Selangor PKR director slams "malicious defamation," denies gangster ties

SHAH ALAM – Selangor PKR Communications Director, Mohd Afiq Mohd Tuniman has denied all unfounded allegations made against him in a Facebook post by an individual using the account "Suara Rakyat". In a statement on Friday, he described the post directly linked him to several serious accusations. Following a police report lodged earlier, authorities are now investigating the matter. These included involvement with the gangster group 'Kucing Merah', a brawl incident in Sungai Mas, a fire in Saujana Putra, claims of political protection to avoid legal action and recruiting youth into gangsterism. 'All these allegations are untrue, maliciously defamatory, and intended to tarnish my personal and professional reputation,' he stated. Afiq also claimed similar defamatory content had previously circulated on other platforms, including the Telegram channel 'Edisi Siasat', as well as Facebook accounts belonging to Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Cikgu Bard and Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, who also spread unfounded narratives about him. Following a police report lodged earlier, authorities are now investigating the matter. An individual named Khairul Anwar Zainal, who operates the Facebook account 'Khairul Anwar Fiza', has been detained to assist in investigations. 'I appreciate the firm action taken by the police in addressing this matter and hope that investigations will be conducted thoroughly against all involved,' he said. As a result, he confirmed legal action has been taken, including filing a civil suit and lodging criminal reports against all social media account holders involved. These actions fall under provisions of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and other relevant laws. Letters of Demand (LOD) have also been issued to the three individuals involved and responses are currently awaited. 'Despite the public apology on social media by Nik Badrul Hisham regarding the same defamatory claims, the LOD against him, who is one of the three individuals, will still proceed,' he added. He also urged the public not to share or spread any unverified information and to always act responsibly when using social media. 'I will continue to defend my name and take all necessary steps to ensure the truth prevails,' he said. Meanwhile, in a separate statement, PKR's Kuala Langat division condemned the irresponsible actions of certain parties who spread false accusations about individuals in their organisation via social media. Its Information Chief, Mohd Khairool Ngadon said the viral slander contained serious, baseless allegations with malicious intent. 'This is clearly an attempt to create confusion, damage reputations, and stir tensions at the grassroots level,' he said. He added the division supports the ongoing legal actions being taken to address the matter through lawful and proper channels. 'We firmly state that the spread of false information is a crime and action must be taken against all involved,' he said. He also urged the public to exercise caution, refrain from spreading slander, and always verify the accuracy of information before sharing. 'Keadilan Kuala Langat remains committed to upholding the truth and rejecting dirty politics,' he said.

Two Singapore teens posed as minors on dating sites to lure ‘paedophiles' and extort money from them

The two teenagers went on platforms such as Grindr and Telegram to commit their offences. - ST/ANN SINGAPORE: Two teenage boys pretended to be minors on dating sites to lure 'paedophiles' and extort money from them. In one such incident, a 24-year-old man was duped into thinking that he was meeting a 15-year-old boy for sex. When he arrived at the meeting place, one of the teenagers recorded him on a mobile phone and the pair deleted the footage only after receiving S$2,000 (US$1,570) from the man. Shaaqir Noor'rifqy Mohammed Noorrizat, 19, who was the mastermind of the plan, pleaded guilty to one count of extortion on July 4. Two other similar charges will be taken into consideration when he is sentenced in August. His accomplice cannot be named as he was just 17 years old at the time of the offences, and those below 18 are protected under the Children and Young Persons Act. His case is pending. Assistant Public Prosecutor Chye Jer Yuan said: '(Shaaqir) had come up with the idea to impersonate underage females or males on online dating applications to lure paedophiles and extort money from them.' The teenagers posed as underage individuals who were seeking sexual encounters and went on platforms such as Grindr, commonly used by gay men, and hook-up groups on Telegram. The 24-year-old man was duped on Grindr. When he went to the void deck of a Bukit Batok block of flats at around noon on Nov 6, 2024, Shaaqir and his accomplice confronted him. They started to question the man on why he wanted to meet a minor for sex and threatened to alert the police. APP Chye said: 'They told him that they would keep this a secret if he paid them, before stopping the recording. The (man) agreed and both accused followed him to withdraw a sum of $2,000.' Shaaqir and his accomplice then deleted the recording in front of the man after receiving the money. Both teenagers were arrested at around 11pm that day. The prosecutor did not disclose in court documents how the pair's offences were discovered. On July 4, the court called for reports to assess Shaaqir's suitability for both probation and reformative training. Young offenders ordered to undergo reformative training are detained in a centre to undergo a strict regimen that can include foot drills and counselling. - The Straits Times/ANN

Philippines asks Japan to help search for missing cockfighters

Published on: Friday, July 04, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jul 04, 2025 By: AFP Text Size: Filipinos from all walks of life wager millions of dollars on cockfighting matches every week. (EPA Images pic) MANILA: The Philippines' justice secretary said today he has asked for Japan's technical assistance to help the search for dozens of cockfighting participants allegedly killed by rogue police and dumped in a lake south of Manila. The case is tied to a spate of mysterious disappearances in 2022 in the Southeast Asian nation's huge cockfighting industry, known locally as 'sabong'. Advertisement Interest in the unsolved cases has surged since the televised appearance of a witness – since identified as Julie 'Dondon' Patidongan, a recent mayoral candidate – who claimed to know where bodies had been submerged in Lake Taal. Justice secretary Crispin Remulla said today he now had multiple witnesses who could 'testify where (in the water) those missing persons were thrown'. He added that a group of 15 unnamed national police officers were under investigation and put on restricted duty. 'They carried out the executions,' he said. 'I just signed a letter for the Japanese government asking for assistance to enable us to do a lakebed mapping and… other technology that we need,' Remulla added. 'We need a scientific approach here. We cannot leave it to chance.' Located about two hours south of the capital, Taal Lake is home to an active island volcano and spans more than 230sq km with a depth of 172m in some places. Patidongan initially appeared in silhouette in an interview on local television outlet GMA before later revealing himself, saying he feared for his life. He has identified Charlie Ang, a man involved in live streamed cockfighting operations, as the mastermind behind the disappearances. Ang has denied all charges and yesterday filed a lawsuit accusing Patidongan, a former employee, of slander, threats and conspiracy to commit robbery. The justice department made a series of arrests in late 2022 of police and security personnel allegedly involved with the disappearance of 34 cockfight industry participants that Remulla said were 'probably dead'. Since his televised appearance, Patidongan has claimed the actual number could be as high as 100. Filipinos from all walks of life wager millions of dollars on matches every week between roosters who fight to the death with razor-sharp metal spurs tied to their legs. The sport, banned in many other countries, survived coronavirus pandemic restrictions by going online, drawing many more gamblers who use their mobile phones to place wagers. Former president Rodrigo Duterte banned the live streaming of cockfights shortly before leaving office in 2022, but it has continued due to lax enforcement. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
