MoHRE applauds Emirati professionals working in private sector

DUBAI (ALETIHAD)Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, reaffirmed the UAE's pride in its national workforce employed in the private sector, praising their meaningful contributions to the country's leadership and competitiveness.He highlighted that the private sector plays a vital role as a strategic partner to the government in nurturing Emirati talent and empowering them within the labour market.This came during his visit to GEMS Dubai American Academy, accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), where he met with more than 80 UAE citizens among over 790 employed across 44 establishments within GEMS Education Group.He was welcomed by top executives from the GEMS Education Group, namely, Dino Varkey, Group CEO; Jay Varkey, Deputy CEO; and Fatima Alshamsi, Head of Emiratisation. The visit was part of the Ministry's extensive and diversified programme to celebrate workers on International Workers' Day.Al Awar stressed the importance of continuous engagement with Emiratis working in the private sector to listen to their insights and experiences, understand their professional journeys, and address any challenges they may face, in an effort to support their job stability and career development.He also highlighted the Ministry's efforts to strengthen partnerships with companies that are committed to meeting Emiratisation targets; this includes organising site visits and highlighting the responsible role these establishments play in advancing government initiatives and supporting the UAE's ambitious vision and future plans.Moreover, Al Awar urged the Emirati employees he met to continue developing their skills and to approach their professional roles with a spirit of initiative and contribution. Following a briefing about the training and recruitment programmes that GEMS Education implements, He praised the institution for its efforts to provide a stable, supportive work environment, and its commitment to Emiratisation.'Private education is one of the priority sectors in the Emiratisation mandate,' Al Awar noted. 'Efforts to drive Emiratisation in the private sector are steadily progressing towards achieving national targets, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council.'He commended GEMS Education for its proactive role in achieving Emiratisation targets and its commitment to cultivating an attractive workplace that inspires creativity and excellence.During his meeting with officials at GEMS Dubai American Academy, Al Awar reaffirmed the key role that Emirati talents play, underlining their competitiveness in the education sector, the added value they bring by supporting innovation, and their ability to navigate contemporary academic requirements related to the economy of the future – all of which is made possible by the level of preparedness of Emirati professionals, the advanced qualifications of educational institutions and universities in the UAE, and the support provided by the Nafis programme.For his part, Sunny Varkey, Founder and Executive Chairman of GEMS Education Group, said, 'At GEMS Education, we are committed to supporting the UAE's Emiratisation strategy. Dubai Land Department Expands Real Estate Broker Programme to Emirati Citizens
The Dubai Land Department (DLD) has opened registration for Emirati citizens to join its 'Dubai Real Estate Broker Programme' through a dedicated portal, reinforcing its commitment to increasing national participation in the real estate sector. The move comes in response to high interest from citizens since the programme's launch. Already surpassing 180% of its annual target, the initiative has trained a growing number of Emiratis, supported by partnerships with accredited institutions and private sector stakeholders. Participants who complete the required training receive a three-year real estate broker card, enabling them to operate legally in the market. To date, transactions by programme brokers have exceeded AED 500 million, and 231 new brokerage firms have been licensed. DLD has held over 10 collaborative meetings with 71 strategic partners, including real estate developers, brokerage firms, and training institutes, to build an integrated support ecosystem. The programme is also introducing an incentive system, awarding evaluation points to firms that employ Emirati brokers, boosting their competitive market standing. Aligned with the Dubai Social Agenda 2033, the programme aims to empower Emiratis through skill development, employment opportunities, and participation in major real estate projects. Hamdan bin Mohammed Approves Strategic Policies to Boost Dubai's Global Competitiveness
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has approved a series of new strategic policies and development projects aimed at strengthening Dubai's role as a global hub for education, innovation, sustainability, and governance. Chaired by Sheikh Hamdan, The Executive Council of Dubai approved wide-ranging initiatives during its latest meeting at Emirates Towers. These include policies focused on higher education, career guidance, air quality, corporate dispute resolution, and construction governance — all aligned with the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Education Strategy 2033. The Council endorsed a major project to attract top global universities, aiming to position Dubai among the world's top 10 student destinations by 2033. The initiative targets having international students make up 50% of total enrolments, with the higher education sector expected to contribute AED5.6 billion to Dubai's GDP. An Academic and Career Guidance Policy was also approved to support students in making informed career decisions. Led by the KHDA, the policy sets key targets including 90% employment for Emirati graduates within six months of graduation and enhanced collaboration between schools, universities, and employers. To further bolster Dubai's legal and business environment, the Council greenlit the Dubai International Mediation Centre, designed to offer globally recognised, cost-efficient dispute resolution services and attract foreign investment. Environmental sustainability was another key focus, with the approval of the Air Quality Strategy 2030. The plan aims to ensure 90% of days meet clean air standards by the end of the decade, with targeted reductions in major pollutants. Lastly, the Governance Policy for Government Construction Projects was introduced to standardise processes, boost transparency, and optimise public spending. Big changes are coming to the UAE this July—affecting everything from visa rules and work schedules to public health and smoking alternatives. Whether you're a resident, worker, or frequent traveler, here are 7 key updates you need to know to stay ahead this month. Visa-Free Entry to Armenia for UAE Residents Starting July 1, residents of the UAE can now travel to Armenia without needing a visa. The new policy allows stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. However, your UAE residency visa must be valid for at least six months on your date of arrival. Previously, this privilege was only extended to UAE nationals. Now, the exemption covers all passport holders residing in any of the six GCC countries. Emiratisation Deadline Approaches Companies in the private sector with 50 or more employees have until June 30, 2025 to hit their mid-year Emiratisation target. As part of the UAE's push to increase Emirati presence in the workforce, at least 1% of skilled jobs must be filled by Emiratis. Authorities will also monitor whether companies are registering these employees with the social security fund and making proper monthly contributions. Dubai Rolls Out Flexible Summer Work Hours Dubai government employees will shift to new summer hours under the 'Our Flexible Summer' initiative, which starts July 1 and runs until September 12.
