Lokesh Kanagraj Claims ‘I Don't Make Actors Sit For 3 Years Like SS Rajamouli'
Lokesh's Coolie will be facing a big clash with the upcoming highly anticipated War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani in the leads.
Lokesh Kanagraj is currently busy with his upcoming highly anticipated project, Coolie, featuring South superstar Rajinikanth. Backed by Sun Pictures, the film is all set to hit the big screens on the occasion of Independence Day 2025. As the team began the post-production, Lokesh recently sat for an interview where he took a dig at renowned director SS Rajamouli for his style of filmmaking, claiming that he doesn't make actors sit for 3 years.
Speaking on the Sudhir Srinivasan podcast, Lokesh addressed his forthcoming film Coolie and how he prefers to shoot a film like that, which is mostly multi-starrer. He went on to compare himself to SS Rajamouli and his film RRR, in which actors worked for more than three years. He shared that instead, he spends a few months to conclude the film, ensuring that the actors allocate adequate time and the entire time for his project.
The Vikram director said, 'I'm not making films like RRR, which requires actors to sit for three years. I complete my films in 6-8 months. As a result, I insist that my actors devote their full attention to my project and that I do not interfere with their costumes throughout the process."
Furthermore, the director also talked about his next slate of films after the release of Coolie. He said, 'After that, there's Kaithi 2. I have to make a film with Kamal sir and Vikram 2 because we haven't finished the story yet. Finally, it needs to be Leo 2, and Rolex is a stand-alone picture. I have an idea for that and Suriya sir and I have been discussing it for a long time."
Lokesh's confirmation for Leo 2 came as a surprise for the viewers, as the initial part featured South star Thalapathy Vijay in the leads and the actor has now announced his exit from the film industry to focus on his political career. It would be interesting to see who would step into the shoes of Leo 2.
Coming back to Coolie, apart from Rajinikanth, the film will also feature celebs like Shruti Haasan, Nagarjuna, Sivakarthikeyan and Sathyaraj in significant roles. It will also have a short cameo of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan.
Coolie will be facing a big clash with the upcoming highly anticipated War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani in the leads.

Fahadh Faasil confirms he insisted on playing Patrick in Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan: ‘I was pitched for a different role…'
Rajinikanth starrer Vettaiyan released in theaters on October 10, 2024, marking Fahadh Faasil's first collaboration alongside the superstar. However, did you know that Fafaa himself insisted on playing the role of Patrick? Fahadh Faasil confirms of insisting to play Patrick in Vettaiyan Talking with The Hollywood Reporter India, Fahadh Faasil revealed how he was initially pitched a different role in the Rajinikanth movie. The Aavesham star said, 'Vettaiyan was pitched to me for a different role. He (TJ Gnanavel) pitched the same film to me but for another role. However, when I heard the narration, I wanted to do this character (Patrick). I was like, let me do this one while Gnanavel sir wanted me for the other one.' 'This actually made it too last minute for him as well. You know to transform the character, to incorporate more scenes for me. I didn't want him to damage the script for my sake either, and decided to continue as it was written. This kind of choice happens, I have to see myself doing something while narration is happening,' he added. About Vettaiyan Vettiyan was an action thriller flick starring Rajinikanth in the lead role, which was directed by TJ Gnanavel. The movie featured the story of Athiyan, an encounter specialist IPS officer who accidentally shoots an innocent person. Upon learning about his fault, the officer reforms and begins to investigate the case to the full extent, revealing a huge educational scam behind all of it. With the superstar in lead role, the movie featured actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and many more in key roles. The movie had the Njan Prakashan actor playing the role of Patrick, a reformed thief who helps Athiyan in his missions from outside the police force. Vettaiyan was received with mixed reviews upon release, even with criticisms of Fahadh's character lacking depth. On the work front Fahadh Faasil is next set to appear in the lead role for the comedy thriller flick Maaresan, starring alongside Vadivelu. The movie directed by Sudheesh Sankar is slated to release on July 25, 2025. On the other hand, Rajinikanth will be storming the big screens this year on August 14 with the actioner Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

See the fan's post with pictures: When Rajinikanth was insulted by a producer For those unaware, Rajinikanth once recalled an insulting moment in his life during the Darbar audio launch. Speaking at the event, the superstar narrated how he was offered a positive character in another actor's movie, and a remuneration of Rs 6000 was finalized. The actor who wasn't a superstar at that time agreed to the salary and asked for Rs 100 or 200 as an advance. However, the producer refrained from paying the amount and assured it would be given to him on the day of shoot. On the first day of shoot, Rajinkanth was asked to put on his makeup, but refused to apply it until an advance was paid. The actor said, 'The production manager told me that the hero had arrived and asked me to sit for makeup. I refused. I told him that I wouldn't proceed without getting Rs 1000.' Knowing this, the producer became furious and insulted Rajinikanth, refusing to give him a role in the movie and making the actor walk home all by himself. The superstar added, 'That was when I realized that if I do not come back to AVM Studios in a foreign car, then I am not Rajinikanth.' Concluding his words of motivation, the Coolie actor revealed how he fulfilled the promise to himself, appearing at the same AVM Studios in his Italian Fiat with the numberplate 5004, smoking a cigarette and looking regal.
