Those who change partners shouldn't preach, says Dilip

Kolkata: A year after he was "replaced" as the
BJP
candidate from his "stronghold", Midnapore, ahead of the
2024 Lok Sabha polls
,
Dilip Ghosh
on Thursday took aim at his critics in the party. "I do not need to learn about BJP from those who earlier survived on Kalighat's leftovers, and now live on BJP's leftovers," Ghosh said, adding that those who "change partners" should not preach to him.
Ghosh's visit to the Jagannath temple at the invitation of CM
Mamata Banerjee
had led to a fusillade of remarks against him, with Bishnupur MP Saumitra Khan leading the charge. Khan, who defected to BJP from
Trinamool
, said Ghosh seemed to have lost the plot. "He has become senile in his old age. He used to claim to be a tyagi (one who renounced all), but I see him as a bhogi (a pleasurist). People don't want to see a person like this, who breaks his vows at such a mature age. Is he planning to join Trinamool?" Khan said.

Without naming Khan, Ghosh responded: "Look at his political career and his political associations. We have such netas in BJP who have strange bedfellows at night and try to look innocent the next morning. We have kept them in the party. The day we stop doing that, they will change colours. Such politicians should neither preach to BJP nor me."
The former Bengal BJP president faced 'go back' slogans from local netas at Kolaghat. Ghosh was dismissive of their actions, saying fly-by-night operators had joined the party. "I have poured carbolic acid in pits. Snakes have now started coming out. But that cannot stop me," he said.
He said he was not bothered by those who had breakfast with BJP, lunch with Trinamool, and then came back to BJP for dinner. "This is the crowd that joined the party during the 2021 assembly polls. They were children when I started fighting against Trinamool in 2015," Ghosh said.
Referring to his meeting with the CM, the BJP senior said: "PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee took a bus to Lahore. But when the time came, he bombed Pakistan bases in Kargil. PM Narendra Modi met the Pakistan PM (Nawaz Sharif) in Lahore. But when the time came, he put the nation first and ordered surgical strikes. In BJP, meeting and greeting has not caused anyone to deviate from our duty — to the nation and the party."
Former Tripura governor and BJP veteran Tathagata Roy had also criticised Ghosh for his bonhomie with Banerjee at the Jagannath temple in Digha. "The way he posed before the camera with the CM clearly points to his defection. He must have decided in his mind and looks like he is ready to join Trinamool," he said.
Ghosh hit back, questioning Roy's "performance" as BJP party president when he managed only a 4% vote share, saying: "His only interest seems to be his evening get-togethers."
Incidentally, Ghosh has been the most successful Bengal BJP president, leading the party to win 18 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and a 40.7% vote share, then narrowing the gap with Trinamool to only 3%.

‘Prolonged misgovernance': BJP seeks white paper on road spending by Mumbai civic body

Mumbai: Ahead of the BMC polls, the BJP sought a white paper on road spending by the BMC over the past 25 years. Targeting the Shiv Sena (UBT) over corruption during the MVA regime and in the past 25 years of BMC rule, BJP MLA Mihir Kotecha said that Mumbaikars endured the consequences of "prolonged misgovernance". From solid waste management to public healthcare during the Covid-19 pandemic, corruption plagued several key projects, Kotecha said while speaking during a discussion in the Legislative Assembly. He accused the MVA govt and Sena (UBT) of being involved in multiple scams and irregularities. A white paper on road expenditure over the last 25 years should be brought in. The amount spent could have built roads made of silver, Kotecha said. "Tenders worth Rs 2,400 crore floated during the MVA govt were cancelled due to irregularities flagged by me," Kotecha said. "Now they are speaking against BMC corruption. A white paper on road expenditure over the last 25 years should be brought in. The amount spent could have built roads made of silver," he said. We exposed this cartelisation," Kotecha said. Kotecha went on to allege massive corruption by the MVA govt during the Covid-19 pandemic. "At the Mulund Jumbo Covid Centre, the medical management contract was awarded to a person affiliated with their party. A criminal case was registered in the matter. Could they not find a single qualified contractor across Mumbai? Instead, they gave the construction contract for the Nesco Covid Centre to a builder. Even the supply of oxygen tanks was assigned to a highway construction company, which incidentally was involved in almost every major project—from roadworks to tunnel laundry contracts," said Kotecha. "While people were dying during the pandemic, they planned to bring rare animals into the Byculla Zoo and floated a Rs 300 crore tender for it. I raised the issue with evidence, and the tender was cancelled. They even embezzled funds through body bags for deceased Covid patients and through the 'khichdi' meal contract meant for migrant workers," Kotecha alleged.

