Mark Wahlberg hails Scots brothers rowing the Pacific as ‘warriors'

Independenta day ago
Three Scottish brothers attempting to become the fastest people to row across the Pacific have received a second call of support from Hollywood star Mark Wahlberg.
Ewan, Jamie and Lachlan Maclean are more than halfway into their 120-day Pacific challenge to cross 9,000 miles of open ocean between Lima and Sydney.
Earlier in June, the Perfect Storm star had video-called them to say their record-breaking bid 'could be a movie'.
In his latest call, the 53-year-old actor said he would keep in touch with the trio as they make their way across the globe, hailing them as 'f****** warriors'.
He said: 'You guys are bored. You need someone to talk to. You need someone to, you know, give you a little pump up. Let me know. I'm available.'
Wahlberg joked: 'Well, you know what would make me a legend? Playing one of you guys, or all three, in a movie. There've been a few actors who've played twins before, but I could maybe play all three of you, change up my look a little bit.'
He added: 'You guys are doing something that's so extraordinary. It's another level. This is real man shit you're doing. You're out there with big smiles on your faces, pounding away, while everybody else is lying in bed in dreamland, nice and dry, and still waking up complaining about something.
'You're not doing this for attention – you're doing it to raise attention for a very worthy cause. You guys are real men. You're f****** warriors. It's incredible.
'Hopefully, you'll inspire other people to find something important to do to raise awareness. It's awesome, guys.'
As well as aiming to set a record for the fastest row across the world's largest ocean, the brothers are hoping to raise £1 million for clean water projects in Madagascar.
So far they have raised more than £125,000.
Challenges experienced by the brothers so far include salt sores, relentless weather, a broken water maker and a faulty auto helm.
Their 28ft (8.5m) carbon fibre boat, Rose Emily, is named in memory of their late sister.
It has no engine and no sail and the brothers are powering their way across the ocean in two-hour shifts.

Russell Crowe turns heads with dapper accessory as he attends Wimbledon with fiancée Brittany Theriot

Russell Crowe cut quite the dapper figure this week when he attended the Wimbledon tennis championships in London with fiancée Brittany Theriot. The Gladiator star, 61, was all class in a dark blue suit paired with designer sunglasses and a multicoloured tartan tie. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday, Russell gave fans an insight into the meaning behind his tartan accessory. Sharing an image of him and Brittany watching the action courtside, next to a close-up of his tie, Russell revealed it was a quiet nod to his Scottish heritage. 'The tie? Fraser of Lovat. In honour of all the Lord's Lovat,' he wrote. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Russell was referring to Fraser of Lovat – a Highland Scottish clan that has been associated with the area surrounding Inverness since the 13th century. The actor's nod to his Scottish forebears elicited a raft of responses from fans, with the likes of: 'Russell, you rock that tie. I like it.' Another summed up the sentiment of many with: 'Nice tie! Colours fit you well. You look younger.' Others, however, were quick to point out that the tartan displayed on Russell's tie might not be from Clan Fraser of Lovat. 'Actually it's Fraser Hunting Ancient, not Fraser of Lovat, but it's all made-up stuff so don't worry,' one fan commented. Another added: 'He's wearing the Hunting Ancient tartan, Lovat has deeper colours.' The actor revealed on X, in January last year, after digging into his family tree, that he was related to Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat, on his father's side. Fraser has the notorious honour of being the last man to be beheaded in Britain, when he was executed on Tower Hill in 1747. Sharing an image of he and Brittany watching the action courtside, next to a close-up of his tie, Russell revealed it was a quiet nod to his Scottish heritage. 'The tie? Fraser of Lovat. In honour of all the Lord's Lovat,' he wrote His killing led to the phrase 'laughing your head off' when, moments before he was put to death, a scaffold holding spectators collapsed, prompting the rebel to break out in fits of the giggles. 'Also something else that has recently come to light on my father's mother's side, via John ( Jock ) Fraser (arrived in NZ in 1841) we directly connect back to Simon Fraser. 11th Lord Lovat. Look him up,' Russell wrote at the time. 'He's quite the character. The Old Fox they used to call him. 'Seems his Machiavellian ways caught up to him at the age of 80, & he has a claim to infamy as the last man to have the head chopped off his living body in the Tower of London. His death even coined a phrase.' It comes after Russell and Brittany added fuel to the engagement fire when the actor's ladylove, 33, lifted her hand to flash a diamond ring while watching the tennis. The Art Deco-style sparkler sat in what appeared to be a platinum band and boasted several carats. Russell was clearly having a ball with his love, the two laughing and chatting together throughout the match. Brittany was glowing in a pink floral gown in pastel tones, featuring a pussy bow with a polka dot pattern. She added some mixed metal accessories, including a chunky gold watch and a silver knot bracelet. It comes after Russell ignited rumours he is set to tie the knot with Brittany in Rome. The pair had earlier sparked speculation they are engaged when Brittany was seen sporting a diamond ring. Claims are circulating that they are eyeing up an Italian wedding after reportedly visiting a church during their latest visit to the city. The couple, who started dating in 2020, visited Rome last year when Russell performed with his band The Gentlemen Barbers at the Forum Theatre. They were spotted sightseeing during their lavish getaway and reportedly visited a church in the city. 'Italy was always going to be their wedding destination. Every time they go there, they come back more in love,' an insider told Woman's Day.

