rapid cultural change when this takes place in 2019; when, as a society, we were becoming more combative, more polarized, more divergent over our shared reality — when we began to lack a common singular Truth.' Smollett, who broke out on Fox's Empire, was famously accused of faking a homophobic attack in Chicago in 2019. He was found guilty in December 2021 by a jury for felony disorderly conduct for falsely reporting to police that he was the victim of a hate crime. He served six days of a five-month jail sentence in 2022 before he was released pending an appeal. In November 2024, he then had his conviction overturned by the Illinois Supreme Court, with a judge ruling that a second prosecution after the case had already been resolved was a violation of his right to due process. Smollett has maintained his innocence in interviews, as he returned to the film industry. Tim Burton Appears Doubtful About Making ‘Beetlejuice 3'

LYON, FRANCE - OCTOBER 12: Tim Burton attends the opening ceremony during the 16th Film Festival ... More Lumiere In Lyon on October 12, 2024 in Lyon, France. (Photo by Stephane Cardinale - Corbis/Corbis via Getty Images) Beetlejuice Beetlejuice director Tim Burton said in a new interview that 'he loves the characters' but doesn't 'necessarily see' making another Beetlejuice film. Burton, of course, directed the blockbuster 2024 sequel 36 years after the release of the original Beetlejuice starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara, bringing back the trio of stars along with his Wednesday star Jenna Ortega as the daughter of Ryder's Lydia Deetz. During an interview with Burton and Ortega ahead of Netflix's Wednesday Season 2 —where it was also revealed that Netflix has renewed the show for a third season — The Hollywood Reporter asked the iconic director about Warner Bros. co-CEO Mike De Luca comment from an interview with Deadline in April where noted that development on Beetlejuice 3 was starting 'imminently.' 'Really? Nobody told me Maybe I've been replaced,' Burton told THR, while Ortega added, 'Maybe I've been, too. Maybe [her character] Astrid dies and goes to heaven instead [of the films' Netherworld]. They should just take Baby Beetlejuice on tour and send him to Hawaii.' Ortega, of course, was referring to one of the previous potential sequel ideas to the original Beetlejuice movie. After that, Burton reiterated for THR an answer to the idea about doing another Beetlejuice movie that he gave to the press (via Deadline) at Beetlejuice Beetlejuice's world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in August 2024. 'It took 35 years to make the second one, so by that time I'll be 105. I know those odds are not good,' Burton told THR. 'I really, really enjoyed making this one, and [Warner Bros.] didn't even really want to do it. We did it the same way I did the first one, with the actors doing improv. It was beautiful to see some of the old cast and have Jenna. But it's like trying to re-create the Wednesday dance scene. I love the characters, but I don't necessarily see it.' Schaben / Los Angeles Times via Getty Images) Jenna Ortega Wouldn't Be Interested In Another 'Beetlejuice' Film Unless Tim Burton Was Directing It In response to Tim Burton's answer about being replaced as director for a third Beetlejuice movie, THR's reporter, James Hibberd said to the filmmaker, 'It's tough for me to imagine you being like, 'Let somebody else do it,'' — and it's something that the director doesn't like the idea of, either. 'I feel very proprietary about everything I do, even if I don't own the characters,' Burton told THR. 'When they did the [Beetlejuice Broadway musical], I got pissed.' THR then asked Jenna Ortega whether she would consider starring in another Beetlejuice film without Burton in the director's chair. 'Oh, I would never. I also think anybody would be really wrong to get behind that project,' Ortega told THR. 'Without him involved, what is it? It is what it is because of Tim. There's no other film you can compare Beetlejuice to. So why would you do that? That would be a tad disrespectful.' Wednesday Season 2 arrives on Netflix with four episodes on Aug. 6, with Part 2 and four episodes debuting Sept. 3.
