Josh Doig rekindles Celtic transfer interest as Kristoffer Ajer return route emerges

Tierney, 28, will be one of the first names on Celtic's team sheet as the Scotland international rejoins his boyhood club at his prime.

However, the defender's injury record coupled with Greg Taylor's likely exit, means that Celts are in the market for cover.
And multiple reports have suggested that the Scottish champions are set to revive their interest in ex-Hibs starlet Josh Doig.
Doig, 23, left Easter Road for Serie A side Hellas Verona in a £3million transfer back in 2022 and instantly caught the eye in Italy.

After a dream switch to Marseille collapsed at the 11th hour, Doig joined Sassuolo for £5m in January 2024 but couldn't save the club from relegation.
However, the full-back was a key figure in helping Sassuolo land promotion from Serie B at the first time of asking, making 31 appearances.
Doig has been on Celtic's transfer radar since he first broke through at Hibs and now, it's claimed that the Double-winners are weighing up an offer.

Meanwhile former Treble hero Kristoffer Ajer has been told to find another club by Norway manager Stale Solbakken, according to Sky Sports.
The towering stopper, 27, endured an injury-hit campaign for Brentford, starting just twice since the March international break.

Under contract until 2028, Ajer may feel he'll be given a clean slate by his next boss as Thomas Frank prepares to take over Tottenham.
Ajer - who lifted nine major honours at Parkhead - left Celtic for the Bees in a £13.5m switch four years ago.
The 43-times capped star made his big career breakthrough under Rodgers and his potential availability has set tongues wagging amongst the green-and-white faithful.
Elsewhere, Record Sport understands Celtic are keeping close tabs on Lennon Miller's situation and were in contact with the Motherwell board in the last window.
The Scotland new boy has been linked with a list of European clubs including Eintracht Frankfurt and Royal Union St Gilloise and the Steelman have already turfed out bids from Udinese and Gilloise.
It's believed Celtic have also scouted Hearts' James Penrice, but won't necessarily pursue a deal for the left-back.

One International Game Every Year for Each NFL Team is on 'The Horizon'
Could an increase in international regular-season games a year be in the near future for the NFL? It's certainly a possibility. In fact, an "international game every year for every team" is "probably on the horizon," according to Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, per NBC Sports. Blank's comments during an interview at Falcons training camp on Saturday come months after league commissioner Roger Goodell said last fall that the NFL wants to stage 16 international games per year. The league is limited to a maximum of 10 international games per year under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, but that number is reportedly widely expected to increase to 16 in the next labor deal. With 32 NFL teams, that would be a big lift for the league to schedule that many international games every season. In May, the league announced the full matchups for all but one game in its record seven-game international slate, which includes the Minnesota Vikings playing back-to-back games in different European countries (Ireland and England). The one matchup that hasn't been announced is who the Los Angeles Chargers will play in Week 1 in Brazil. Jets' Justin Fields participates in QB drills, despite toe injury
New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields participated in individual quarterback drills at training camp on Saturday morning, despite a dislocated toe on his right foot. The drills included rollouts and some throwing. Team drills remain off limits for now for Fields, who is considered day-to-day. Fields sustained the injury Thursday in camp in Florham Park, N.J., and was carted off the field. Tests showed the injury to be relatively minor compared to initial fears of a more serious issue. The Jets also have veteran backup Tyrod Taylor on the roster. Adrian Martinez, the 2024 United Football League MVP, and rookie Brady Cook also are in the quarterback room. A 2021 first-round pick of the Chicago Bears, Fields signed a two-year, $40 million contract in March, and the Jets are counting on him to replace Aaron Rodgers. Fields is 14-30 as a starter and has passed for 7,780 yards with 45 touchdowns and 31 interceptions in 50 games with the Bears (2021-23) and Pittsburgh Steelers 2024).
