Listen to article
Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and the diligent supervision of Federal Minister for Religious Affairs & Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, the Government Hajj Scheme for 88380 pilgrims is being elevated to unprecedented heights to ensure a seamless and spiritually enriching pilgrimage.
Key initiatives have been implemented to enhance the overall pilgrim experience.
The Pakistani Government's Hajj scheme offers the lowest-cost Hajj package globally, providing superior facilities compared to both public and private sector Hajj programs worldwide.
To further enhance accessibility, the Short Hajj Scheme was introduced for the first-time last year, attracting 17,000 pilgrims in 2024, with registrations increasing to 21,000 in 2025. This initiative ensures affordability without compromising on essential services.
Pilgrims are now given the option to choose between single, double, or triple-bed rooms at an additional cost, allowing for personalized comfort.
Additionally, family rooms are provided free of charge wherever possible, enabling families to stay together conveniently.
This enhancement ensures a more comfortable and cohesive experience for pilgrims traveling with loved ones.
Due to the non-uniform nature of buildings in Makkah, accommodations are allocated based on pilgrim profiling, ensuring optimal convenience.
However, assignments are ultimately randomized while maintaining integration with flight schedules and departure points. This systematic approach balances fairness with logistical efficiency.
To minimize the risk of lost belongings, unique, standardized luggage has been provided to all pilgrims, designed to be easily identifiable even from a distance.
Additionally, Mina bags have been introduced to discourage pilgrims from carrying large bags into Mina, reducing congestion and inconvenience for others.
For the first time in the history of the Government Hajj Scheme, air-conditioned tents with gypsum board partitions and sofa beds have been introduced in Mina.
These sofa beds feature head partitions, which help prevent the spread of communicable diseases, allergies, and bad breath.
Overhead shelves have also been installed to store Mina bags, effectively addressing space constraints in the tents.
This year, 56% of pilgrims will be accommodated in Old Mina, while 44% will stay in New Mina. Transportation in Mashair will be facilitated by 73% train usage and 27% bus usage, ensuring smooth mobility for all pilgrims.
For the second consecutive year, 100% of pilgrims will be housed in Madina Markazia, ensuring proximity to the Prophet's Mosque (Masjid an-Nabawi).
The accommodations in Madinah range from 3 to 5-star buildings, while Makkah stays include iconic structures such as Hiddaya Towers and Rayyan Towers, among other highly rated facilities.
Pilgrims will benefit from modern, air-conditioned buses for Salwat transportation, ensuring comfortable commutes between their residences and the Haram Sharif.
Additionally, an exceptionally diverse and rich menu has been curated, catering to the varied taste preferences of pilgrims from different regions of Pakistan, ensuring a satisfying dining experience for all.
To safeguard the health and well-being of pilgrims, around 400 medical and paramedical officers are deployed across dedicated healthcare facilities.
These include one well equipped hospital and nine dispensaries in Makkah, along with one hospital and two dispensaries in Madinah.
In collaboration with Saudi German Hospital and other leading medical institutions, this robust healthcare network ensures 24/7 emergency care, routine medical assistance, and prompt response to health concerns, providing pilgrims with peace of mind throughout their journey.
A dedicated team of 1,200 Pakistan-based staff and 600 Saudi-based local welfare personnel works tirelessly in coordination with Service Provider Company Al Rajhi to assist pilgrims at every stage of their journey.
From airport assistance and accommodation logistics to transportation coordination to Haramain, this extensive support network ensures smooth operations.
Additionally, staff members are readily available to address food arrangements, luggage handling, and any complaints, guaranteeing a hassle-free and memorable Hajj experience for all pilgrims.
The Pakistani Government's Hajj scheme continues to set new benchmarks in affordability, comfort, and logistical efficiency.
Through innovative measures such as air-conditioned Mina tents, family-friendly accommodations, optimized luggage systems, and high-quality transportation, the program ensures a seamless and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage experience.
These enhancements demonstrate a strong commitment to facilitating Hajj with maximum convenience at minimal cost.
These measures reflect the government's unwavering commitment to prioritizing pilgrim comfort, safety, and spiritual fulfillment while maintaining the highest standards of service excellence.

