Bengaluru to see consistent rainfall this week

New Indian Express16 hours ago
BENGALURU: Residents of Bengaluru can expect a week of consistent rainfall, gusty winds, and muggy conditions as weather forecasts from both the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) indicate a stable yet damp monsoon pattern across South Interior Karnataka.
According to the IMD, Bengaluru and surrounding districts will see light to moderate rainfall every day till Friday, accompanied by gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-50 km/h. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain steady, hovering around 29-30 degrees Celsius, while nights will stay relatively cool at 20-21 degrees Celsius. 'Though the rainfall may not be intense, its persistence combined with wind and cloud cover will keep the region under a blanket of moisture throughout the week,' the weather agency predicted.
In its weather bulletin, KSNDMC confirmed that moderate to widespread rainfall is expected across Coastal and Malnad districts, with 'isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall' likely from July 16 onward. For interior regions, including Bengaluru, the forecast pointed to light to moderate rainfall, with no significant disruptions anticipated at present. While yellow alerts have been issued for parts of Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, there are no formal weather warnings for Bengaluru as of now, it said.
Till Wednesday, Bengaluru's weather is expected to follow a consistent pattern -- cloudy skies, moderate showers and gusty winds. While the IMD has forecast rain for Thursday and Friday, it has not issued any official alerts or warnings for these days. However, the city may continue to experience scattered showers during this period as well.
While Bengaluru is not under any weather alert, the weather agencies have advised residents to be cautious. The coastal belt of Karnataka is likely to see more intense rainfall activity starting Monday.

Indore: Even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued heavy rainfall alerts for western Madhya Pradesh, Indore received only light showers in the last 24 hours, disappointing residents hoping for significant relief from the dry spell. The city recorded just 10.4 mm of rainfall until Monday morning, with a minor 2.5 mm recorded by 5:30pm, bringing the total seasonal rainfall to 165.1 mm — still 94.4 mm below normal. Despite the subdued rainfall, conditions remained humid throughout the day. Relative humidity peaked at 97% in the morning and stayed at 87% in the evening. The maximum temperature dipped to 27.2 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal, while the minimum remained stable at 23.2 degrees Celsius. Winds gusted up to 41 kmph during the night on Sunday. In contrast, districts like Dewas and Ratlam reported heavy showers. Khategaon in Dewas district recorded 140 mm of rainfall on Sunday night, the highest single-day total this season. Other nearby areas such as Satwas (112 mm), Bagli (107 mm), and Kannod (79 mm) also witnessed heavy rain. In Ratlam, rainfall ranged from 73 mm to 108 mm in different tehsils, and steady showers since morning filled up local water bodies like Amrit Sagar Lake. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The all new SP125 that comes with advance technology & features Honda Learn More Undo However, it also led to waterlogging and disruption in low-lying areas. According to IMD Bhopal scientist Arun Sharma, a well-marked low-pressure system over northeast Rajasthan and northwest Madhya Pradesh, along with an active monsoon trough, is causing widespread rainfall. "Western MP districts like Ratlam, Mandsaur, and Neemuch will continue to receive heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds on Tuesday. The activity will gradually shift eastwards from Wednesday," Sharma added. In Indore, overcast skies and forecast alerts failed to translate into significant rain, leaving residents concerned about the prolonged deficit as the core monsoon season progresses.

More rainfall activity to bring respite from heat across T.N. from July 16

Searing heat may let up in parts of Tamil Nadu, as more places may receive rainfall from July 16. Heavy rainfall is likely to occur over parts of the Western Ghats and northern districts this week. The Nilgiris and its neighbouring districts may receive heavy rainfall till the end of this week. From July 16 to 18, districts around Chennai, including Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram, are likely to see significant rainfall. The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, has predicted a drop in the maximum temperature across the State from Wednesday. A yellow alert has been issued , for the Nilgiris from July 15, with heavy rain expected to cover parts of north Tamil Nadu by July 16. An orange alert has been issued for the Western Ghats between July 17 and 20. Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Ranipet may receive heavy rainfall on July 17. On July 18, intense rain of up to 13 cm may cover six districts, including Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore. P. Senthamarai Kannan, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, said the well-marked low pressure area would influence westerly wind convergence over the State, bringing light to moderate rain in some parts this week. On Monday too, parts of the State sizzled, with Madurai Airport recording the hottest temperature for the day, at 39.4 degrees Celsius. Chennai's Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded above normal temperatures of 37.7 degrees Celsius and 38.7 degrees Celsius. Evening thunderstorms provide only temporary relief, as hot westerlies trigger scorching heat the following day. The same weather trend may continue on Tuesday, with maximum temperature likely to soar by two-four degrees Celsius above average in a few pockets of the State. This week's wet spell may increase the overall southwest monsoon rainfall, which is 9% below its seasonal average as on Monday, officials said.

Heat spikes in Telangana despite ongoing monsoon

Hyderabad: Despite the Monsoon being active across Telangana, several districts witnessed a sharp rise in day temperatures on Sunday. According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TGDPS), Khammam, Suryapet, and Nalgonda districts recorded some of the highest temperatures, touching 38 Celsius to 40 Celsius. The temperature map showed that while northern districts like Nirmal, Nizamabad, and Adilabad remained relatively cooler, the southern and southeastern regions experienced intense heat. Parts of Khammam were among the hottest, with localised pockets nearing 38 Celsius. Officials attributed the rise in temperatures to a break in Monsoon activity and clear skies that led to direct surface heating. 'This pattern is common when the Monsoon weakens temporarily. Clear skies push up daytime temperatures,' as per India Meteorological Department.
