Campaign held in GCC cities to showcase khareef season
The campaign focuses on Khareef Dhofar Season, one of the most prominent tourism attraction periods in the Sultanate of Oman. During the khareef season, which begins on June 21 every year, Dhofar Governorate is endowed with moderate weather and adorned with picturesque vegetation.
To make optimum use of the khareef season, the MoHT provides visitors with full information that enables them to engage in different tourism experiences and activities, including recreational events, nature exploration trips and visits to heritage and archaeological sites.
The information also includes an account of direct flight options to Salalah. This facilitates access to hotspots in Dhofar Governorate and enhances its appeal as a preferred summer destination. Besides attracting visitors from GCC states, the information boosts Dhofar's presence on the regional tourism map.
The promotional activities provide an opportunity to introduce visitors to Dhofar Governorate's tourism attractions and reflect the Sultanate of Oman's commitment to develop the tourism sector throughout the year.
The ministry launched similar promotional campaigns during its participation in the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai in April 2025. Oman was represented at the event by Dhofar Municipality, which dedicated a special gallery in Oman's pavilion to highlight the features, landmarks and events that will be held during Khareef Dhofar Season 2025.
Last month (May 2025), the ministry organised two workshops in Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The workshops saw the participation of tourism sector partners from Dhofar Governorate, as well as Flynas and Flyadeal. It is worth noting that direct flights will be operated on a daily basis to Salalah Airport during the khareef season.
Earlier, the MoHT implemented similar promotional activities in the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Bahrain as part of events aimed at marketing the Khareef Dhofar Season 2025. - ONA

Each region offers its own unique natural and architectural features, along with human resources capable of managing and developing tourism in line with creative and innovative capacities. This decentralised approach supports wider outreach, increased visitor engagement, and expanded community participation. MHT showcases geological wealth at Al Hazm Castle
Rustaq – Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has announced that the fourth edition of the Omani Geological Heritage Exhibition drew 8,979 visitors between its opening on December 30, 2024 and closing at the of June 2025. Held at Al Hazm Castle in Rustaq, South Batinah the event was themed 'Sustainability and Job Opportunities'. Organised in cooperation with South Batinah Governor's Office, Petroleum Development Oman and Geological Society of Oman, the exhibition was part of ongoing efforts to expand the sultanate's museum offerings and increase the appeal of heritage and tourism sites across governorates. Among the exhibits were rare geological artefacts, including a fossil believed to be over 800mn years old, 3D models of a primitive extinct elephant fossilised teeth of which were found in Dhofar, and model of a dinosaur based on bone remains discovered in Al Khoud, Seeb. Several other fossils and geological specimens were also exhibited. A section of the exhibition was dedicated to the geology of South Batinah, highlighting opportunities for investment in geological heritage projects. These initiatives are expected to generate jobs, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises, tour operators and guides. Dr Al Mutasim bin Nasser al Hilali, Director of Heritage and Tourism in South Batinah, said the exhibition aimed to raise awareness on Oman's geological diversity and the importance of preserving its natural history. 'It helped highlight geological heritage sites as key contributors to the development of unique and marketable tourism experiences,' he said. Hilali informed that the exhibition attracted a wide audience, including academics, students and heritage enthusiasts, contributing to increased tourism activity in the governorate, particularly among those with an interest in geological tourism.

Dakhliyah to host month-long tourism festival in Jabal Sharqi
Muscat – The wilayat of Al Hamra in Dakhliyah is set to host Al Hamra Tourism 2025 Festival in August, with a month-long programme of cultural, recreational and adventure activities planned in Al Jabal al Sharqi. Running from August 1 to 30, the festival is part of wider efforts to boost the governorate's tourism profile and support sustainable development. Authorities aim to position Al Jabal al Sharqi as a year-round destination for visitors. Sheikh Hilal bin Said al Hajri, Governor of Dakhliyah, said the governorate is undergoing phased development to deliver an integrated tourism experience aligned with environmental sustainability goals. He highlighted coordination with Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to upgrade services and manage tourist inflow. Tenders for the Al Jabal al Sharqi Oasis project, covering 10,000sqm, are currently under review. Planned features include men's and women's prayer halls, a 300sqm restaurant, open-air theatre, shaded seating areas, pedestrian pathways, and year-round visitor amenities. The governor noted the project aligns with Vision 2040 objectives, particularly in supporting SMEs and promoting community-based tourism. Situated at around 2,000m above sea level, Al Jabal al Sharqi offers cool climate and is ideal for eco-tourism and outdoor adventure activities such as hiking and off-roading. With increasing interest in nature-based experiences, the governor stressed the need to develop infrastructure that accommodates visitors while protecting the area's natural environment. He also called for active participation of the local community, particularly youth, in tourism-related enterprises. Sheikh Sulaiman bin Said al Azri, Wali of Al Hamra, informed that this year's edition of the festival will feature a wide range of offerings catering to families, tourists and adventure seekers. The festival programme includes guided sunrise hikes, camping sites with furnished tents, horse rides, hiking trails, and 4×4 shuttle services to elevated viewpoints. The wali said the festival will contribute to long-term tourism objectives of Al Hamra, creating opportunities for youth and supporting local enterprises. 'This festival supports the integration of economic, cultural and social development goals,' he said.
