UNC basketball odds to make NCAA Tournament according to FanDuel
We're in the home stretch on Selection Sunday, with many college basketball fans wondering: will the North Carolina Tar Heels make the NCAA Tournament?
UNC is currently on the outside looking in, with Joe Lunardi putting North Carolina amongst his "First Four Out" Saturday night. The Tar Heels were amongst the "Last Four In" entering Friday night's ACC Tournament Semifinals matchup against archrival Duke, but another heartbreaking loss in the final seconds move the Tar Heels' positioning.
UNC got some much-needed help from VCU on Sunday afternoon, as the Rams beat George Mason in the Atlantic 10 Championship, which prevents a stolen bid. North Carolina also needs Memphis to beat UAB in the American Athletic Conference Championship, a game which will end just before Selection Sunday starts at 6 p.m. ET.
There's also betting odds for the Tar Heels to make the NCAA Tournament, but those aren't extremely favorable. As of 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 16, FanDuel gave UNC +195 odds to grab a spot in the Big Dance.
North Carolina was at +300 on Saturday night, but as we mentioned before, VCU dished out a major assist by beating George Mason.
The Tar Heels and Texas Longhorns have identical odds to make the NCAA Tournament, while Indiana is most likely to advance amongst bubble teams. I simply don't understand why Xavier has better odds than Texas and UNC – the Longhorns have a 7-10 record in Quad 1 games, while UNC and Xavier both have just one Quad 1 victory each. As weak as the ACC is this year, it's stronger than the Big East.

One hundred wins for JRM. Congrats to Dale, Kelley, L.W. [Miller], everybody who's raced for JRM, everybody who works at JRM." With how Connor has performed in the Xfinity Series it may not be long before he makes the jump to the Cup where he'll race against the big dawgs. ESPN names Ohio State as a college basketball team that could 'make a jump' this season
We are all getting ready for the start of the college football season now just a little over a month away, but the college basketball season won't be too far behind. In fact, we're now within 100 days of the Ohio State basketball season, and ESPN took a big look at previewing hoops for 2025-2026 by looking at many different angles and storylines. One of the things Myron Metcalf and Jeff Borzello touched on was ten teams that "could make a jump" this coming season. And, if you are an Ohio State fan, then you have to like what the ESPN duo things of the Buckeyes this season because they were named as one of those ten teams. OSU was able to retain some key pieces of its core group, but outside of that, there's been a major overhaul of the guys suiting up in the scarlet and gray this season. The mix of old and new will have to come together for the Buckeyes to get back to the NCAA Tournament, but there's good reason to believe that it could happen. Here's what Borzello says about Ohio State this winter: "The Buckeyes showed flashes of their potential last season but couldn't quite string together a consistent run of form. With a terrific trio back in Bruce Thornton, Devin Royal and John Mobley Jr. -- plus the additions of Christoph Tilly and Brandon Noel up front -- Jake Diebler's team should find itself in the NCAA tournament." It sure seems like Ohio State hasn't had a shortage of talent over the last few years, but getting the team to come together and play as a team has been an issue that seems to be a problem in today's day and age of the transfer portal and name, image and likeness. Here's to hoping ESPN is right and that the Buckeyes make it back to meaningful games late and on into the postseason this basketball season. Nets' Drake Powell honored for being taken in 2025 NBA Draft
The Brooklyn Nets made one of the more surprising decisions amongst teams in the 2025 NBA Draft as they took a record-breaking five players in the event. Brooklyn made sure to address the lack of ball-handlers on the team, but one of the players they took, forward Drake Powell, not only has a different skillset, but he's also being honored from the place he grew up in. "The Chatham County Board of Commissioners adopted a special resolution Monday evening honoring Pittsboro native Drake Powell on his first-round selection in the 2025 NBA Draft," Michael Koh of wrote regarding Powell. After being inquired from the Atlanta Hawks by the Nets, Brooklyn used the 22nd overall pick on bring in Powell, a player who could be the Nets' latest attempt at finding a wing who can contribute on both ends. "Drake's journey… has been marked by excellence, discipline and an unwavering commitment to growth," Chatham County's resolution read in part, per Koch. Powell, 19, was born in Durham, North Carolina, but he spent most of his time growing up in Pittsboro, North Carolina, a town about 30 miles away from Durham. Powell played for Northwood high school in Pittsboro, where he showed his potential to be a great basketball player. "He's just stayed humble and very much committed to not just being a good player but being a good young man,' Chatham County commissioner Karen Howard told 97.9 The Hill, per Koch.. 'It was quite an honor to be able to recognize him and wish him well in his future endeavors… this is what Chatham County and Chatham County Schools is capable of doing." Powell comes to the Nets after spending his freshman season at the University of North Carolina, where he averaged 7.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 48.3% from the field and 37.9% from three-point land. Powell wasn't able to play for the Nets during the team's trip to Las Vegas to play in the summer league due to left knee tendinopathy, but he still means something to where his basketball journey began.