Pak passport at bottom of global rankings

Pakistan continues to rank among the weakest passports in the world, placing fourth from the bottom in the latest global passport index released by Henley & Partners. Pakistani passport holders can only travel visa-free to 32 countries — a position it shared with Somalia and Yemen, collectively ranked 96th out of 199. Meanwhile, Singapore has once again claimed the title of the world's most powerful passport. According to the July-December 2025 edition of the Henley Passport Index, Singaporean passport holders now enjoy visa-free access to 193 countries, maintaining their lead in the global mobility score. Two other Asian countries — Japan and South Korea — secured the joint second spot. Citizens of these countries can travel to 190 destinations without requiring a visa, highlighting Asia's growing diplomatic reach in terms of travel freedom. The third rank was shared by six countries: Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Spain. Nationals of these countries enjoy visa-free access to 189 countries. Meanwhile, Belgium, Austria, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal and Sweden collectively ranked fourth, offering visa-free access to 188 destinations. Greece, New Zealand and Switzerland tied for the fifth position, with passport holders able to enter 187 countries without prior visa arrangements. The Henley Passport Index ranks countries by the ease of international travel their citizens enjoy, based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Once considered the global gold standard for mobility, the US passport has now slipped to the 10th position — its lowest in recent memory — raising concerns that it may soon fall out of the top 10 altogether, for the first time in the index's 20-year history. In contrast, the United Arab Emirates has emerged as a rising star. Over the past decade, its passport has climbed 34 spots, now ranking 8th. China's travel document has also seen a remarkable 34-rank improvement over the same period, though it currently sits at the 60th spot. At the other end of the spectrum, Pakistan continues to languish near the bottom. It was placed at 96th, tied with Somalia and Yemen, granting visa-free access to just 32 countries. Only Iraq (97th), Syria (98th) and Afghanistan (99th) ranked lower. Slightly above Pakistan were Nepal and Libya at 95th, followed by Palestine, Eritrea and Bangladesh in joint 94th position. North Korea (93rd), Sudan (92nd), and Sri Lanka and Iran (91st) also fared only marginally better in the global mobility landscape.

Pakistan remains among worst passports in Henley's latest ranking

Pakistan's passport continues to languish near the bottom of the Henley Passport Index 2025 – fourth-worst – ahead of Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan, according to the latest global rankings released on Tuesday. Singapore retained the title of the world's most powerful passport, with visa-free access to 193 destinations out of 227 globally, according to the index. The index includes data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and ranks all the world's passports based on the number of destinations their holders can enter without a prior visa. Asian nations continue to lead the global mobility race, with Japan and South Korea sharing 2nd place, each granting their citizens access to 190 destinations visa-free. A contingent of European countries occupied the rest of the Top 5. Seven EU passports share 3rd place – Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Spain, all with access to 189 destinations. UAE was ranked 8th with a mobility score of 184, and the only country in the Middle East in the top 10. The UAE continues to be a standout among the top risers, shooting up 34 places over the last 10 years from 42nd to 8th place. Last month, Pakistan and the UAE signed a visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and official passports. Pakistani passport fourth-worst in the world: Henley Passport Index Dr Christian H. Kaelin, the inventor of the passport index concept, said the latest Henley Passport Index had revealed an increasingly competitive landscape in global mobility. 'The consolidation we're seeing at the top underscores that access is earned – and must be maintained– through active and strategic diplomacy,' she was quoted as saying in the press release issued by Henley on Tuesday. 'Nations that proactively negotiate visa waivers and nurture reciprocal agreements continue to rise, while the opposite applies to those that are less engaged in such efforts.' Biggest movers and shakers The UK and US have each dropped a place in the global passport rankings since January, continuing a long-term downward trend. Once the most powerful passports in the world – the UK in 2015 and the US in 2014 – they now rank 6th and 10th, respectively. The UK currently has visa-free access to 186 destinations, while the US trails with 182. Notably, the US is now on the brink of exiting the Top 10 altogether for the first time in the index's 20-year history. India has recorded the largest jump in ranking over the past six months, climbing eight places from 85th to 77th, while Saudi Arabia has made the biggest gain in visa-free access, adding four destinations since January. Its total now stands at 91, lifting the kingdom four places to 54th. Pakistan, UAE sign visa exemption agreement for select passport holders
