'Minimizes my stomach, defines my waist': Amazon shoppers are obsessed with this 'beautiful' dress, so I put it to the test
Recently, I was searching for the perfect summer dress for an upcoming event and having no luck with my go-to retailers. I started to feel defeated so decided to check out Amazon for a last-minute option. I wasn't hoping for much, but thought Prime delivery would ensure it got to me in time, and maybe I would stumble upon something flattering that will get me by.
Luckily, I ended up hitting the jackpot. The PRETTYGARDEN Women's Eyelet Maxi Dress totally exceeded my expectations in terms of quality and cuteness. It immediately reminded me of the bestselling Somerset Dress from Anthropologie — but at a more affordable cost.
This stunning dress is perfect for summer.
I snagged it in this bright blue shade, which screams summer, and it scored me tons of compliments at said event. When I told people it was from Amazon Canada, they were visibly impressed. While $77 can be considered pricey for the retailer, in my review below I'll touch on why I think it's worth the price — as well as some areas that could use improvement.
However, while we're on the topic of price tags, the shorter — and equally gorgeous — version of this dress is currently on sale for $50 ahead of Prime Day 2025. I'm tempted to add a couple of colours to my cart for summer.
Let's dive into all the details of this frock, why I think it's great, as well as what I didn't like.
Right off the bat, this dress is effortlessly stylish and comfortable. It's made from soft, lightweight fabric and features a flattering A-line shape, chic V-neckline and dainty eyelet details that add a feminine touch.
The short sleeves and ruffled hem make it look elevated (and quite frankly, more expensive than it actually is). Plus, the flowy silhouette is flattering for all body types, making it a go-to for everything from special occasions to casual brunch.
It's available in sizes S–XXL and in various vibrant and neutral colours. You can pair it with your favourite sandals, flats or heels to complement virtually any look you're going for.
The airy eyelet material feels very comfy for all-day wear
Its flowy A-line silhouette is flattering and makes me feel confident
The V-neckline allows me to dress it up with necklaces
It's versatile — great for travel, events or casual days
Very stretchy and not constricting
Super easy to take on and off (no buttons, zippers or anything to fuss with)
It's on the pricier side for Amazon (however, still worth it, in my opinion)
I spotted some threads that had to be cut off
It's on the bigger side, so next time I'd size down
The liner underneath isn't as long as the dress itself (just a personal pet peeve)
No pockets!
👗 "Truly a great find."

Don't just take my word for it — let's see what other reviewers have to say about this dress. Do they love it as much as I do? Someone who is "very self-conscious" about their postpartum body said they're "in love with this dress." "This dress made me feel better," they stated.
Another person called it a "fun, cheerful dress" that you can wear to "a range of occasions." A third reviewer echoed this sentiment, calling it a "beautiful dress."
"This dress is so incredibly flattering," said one customer. They continued, "If it were $20 cheaper I would probably buy another colour."
"Minimizes my stomach, defines my waist," wrote one person. However, they said, "If I could change one thing, it would be to lengthen the arms a tad."
"The only 'eek' was the price… just a tad too rich for my blood but in the end, it was worth it!" shared another.
If you've been struggling to find the perfect versatile dress for many different occasions, this PRETTYGARDEN Women's Eyelet Maxi Dress might be just what you're looking for. As a shopping editor, I come across (and try on) a lot of pieces, and I can honestly say the quality on this one passes the test. After wearing it to an all-day event, I can confirm it's comfortable, lightweight and very flattering.
However, is it worth $77? I'm going to say yes, while simultaneously agreeing it's kind of pricey for Amazon. But hey, when you find something good, sometimes you've gotta splurge. Not interested in paying more than $50? Then I suggest starting with the mini dress version.
Snag the shorter version of my editor-approved maxi dress on sale for $50.

These are the celebs who are attending Jeff Bezos' Venice wedding
VENICE, Italy (AP) — The Venice wedding bonanza of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos reached its third and final day Saturday after the couple tied the knot a day earlier in front of around 200 celebrity guests in a secluded area of the lagoon city. Details of the much-anticipated wedding ceremony Friday night were kept tightly secret, until Sánchez Bezos posted to Instagram a photo of herself beaming in a white gown as she stood alongside a tuxedo-clad Bezos, the world's fourth-richest man. Athletes, celebrities, influencers and business leaders converged to revel in extravagance that was as much a testament to the couple's love as to their extraordinary wealth. A string of water taxis cut through the lagoon to bring Bezos, Sánchez Bezos and their guests to the tiny San Giorgio island, across the lagoon basin from St. Mark's Square, where the couple held their private ceremony. Paparazzi in their own boats followed close behind in a controlled chase, trying to capture the couple and their guests on camera, as police on personal watercraft patrolled a no-go zone. The celebrations are expected to end later Saturday with a large party in a former medieval shipyard, amid high security. Most guests arrived between Thursday and Friday. The star-studded list included names like Oprah Winfrey and NFL great Tom Brady. Here's a look at the who's who of the Bezos-Sánchez Bezos nuptials. The bride and groom are staying at the Aman Venice hotel on the Grand Canal, where the groom posed for photos and the bride blew kisses to the press. Ivanka Trump, her husband Jared Kushner and their three children arrived Wednesday. Other celebrities on the guest list include: — Queen Rania of Jordan arrived in Venice on Thursday for the wedding, but she wasn't accompanied by her spouse, King Abdullah II, the monarch of Jordan. — Kim Kardashian, her sister Khloé and mother Kris Jenner were seen arriving at the Madonna dell'Orto event Thursday evening. — Kylie and Kendall Jenner — Mick Jagger — Leonardo Di Caprio — Orlando Bloom — Bill Gates — Diane von Furstenberg and her husband Barry Diller — Usher — Jewel Kilcher — Sydney Sweeney The wedding has divided Venice, with some activists protesting it as an exploitation of the city by the billionaire Bezos while ordinary residents suffer from overtourism, high housing costs and the constant threat of climate-induced flooding. One group called Extinction Rebellion staged a small protest in St. Mark's Square on Thursday featuring a masked bride and groom and people holding posters decrying climate change and income inequalities. 'The planet is burning but don't worry, here's the list of the 27 dresses of Lauren Sánchez,' read one, a reference to the bride's reported wedding weekend wardrobe. Protesters said that their plans to disrupt the arrivals of guests at one of the wedding venues forced organizers to move the event to the more secure Arsenale area beyond Venice's congested center. The city administration has strongly defended the nuptials as in keeping with Venice's tradition as an open city that has welcomed popes, emperors and ordinary visitors alike for centuries. Bezos donated 1 million euros ($1.17 million) each to three environmental research organizations working to preserve Venice, according to Corila, the Venetian environmental research association. ___ Nicole Winfield and Giada Zampano reported from Rome.