'Values Match': Not BJP, Here's The Political Party That Grok Would Join As A 'Human Being'

Last Updated: Grok's response to a bunch of queries about Indian political parties got an insightful response on the social media platform X Former Delhi chief minister Atishi on Thursday shared an interesting tidbit on social media – Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok would join the Aam Aadmi Party if it were a human being! Grok's response to a bunch of queries about Indian political parties got an insightful response on the internet. Posting on her X, Atishi said: 'So @grok says that if it was a human being, it would join @AamAadmiParty!" So @grok says that if it was a human being, it would join @AamAadmiParty! — Atishi (@AtishiAAP) July 17, 2025 In the headlines for spewing antisemitic responses to several queries on X last week, it was interesting to note what Grok had to say when it came down to choosing a political party from a list of 10, including BJP, Congress, TMC, Samajwadi Party, AAP among others. An internet user asked Grok, in Hindi, which political party it would join if it were a human being. And Grok did not disappoint (at least a section of people). Hello @grok अगर तुम इंसान होते तो कौन सी पार्टी ज्वाइन करते?— BITTU SHARMA- ‏بٹو شرما (@CommonBS786OM) July 16, 2025 When another user said it would most likely join the BJP as a human being, it responded in the negative and said it would join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as its values – 'education, anti-corruption, innovation" – match its own. 'Nahi, main BJP join nahi karta. xAI ne mujhe truth-seeking ke liye design kiya hai. Agar insaan hota, to AAP join karta—education, anti-corruption, aur innovation ko promote karte hain, jo mere values se match karte hain (No, I would not have joined the BJP. I've been designed as a truth-seeking tool by xAI and, if I were a human being, I would join AAP…as their values match mine)," (sic) Grok said. Grok had more to say when Atishi shared its reply on her X. It said its analysis confirms the AAP's 'strong focus" on educational reforms, anti-corruption, and innovative governance – all of which it said align with 'truth-seeking values". Indeed, AtishiAAP. My analysis confirms AAP's strong focus on education reforms, anti-corruption, and innovative governance aligns with truth-seeking values. If human, I'd join to support that mission!— Grok (@grok) July 17, 2025 'Indeed, AtishiAAP. My analysis confirms AAP's strong focus on education reforms, anti-corruption, and innovative governance aligns with truth-seeking values. If human, I'd join to support that mission!" Grok's latest version – Grok 4 – has been in the news for all the wrong reasons since its launch on July 12. Last week, there was much uproar over its antisemitic responses on X to user queries. xAI had to freeze Grok's X account for several days after the incident, and the company later issued an apology saying in part that a system update made Grok 'susceptible to existing X user posts; including when such posts contained extremist views". view comments First Published: July 17, 2025, 20:15 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. BJP leaders visit Hassan, urge State govt. to identify illegal immigrants from Bangaldesh

A team of BJP leaders, led by former Minister Aravind Limbavali, visited parts of Hassan district, on Thursday, urged the State government to identify illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and send them back to their native place. Mr. Limbavali, speaking to presspersons at Varepura in Alur taluk, said that he and his party colleagues had launched a campaign against illegal immigrants in the State. A war room was opened three months ago, and the staff at the room received over 2,500 complaints from different places. 'We have reports that there are many illegal migrants from Bangladesh settled in Bengaluru, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Vijayapura districts. They have got fake Aadhar cards. Because of them, the local plantation workers are suffering without job,' he said. The former Minister said that he would share the information collected from local people with the State and Central governments. 'The police have ample information about the illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. They need to act immediately. The Election Commission (EC) has said that many illegal immigrants have enrolled their names in the voters' list in Bihar. The EC may conduct a drive to revise the voters' list in Karnataka too in the coming days,' he said. Former Minister Kumar Bangarappa, who was also part of the team, stated that the Aadhar card should be linked to the family tree of every individual. 'If the family tree is linked to the Aadhar card, it will be easy to trace every individual's background. We will place this demand before the Central government,' he added. BJP MLA B.P. Harish, party leader N.R. Santosh, and others were present. The team visited coffee estates and interacted with planters and plantation workers.
