Sant Tukaram Maharaj palkhi begins wari from Dehu to Pandharpur
Every year, thousands of devotees from across Maharashtra in India and beyond embark on a spiritual journey which is unlike any other. Called the Pandharpur Wari, it is a centuries-old pilgrimage in honour of Lord Vitthal, who is a revered form of Lord Vishnu.
This deeply spiritual tradition is not just a walk— it is an emotion for many devotees with a deep cultural and devotional meaning.
The Wari begins from the towns of Dehu and Alandi, that are homes of two legendary saints— Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, respectively. The pilgrimage culminates in the sacred town of Pandharpur, on the auspicious day of Ashadhi Ekadashi; which falls on July 6 this year.
What is Pandharpur Wari?
Pandharpur Wari is a grand procession of faith, where Warkaris (i.e. devotees) walk for nearly 20 days, covering over 250 kilometres on foot. Along the way, they sing abhangas (devotional songs), perform kirtans, and immerse themselves in spiritual reflection.
Here are more details about this unique celebration in Maharastra:
Two prominent Palkhi (palanquin) processions lead the way:
- Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi from Dehu
- and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi from Alandi
Each procession carries the padukas (or sacred sandals) of the saints, symbolising their eternal spiritual presence.

Walking with his padukas symbolises a seeker's journey toward wisdom and inner peace.
The soul of Wari
More than a religious event, Pandharpur Wari is a living embodiment of unity, devotion, and cultural pride. Rich and poor, young and old, men and women— all walk together, chanting "Vitthal Vitthal!" with unmatched energy. There's no distinction—only shared devotion, simplicity, and service.
In an increasingly fast-paced world, Wari offers a chance to slow down, reflect, and reconnect— with faith, community, and oneself. Whether you walk a mile or watch from the sidelines, the spirit of Wari touches every heart it encounters.

Bus bookings for monsoon, festive travel surge as travellers hesitate to take flights

Pune: Travel operators are witnessing a surge in bus bookings owing to the flexibility and reliability of transport, the convenience of access to hill stations, and cost-effectiveness. The hesitation to book flights after the recent crash has also fuelled demand for bus travel. Devenshi Saluja, a resident of Baner, planned a last-minute bus trip to Goa and Varkala. "There have been many turbulence-related incidents in flight travel. I have an overall hesitation to fly following the recent air accident, as well. My bus journey was comfortable, and bookings were also easily available," she said. "We usually take a flight but this time, we have booked a bus for our journey to Coimbatore. We plan to visit nearby hill stations which turn lush green during the monsoon," said Nirav Kulkarni, a resident of Kothrud. Places like Bekal are witnessing a 100% year-on-year surge. Destinations such as Ooty, Coimbatore and Wayanad are also seeing strong interest, with an average 30% year-on-year uptick in bus bookings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Нов таблет с Android Pro 14 Murreice Купете сега Undo " Rikant Pittie, co-founder and CEO of EaseMyTrip, said they have seen a 10–12% increase in intercity bus travel demand in the last month alone. "One reason might be the fear of air travel because of turbulence and safety incidents, especially during monsoons. Also, we have observed that road travel for shorter distances has become the preferred mode, particularly for regional and religious travel in this season," he said. Travel operators said passengers are preferring intercity sleeper and AC luxury buses. Balasaheb Khedekar, president of the Pune Luxury Bus Association, said there has been an increase in demand for long-distance buses. "Sleeper coaches are running at 80% occupancy to places like Bengaluru,Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Part of it is seasonal rush, and maybe a 5-10% increase in demand is because of the hesitation for air travel," he said. Operators are also expecting robust demand for bus bookings during the upcoming festive season. The second half of the calendar year is traditionally a peak season for bus travel, due to festivals and extended holidays. "We expect a 30-35% increase in demand for bus travel from Aug to Dec," a bus operator said on the condition of anonymity.

Track Machine Derails Near Nerul, Disrupts Harbour Line Services

Mumbai: Hundreds of commuters were left in the lurch when a track relaying train (TRT) used during the megablock derailed near Nerul station on Central Railway's Harbour line on Sunday, leading to suspension of services on both Up (towards CSMT) and Down (away from CSMT) lines between Vashi and Panvel. A resident of Nerul stated that many commuters were stranded for almost the entire day as the services were hit during the megablock from 11am onwards and even after the block period. The inconvenience continued till the time of going to press. However, Harbour line services were not completely paralysed and were operational on the following rail corridors: CSMT to Vashi, Belapur to Panvel and Thane to Nerul on Trans Harbour line, as per a senior official. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai A TRT is a specialised railway machine utilised for the mechanised renewal of railway tracks, especially on high-density routes. According to a Central Railway official, the TRT was in operation during the scheduled megablock, which was to conclude on Sunday evening, but after the derailment, commuters at Nerul did not get trains to go to Vashi or Belapur side. Many opted for roads which faced traffic snarls and exorbitant fares charged by auto drivers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Providers are furious: Internet access without a subscription! A senior Central Railway official remarked that all-out efforts were being made for early restoration. Citizens were frustrated as there were megablocks in the morning and afternoon, followed by the disruption. A commuter tweeted that there had been consecutive megablocks on the Vashi-Panvel line for the past three weeks, and even after the whole day block, trains between Vashi and Panvel were stopped again, questioning the point of a full-day block and when citizens would be prioritised. On Harbour line, the block was on Panvel-Vashi UP and DOWN Harbour lines from 11.05 am to 4.05 pm (excluding Port line). The Up Harbour line services for CSMT Mumbai leaving Panvel from 10.33 am to 3.49 pm and Down Harbour line services to Panvel/Belapur leaving CSMT Mumbai from 9.45 am to 3.45 pm were cancelled during the block

Prayers held at Holy Tree in Arunachal's Kinzamani to mark Dalai Lama's 90th b'day

Guwahati: A prayer for the long life of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, was organised at the Holy Tree, named Gurusheng at Kinzamani in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday to mark his 90th birthday. The Dalai Lama had escaped from Tibet in 1959. He had rested at Kinzamani, where the Holy Tree grew from his walking stick that he left on a stone. He arrived in India on March 31, 1959, with a wooden stick, which he used as a walking staff while entering India through Zemithang and was received by the Indian security forces at Survashamba, 2 km from Kinzamani. "Prayer for his long life was organised beneath the Gurusheng tree by the lamas of Zemithang, along with other guests and dignitaries, including the public of Zemithang Circle," said Lama Kalzang Lhundrub, secretary of Gorzam Stupa Culture Centre. "The Dalai Lama had placed the walking stick on a stone and left it there. Local Monpas later recognised it as a branch of the Gurusheng tree. The tree now bears fruit and is fully grown. It has already become a major centre of attraction," he added. Last year, 18,000 tourists visited this tree. "This tree is the biggest attraction in Zemithang and a landmark of spiritual tourism. People believe that praying under the tree fulfils their wishes," said Deewan Mara, circle officer, Zemithang. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gold Is Surging in 2025 — Smart Traders Are Already In IC Markets Learn More Undo After the prayers at Kinzamani, the main celebration began before a photo of His Holiness placed at Gorzam Stupa, where the Dalai Lama stayed the second night on April 1, 1959, after entering India.