Lauren Sánchez Bezos ditches 'sexy' garb for Sophia Loren-inspired wedding dress
Lauren Sánchez Bezos ditched her typical "sexy" garb for a traditional Sophia Loren-inspired gown to tie the knot with billionaire Jeff Bezos. The Amazon founder and children's book author wed in Venice, Italy on Friday, June 27, and Sánchez Bezos wore a dress that mirrored iconic Italian actress Loren's look from the 1958 film "Houseboat." Loren starred in the beloved feature opposite Oscar nominee Cary Grant. Sánchez Bezos wore a Dolce & Gabbana silhouette dress with a high-neck, adorned with 180 silk chiffon-covered priest buttons paired with a tulle-and-lace veil, inspired by a similar veil that Loren wore in "Houseboat," according to a Vogue magazine exclusive. Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sánchez tie the knot in controversial wedding ceremony "It went from 'I want a simple, sexy modern dress' to 'I want something that evokes a moment,' and where I am right now. I am a different person than I was five years ago," she told Vogue. "I went into a lot of therapy, and it's changed me in a bunch of ways. But it's really Jeff," she continued. "Jeff hasn't changed me. Jeff has revealed me. I feel safe. I feel seen. He lets me be me. Like I said about Sophia Loren being unapologetically free, he lets me be unapologetically free." Sánchez Bezos chose to imitate Loren for the occasion after she "researched pictures of brides in the 1950s" and "wanted to reflect back, and I saw Sophia Loren and her hands were" in a prayer position and "she was in high lace, up to the neck, and I said, 'That's it. That's the dress.'" The dress Sánchez Bezos wore for the fête was much anticipated because, at times, her tight, showy wardrobe has caused controversy. She wore a lingerie-inspired all-white look to President Donald Trump's second inauguration in January, which ignited both fierce criticism and applause. "It is a departure from what people expect. From what I expect, but it's very much me," the former "View" guest cohost told Vogue.

Sydney Sweeney pretty in pink for Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sánchez Bezos wedding
Sydney Sweeney was pretty in pink for the Venetian wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos. The "Euphoria" star stunned as she was pictured Friday, June 27, in a plunging blush pink dress — paired with a Messika diamond necklace — while leaving to attend the nuptials of the billionaire Amazon founder and the award-winning TV journalist. Sweeney was among the A-list guests who attended the star-studded ceremony, which also included sisters Kim and Khloé Kardashian, their youngest sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner and family matriarch Kris Jenner; Leonardo DiCaprio and his model girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti; and Bezos' fellow billionaire Bill Gates. Oprah Winfrey, Tom Brady, Tommy Hilfiger, Orlando Bloom and model Brooks Nader also attended. For Bezos wedding festivities, Sweeney's stylist Molly Dickson outfitted the star in a summer green and pink archival Elie Saab dress, with her blonde locks in lightly tousled curls. Earlier in the week, the "White Lotus" actress sported a playful little black dress-inspired look, pairing a black Chloé V-neck silk romper with Miu Miu buckle slingback pumps and Balenciaga LED sunglasses. Oprah Winfrey, Ivanka Trump, Khloé Kardashian wear pink at Bezos wedding While butter yellow has ruled the fashion industry in 2025, pink was the color of the day among fashion royals at the Bezos wedding. Khloé Kardashian wore a captivating pink strapless Tamara Ralph Couture gown with a feathery jacket, black sunglasses and diamonds while Ivanka Trump wore a Tony Ward Couture dress adorned with crystal beading. Oprah Winfrey wore a conservative pink gown while supermodel Brooks Nader also wore a strapless pink dress à la Sweeney and Kardashian. Sánchez Bezos wore a Dolce & Gabbana silhouette dress with a high-neck, adorned with 180 silk chiffon-covered priest buttons paired with a tulle-and-lace veil, inspired by a similar veil that iconic Italian actress Sophia Loren wore in the 1958 film "Houseboat," according to a Vogue magazine exclusive. "It went from 'I want a simple, sexy modern dress' to 'I want something that evokes a moment,' and where I am right now. I am a different person than I was five years ago," she told Vogue.
