Congress MLA Patole climbs speaker's podium, suspended from assembly for day
MUMBAI: Maharashtra Congress MLA Nana Patole was suspended from the state legislative assembly for a day on Tuesday after he climbed the speaker's podium. Soon after the Question Hour, Patole, who is the former assembly speaker, demanded action against BJP MLA Babanrao Lonikar and Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate for "insulting" farmers. He came on the podium and was seen arguing with Speaker Rahul Narwekar. The House was subsequently adjourned for five minutes. When the proceedings reconvened, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis criticised Patole, saying the Congress leader moved aggressively towards the speaker, which is not right and is not expected from him. "Patole should apologise," he said. However, Patole again climbed the speaker's podium and demanded action against Lonikar and Kokate. The speaker then announced that he was suspending Patole from the House for the entire day. Lonkiar recently told a gathering of farmers in his assembly constituency Partur in Jalna district that "people who criticise his party and government should know they are getting clothes, shoes, mobile, monetary benefits of schemes and money for sowing because of us". Kokate had claimed farmers spent loan waiver money on weddings. "One rupee is something even beggars don't accept but the government is giving crop insurance for that sum, which is being misused by some persons," the agriculture minister had said.

Musk criticises Trump's "Insane" bill, calls to form new party
Washington, July 1 (UNI) Launching a scathing attack on US President Donald Trump's marquee legislation, Billionaire Elon Musk has called for the formation of a new political party. He pointed out that the "insane bill" record $5 trillion debt ceiling hike would severely hurt ordinary Americans. "It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS that we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY!!Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people," Musk wrote on X. The criticism of Trump's flagship spending bill-- "One Big Beautiful Bill" comes at a time when a marathon voting session of the domestic policy bill is underway in the Senate after a weekend of negotiations and delays. According to CNN, Senate Majority Leader John Thune went to the floor and informed reporters that 'hopefully we'll know soon enough' if Republicans' have the votes to pass the bill. 'This may take a little while,' he noted. Musk has dramatically escalated his anti-Republican rhetoric, slamming the bill's "insane spending" and claiming it exposes the Republican Party as no different from Democrats. "Anyone who campaigned on the PROMISE of REDUCING SPENDING , but continues to vote on the BIGGEST DEBT ceiling increase in HISTORY will see their face on this poster in the primary next year," Musk posted on X. He further warned, "If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day. Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE". He went on to argue that the bill proves Democrats and Republicans are part of a single "PORKY PIG PARTY" that prioritizes reckless spending over the interests of ordinary Americans. Musk, a former supporter of Trump, said that the new political party would represent the Americans who feel disenfranchised by the current two-party system. UNI AAB GNK 0949

Thiruvananthapuram corporation turns into battleground as BJP, LDF trade corruption charges
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With just months left for the Thiruvananthapuram corporation council's term to end, tensions are escalating between the BJP and LDF, as both fronts trade corruption allegations. The corporation's main office has effectively turned into a protest zone, frequently disrupting normal functioning and causing inconvenience to the public. The latest council meeting too was marred by noisy confrontations, with corruption charges dominating the session, leaving little room for meaningful discussion on civic issues. BJP councillors have raised a slew of corruption charges against the ruling LDF, including irregularities in the distribution of laptops for students, the purchase of kitchen bins, and other issues. On the other hand, the LDF has levelled serious accusations against BJP women councillors, including misappropriation of Rs 3 lakh by the Punnakkamughal councillor and bribe collection for distributing application forms for various welfare schemes by the Pappanamcode councillor. On Monday, the corporation's main office witnessed yet another round of protests. A march led by Haritha Karma Sena workers belonging to CITU reached the corporation office, demanding the resignation of the tainted BJP councillors. They also demanded that Haritha Karma Sena workers who were suspended in connection with the incident in the Punnakkamughal ward be reinstated. UDF parliamentary party leader P Padmakumar criticised both the BJP and LDF, stating that the two parties were hurling allegations at each other to divert attention from their own corruption. 'The ruling front has been mired in corruption since it assumed power. Backdoor appointments, anomalies in tax collection, and irregularities in the purchase of kitchen bins and laptops, as well as misappropriation of SC/ST funds, are among the many allegations involving the LDF,' he said. Meanwhile, amidst the allegations against BJP women councillors, the BJP staged a march to the corporation office, highlighting corruption in the LDF-led laptop distribution scheme. 'This LDF-led administration is corrupt and is targeting our councillors to divert attention from their own misdeeds. The allegations against us are baseless. As the Opposition, we don't have access to public funds to misappropriate,' said BJP parliamentary party leader M R Gopan. The LDF has announced plans to intensify protests against BJP councillors accused of corruption at the ward level. LDF parliamentary party leader D R Anil demanded the resignation of the accused councillors. 'The Pappanamcode councillor herself admitted that corruption took place in her ward. This has embarrassed the entire council and betrayed public trust. We will launch a protest to make the public aware of their actions,' he said.
