Time of India20 hours ago
Bengaluru: Industries minister MB Patil said Saturday that 62% of investment commitments made to the manufacturing sector during the Global Investors Meet (GIM) held earlier this year have been converted into formal project proposals.
"In total, Karnataka received investment commitments worth Rs 10.2 lakh crore at GIM 2025, of which Rs 4.3 lakh crore — about 42% — have already been converted into proposals. Of the Rs 5.5 lakh crore committed to manufacturing, proposals worth Rs 3.4 lakh crore have been submitted," Patil said at a session with union commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
"This strong conversion rate reflects sustained post-MoU engagement with investors, ensuring that investment intent translates into tangible action," he added.

Patil said companies such as Krones, Safran, and TASL have already filed applications, with many starting groundwork.
He also highlighted the state's emerging role in aviation and aerospace.
"With IndiGo and Air India operating MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) facilities, along with TASL's upcoming MRO unit and HAL's existing operations, Karnataka has truly earned its place as the 'MRO Capital of Asia'," he said.

"As the world adopts the China+1 strategy and responds to uncertainties caused by global conflicts, Karnataka has emerged as a dependable and natural partner. We are building not just industrial parks, but self-contained, future-ready, innovation-driven ecosystems," Patil said.
The minister also spoke about the new industrial policy launched at GIM or Invest Karnataka 2025.
"The policy places a strong emphasis on sustainability, integrating decarbonisation goals, green regulatory frameworks, and dedicated promotion of environment-friendly industrial practices," he said.

ITR filing FY 2024-25: Top 8 mistakes first-time tax filers make; how to avoid them in AY 2025–26

ITR filing FY 2024-25: Filing an income tax return for the first time is an important financial milestone. While digital tools have made compliance more convenient, many first-time filers still fall into avoidable traps that can delay refunds, trigger unnecessary scrutiny, or create long-term tax complications. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now As we approach the AY 2025-26 tax return filing season, here are some common mistakes that new taxpayers tend to make and tips to avoid them. Choosing the correct ITR Form It is common for new filers to assume that ITR-1 applies to everyone with salary income. However, those with additional income sources like capital gains, house property, or freelance income may be required to use ITR-2 or ITR-3. Filing the incorrect form can result in the return being marked defective thereby requiring the need for filing a rectification. First-time filers should thoroughly evaluate their complete income profile and utilize the income tax portal, relevant utilities, or seek professional advice to ensure they are using the correct form. Reviewing Annual Information Statement (AIS)/ Tax Information Summary (TIS) and Form 26AS Many new filers, particularly salaried individuals, rely solely on their Form 16 issued by their employer, neglecting the comprehensive details available in AIS/TIS and Form 26AS. These statements reflect income reported by employers, banks, mutual funds, and others along with TDS/TCS deductions. Discrepancies between income and taxes reported in the tax return and those reflected in the statements can lead to mismatches, refund delays, or even notices from tax authorities. Downloading and comparing these forms from the income-tax portal prior to tax filing can prevent such issues and ensure complete and accurate reporting. Also Read | Not reporting all Incomes and losses Taxpayers often mistakenly believe that only taxable income must be declared. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now However, exempt income like PPF interest, and even capital losses must be disclosed. Failure to report such exempt income or losses can create gaps in your financial records and prevent carrying forward losses to offset future gains. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain a comprehensive list of all the earnings, including the smallest amounts, and report them under the correct schedule. Not Maintaining Proof for Deductions Although additional controls are introduced in the tax return form like entering the document identification number for any claim of deduction, there is no requirement to upload any supporting documents along with income tax returns. Even then, it is advisable to maintain all supporting documents, either digitally or physically for any future audit queries. Wrong Classification of Income Head Misclassifying income is another subtle but impactful error. For example, reporting freelancing income under the head 'Salary' or short-term capital gains reported under 'long term capital gains.' Such misreporting can lead to incorrect tax computation. Understanding the correct heads of income and ensuring appropriate classification is essential for filing an accurate tax return. Reporting Foreign Shares Indian employees working in MNCs often receive foreign shares as part of a Global ESOP Plan. Employees qualifying as residents must report foreign dividend income and capital gains upon selling of the foreign shares. Additionally, there is a requirement to report foreign shares in the Foreign Asset Schedule once the shares are vested. Also, if foreign tax is deducted on dividend income or on capital gains, employees can claim relief under the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement. Failing to report the income or not properly disclosing foreign assets can lead to penal consequences. Also Read | Not Disclosing All Bank Accounts First-time filers may declare only their salary bank account, missing out other savings or NRO accounts. While only one bank account needs to be pre-validated for refund, failure to disclose others may raise red flags. All your bank accounts (other than dormant accounts as prescribed by the Tax Department) such as savings, current, NRO account etc needs to be reported in the tax return. Completing the filing process: The importance of e-verification This is the simplest yet most overlooked step. Filing is only complete once the return is e-verified within 30 days. If not verified, the return is treated as invalid, as if the return was not filed at all. E-verification can be completed through Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or by sending the signed ITR-V by post. Finally, filing your tax return before the due date is very crucial to avoid late fees. Also, it is important to update the contact details such as email, mobile number and address which will help to receive updates and communications from the tax department in a timely manner. Also Read | Filing your tax return is more than just a legal obligation, it's your gateway into the financial system. Getting the basics right builds confidence and ensures a smooth, hassle-free tax experience. A little caution today ensures peace of mind—so file smart, file right, and stay stress-free. UAE rolls out new golden visa: Lifetime residency at Rs 23 lakh, India among first to benefit