Tammy Hembrow hints at 'going to therapy' following split from Matt Zukowski

Tammy Hembrow has been mending her broken heart by holidaying in New Zealand with her children following her split from Matt Zukowski. And on Wednesday, the fitness influencer, 31, revealed one of the highlights of her trip. Tammy posted a video to social media after swinging on the world's largest swing in between the mountains. She described the experience as 'therapy' after also bungy jumping in Queenstown. Many followers flocked to the comments to praise the brave mother-of-three for conquering the thrilling adventure. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Love a queen who is healing and livin!' one person wrote. 'Girl you nearly gave me a cardiac arrest lol so happy to see you doing you as you should,' a second commented. 'I hope any sad feelings you have, have dropped as fast as you did here,' another said. It comes after Tammy revealed her heart is still 'aching' following her split from husband Matt as she mends her wounds in New Zealand. Tammy fled Australia with her three children - Wolf, nine, Saskia, seven, and Posy, three - after news broke of their separation. Earlier on Tuesday, she shared a gallery of images which revealed her post-breakup weight loss as she stays at the idyllic Lake Hayes Cottages in Queenstown. 'The most beautiful stay at @qtcottages,' she wrote in her caption as she posed in front of a private hot tub in her $995-per-night lakeside cottage. 'A blissful escape in the most stunning setting. Not without moments that ache... but healing is never linear and I'm so grateful to be here with my babiesss.' Tammy has spent much of the last week documenting her stay in New Zealand following her split from former Love Island star Matt. On Monday, she shared some photos from her trip to Queenstown and revealed visiting the area would become a new family tradition. 'Something so cosy and comforting about this place,' she wrote in her caption on Instagram. 'I think we're going to have to make this a yearly tradition. The start of something new.' Matt and Tammy are now headed for divorce after just seven months of marriage, with the influencer jetting off to the South Island to recuperate in the wake of their split. Tammy announced her shock split from Matt last month in an emotional video. The former reality star also revealed the couple's separation in a sombre Instagram Story, telling fans the decision was not taken lightly. 'It's with a heavy heart I share that Tammy and I have decided to separate,' Matt began. 'Both of us have struggled with making this decision; however we need to do what is right for ourselves and her three children. 'This wasn't a decision we took lightly. Our time together will always be cherished and never forgotten,' he added, before thanking fans for their support. Despite their short-lived marriage, both parties have asked for privacy as they adjust to life post-breakup. 'We appreciate everyone's support and space at this time as we navigate the split,' Matt concluded in his emotional post.

Kyle Sandilands storms off his radio show and threatens to quit after being dumped from the airwaves for discussing Beauty and the Geek star accused of murder

An irate Kyle Sandilands sensationally stormed off his radio show on Wednesday after being dumped from the airwaves. The shock jock and his co-host Jackie 'O' Henderson had been heavily censored the day before for discussing the case of alleged murderer and former Beauty and the Geek star Tamika Chesser. Returning to the show, Kyle raged that it was 'unfair' television and newspapers were able to report on the case, complaining that radio was held to a different standard when it came to 'contempt of court.' He went on to say that the 'radio laws should be overhauled', before the show was taken off air. 'This means someone has said something inappropriate and is currently getting in trouble,' a recorded voice said. 'The broadcast will return in seconds.'From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Coming back on air, Kyle, who was broadcasting from home, was clearly not happy with the interruption and took aim at the KIIS FM censor. 'OK, so the show got dumped in the middle of a planned discussion that I had already discussed with the legal team about things that have been happening on the show,' he said. 'Why was that dumped, censor, when I was using all the correct lingo?' The censor told Kyle that it was The Kyle & Jackie O Show director Bruno Bouchet who had made the call to dump the show. 'You only dump when we've broken the law', Kyle raged, before sensationally announcing he was leaving the show. 'You know what? I'm going home – oh sorry, I'm already home. 'I'm not going to waste my life coming in here when I'm being given this instruction, that instruction, this archaic law, that archaic law. I'm not doing it. 'I'm not interested in being puppeteered by losers.' Returning to the show, Kyle raged that it was 'unfair' television and newspapers were able to report on the case, complaining that radio was held to a different standard when it came to 'contempt of court' Kyle's spray did not end there, with the radio star adding that he would not be returning to the airwaves. 'Some laws are just so dumb and stupid, and I'm not playing ball,' he said. 'Until this show runs the way I intend it to be run, I will not be back on the air at all, in any way, shape or form. 'I'm not going to waste my life here walking on eggshells around other people's ideas of what I should be doing. Kyle added: 'I do what I want to do and if you don't like it, tough s***. That's the way it is with me.' Kyle then joked he was going searching for Bruno with 'the dogs and a baseball bat' around his house before Kyle's manager returned to the mic. He admitted pulling the show off the air, saying: 'Yeah for the contempt of court stuff. I just don't want you guys going to jail.' This did not sit well with Kyle who replied he would rather face prison time than be told what to do. 'I'd rather be r***d in jail than be puppeteered by losers,' he spat. 'That's the show ripped up. Judges can shove it in their a***, ACMA [Australian Communications and Media Authority] can shove it in their a***, and so can the management of the radio station. Kyle then said that he would be off air until at least Monday before making his exit. 'Enjoy the rest of the week, guys. Arrivederci from me.' Chesser was arrested on June 19 after police responded to reports of a small fire at the Port Lincoln home she shared with 39-year-old Julian Daniel Story. But when emergency services arrived, they found Mr Story dismembered and missing his head on the bathroom floor of the apartment. Chesser was arrested at the scene and charged with murder. She is currently being held in James Nash House, a mental health facility.
