NEET-UG 2025: Students raise alarm over faulty papers, urge NTA action

The NEET-UG 2025 examination, conducted on May 4 amid heightened security by the Ministry of Education in coordination with state authorities, is now facing backlash following reports of misprinted question papers and delays in grievance redressal.
According to a report by The Times of India, students and parents have raised serious concerns over the layout of question papers in certain centres, urging the National Testing Agency (NTA) to respond swiftly and ensure fairness in the evaluation process.
The results, expected to be released by June 14, hold high stakes for over two million aspirants vying for undergraduate seats in medicine, dentistry, and allied courses.
Booklet errors lead to confusion
In multiple examination centres, particularly in Sikar (Rajasthan) and Jamnagar (Gujarat), candidates reported receiving faulty booklets with misaligned page numbers and questions out of sequence.
Students assigned Paper Code 47 in Sikar found that question 7 was immediately followed by question 15, creating confusion during the test. A similar issue affected candidates using Gujarati-medium Paper Code 48 in Gujarat.
'I lost precious time trying to match the questions on the answer sheet,' said one student. Some reported marking the wrong answers entirely due to the disordered layout. ALSO READ:
Students asked to attempt faulty papers
Despite attempts to alert invigilators during the examination, candidates claimed they were told to proceed with the faulty papers. Guardians later filed formal complaints with both the Gujarat government and the NTA, providing scanned copies of the defective booklets.
'Students even raised the issue during the test but were told to solve the faulty paper,' a parent noted in a written complaint, as reported by the news outlet.
While the NTA declined to comment on the Sikar case, citing the matter as sub judice, the broader issue of paper quality remains unaddressed.
Syllabus concerns compound student anxiety
Alongside printing errors, candidates and coaching experts flagged questions they allege fall outside the prescribed NEET syllabus.
One such instance is question 38 from Code 47, which reportedly required the use of calculus-based derivatives—a topic more commonly found in engineering entrance exams like JEE (Main).
'All questions were from the prescribed syllabus. The answer keys have been published and objections invited from candidates. These will be reviewed by a committee of subject experts,' an NTA official said.

NEET aspirant, 17, dies by suicide in Wanadongri
Nagpur: In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old NEET aspirant, Vaidehi Uike, died by suicide at her residence in Mangalmurti Colony, Wanadongri, around 11pm on Monday. She was found hanging in her bedroom. Vaidehi, who had scored low in her previous NEET attempt, was attending private coaching to reappear for the medical entrance exam. Her father, Anil Uike, is a city police personnel, while her elder sister is pursuing MBBS. Police said Vaidehi returned home from her coaching class around 7pm and appeared visibly distressed. Concerned about her condition, her parents took her to a nearby hospital, where doctors cited mental stress as the cause of her unease. After receiving preliminary treatment, she returned home. Later, she went to her bedroom to change and locked the door. When she did not respond, her parents and tenants broke it open and found her hanging from the ceiling fan. MIDC police have registered a case of accidental death. Senior inspector Gokul Mahajan said no suicide note was found, but Vaidehi was reportedly depressed over her NEET performance.

20 debarred for forging certificates in MBBS, BDS applications
Chennai: At least 20candidates who forged their nativity, community, and NRI certificates in their MBBS/BDS applications were debarred for three academic years, and their candidature for 2025 admissions was cancelled, the selection committee announced on Tuesday. The committee will also initiate legal action against the candidates, it said. The selection committee scrutinised more than 70,000 applications it received for undergraduate medical and dental courses over the last two weeks. "We found some candidates submitted fake/forged/false documents. Their candidature is cancelled. If any more candidates are found to have submitted such documents at any stage of the counselling or admission process, the same measures will be carried out," said a senior official. At least four candidates forged certificates from embassies such as Abu Dhabi, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia. While seven applicants submitted fake nativity certificates from the tahsildars, nine others forged both community and nativity certificates, the announcement said. "Last year, we found fake embassy certificates in UG and PG applications. In some cases, students even managed to take the seat. We cancelled their admission, but we are still fighting court battles," a senior official said. To intensify screening, the selection committee has a four-tier system to verify documents. While the first tier of staff, mostly outsourced, verifies if candidates completed the documents, staff in the second tier red-flag suspicious documents, and officials in the third and final tier decide on action to be taken. Officials are now verifying other documents, including NEET admit cards, relationship certificates, and minority certificates, besides community, nativity, and NRI certificates. Hyderabad: CPI leader shot dead during morning walk
A Communist Party of India leader was on Tuesday shot dead by unidentified persons in Hyderabad's Malakpet area, The Times of India reported. The incident took place at about 7.30 am at a park in Shalivahana Nagar where K Chandu Rathod, alias Chandu Nayak, was taking a walk, the newspaper quoted South East Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police S Chaitanya Kumar as saying. The police said that about three or four unidentified assailants arrived in a car and threw chili powder on Rathod before opening fire, killing him on the spot. They fled the scene in the same vehicle. The police took Rathod's body to hospital, The News Minute reported. A case of murder has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, The Times of India reported. The police was scrutinising security camera footage from the park and nearby areas, The Hindu reported. They were also looking at whether Rathod had known adversaries who could have a motive to kill him, The News Minute reported. 'He was facing threats from some people,' Communist Party of India leader K Narayana told The Times of India. 'Earlier, he was implicated in a murder case. The incident appears to be due to personal enmity not a political one. We are finding out more details.'