NEW DELHI: In a major shift from its traditional investment-based residency model, the United Arab Emirates has introduced a new nomination-based Golden Visa, offering eligible Indians lifetime residency in the country by paying a one-time fee of AED 1,00,000 (approximately Rs 23.3 lakh), without the need to invest in property or business. Until now, Indian nationals were eligible for the UAE's coveted Golden Visa primarily through high-value investments, including a minimum AED 2 million (Rs 4.66 crore) in property. But under this new system, applicants can be nominated and approved based on their professional background, societal contributions, or potential benefits to UAE's sectors such as culture, trade, science, startups, or finance. The pilot phase of the initiative has been launched for India and Bangladesh, with over 5,000 Indian applicants expected in the first three months, according to officials involved in the process. Rayad Group, the consultancy firm selected to pilot the nomination-based Golden Visa in India, is leading the process in partnership with VFS and One Vasco centres across India and Bangladesh. Applications can also be submitted through the group's online portal and call centre. "This is a golden opportunity for Indians," said Rayad Kamal Ayub, Managing Director of Rayad Group. He explained that the vetting process includes anti-money laundering checks, criminal background verification, and social media screening. Approved visa holders can bring family members, employ staff, and engage in business or professional activities. Unlike property-based visas, which lapse upon property sale, the nomination-based Golden Visa is permanent. This initiative reflects the UAE's growing economic and strategic ties with India following the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed in 2022. The program is expected to expand to other CEPA partner countries, including China, in later phases. Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays . t, Indian business could create economic value worth $9.82 trillion. (AI image) India's economy could grow leaps and bounds in the coming years, estimates PwC India in a new report. The analysis projects India's total GVA to increase from $3.39 trillion in 2023 to $9.82 trillion in 2035, representing a CAGR of 9.27%. GVA or Gross Value Added serves as a measurement of the economy's goods and services production value, functioning as an economic performance and productivity indicator used in GDP calculations after tax and subsidy adjustments. According to the report, Indian business could create economic value worth $9.82 trillion by shifting from conventional sector-specific approaches to addressing core human and industrial requirements. The PwC report titled 'Navigating the Value Shift' indicates that Indian companies can achieve $9.82 trillion in GVA by 2035 through engagement in nine growth domains, according to ET. How it may impact India The analysis presents an innovative framework centred on 'domains', which encompass broad categories of human requirements, including societal living, movement, care, construction and power needs. These domains, as noted in the report, demonstrate value creation in the economy whilst being influenced by climate change, demographic evolution and technological advancement. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gold Is Surging in 2025 — Smart Traders Are Already In IC Markets Learn More Undo The PwC report states that each domain incorporates multiple industries and promotes inter-sector cooperation for comprehensive solution delivery. Business leaders in India are actively adapting to market transformations. According to PwC's 28th Annual Global CEO Survey: India perspective released in January 2025, "40% of India CEOs stated that their companies have entered at least one new sector in the past five years, with half of them generating up to 20% of their revenue from these new ventures," notes Sanjeev Krishan, Chairperson, PwC in India according to ET. He emphasises that organisations need to adopt a structured approach to diversification, focusing on domain-specific strategies rather than sector-based methods to enhance capabilities, foster ecosystem partnerships and develop sustainable business models. The analysis highlights nine distinct domains, encompassing various aspects of production, construction, healthcare and transportation. The manufacturing and industrial production segment, categorised under "How we make", could emerge as a significant contributor, with potential growth from $945 billion in 2023 to approximately $2.7 trillion in GVA by 2035. This expansion is anticipated to be supported by technological advancements, automated processes and increased focus on sophisticated manufacturing techniques. Also Read | Big jobs boost! The telecommunications industry exemplifies the advantages of domain-oriented approaches in fostering development. Telecommunications firms have expanded beyond basic connectivity services, now supporting various initiatives including connected transport, healthcare technology applications, supply chain verification through distributed ledger technology, and the integration of communications networks with power infrastructure. These diverse applications generate additional revenue streams through collaborative partnerships. A structured framework featuring "glidepaths and guardrails" has been presented in the report to assist organisations in their transition into emerging sectors. The framework encompasses strategic initiatives including ecosystem partner identification, addressing capability shortfalls, establishing predictive intelligence systems and formulating precise market entry-exit protocols. The report's projections utilise economic models based on the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC), incorporating data from the IMF, RBI and the IIASA Shared Socioeconomic Pathway 2 (SSP2). The analysis employs input-output matrices to map sectors to domains, revealing value flow patterns and strongest alignments. As India aims to achieve a $30 trillion economy by 2047, PwC's domain-centred analysis indicates that organisations aligning with fundamental human and industrial requirements, whilst fostering cross-sector partnerships, will be optimally positioned to contribute to and benefit from the nation's forthcoming phase of balanced and sustainable development.
