'I'm a diehard Lana Del Rey fan - everyone's wrong about her new tour'
Alongside a handful of other artists, the 40-year-old music artist has soundtracked my adolescence and early adulthood.
The melody of Summertime Sadness takes me back to sunny days spent with my sisters. Dark Paradise and Carmen became the anthem of my own indie pop-themed teen crash-out about the existential point of it all .
Norman F**king Rockwell! came out in my first year of university as I discovered the world on my own for the first time, threaded together with the backing music of Lana's ethereal notes
In recent years, Lana's Did You Know There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard and A&W perfectly capture the essence of childhood nostalgia mixed with the relentless dread of growing older, and all the messiness that it entails.
I tried to watch Lana for the first time in February 2020 – I think we can all guess how that one ended. So, this was attempt number two.
I'm not naive. I've heard the stories of the Born to Die hitmakers' poor stage etiquette – notoriously showing up late, singing off her phone, and disappointing fans with the short show lengths.
Still, when I first saw the poor reviews rolling in for her UK and Ireland stadium tour (complaints of a poor setlist and underwhelming 90-minute performance) I was still gutted and bracing myself for disappointment.
The Christian preacher we walked past on the stroll from Wembley Park station to the entrance, warning us of the hellfire that awaited, felt weirdly prescient.
And I would be lying if I said I had much interest in TikTok sensation turned debut pop star Addison Rae (who was opening for Lana as well as featuring in her set).
When she strolled onto stage five minutes early, I breathed a sigh of relief. The rest of the set proved just how wrong people had been.
Not only did Lana look a vision on stage, leaning into her familiar old Hollywood aesthetic, but her stage set-up (a tree-adorned home) felt fitting in its beauty and simplicity.
Then, of course, came the music. Ultimately, when it came down to it, belting out the lyrics to Venice B**ch, Ultraviolence, Summertime Sadness, Video Games and Young and Beautiful alongside thousands of others made the whole experience worth it.

Lana commanded the room like a witch casts a spell, with all of us hooked onto her every word and move.
Her strength has always been in the way her music connects with her audience, and the unique husk of her voice that imbues an added gravitas to her songs.
It's clear she cared about the audience experience as well, commenting on her attempts to make the sounds as high quality as possible between songs. Even her duet with Addison Rae, Diet Pepsi, ended up being a hoot.
Of course, there is no denying that the show still felt short and – given it was her first stadium tour – lengthening her setlist to cover more of her songs (including some wildcards) would have elevated this to a five-star experience.
Especially as she no longer had a new album to promote, given its unexpected delay.
My friends and I spent the whole day (July 4) anticipating she would sing National Anthem as a nod to American Independence Day to no avail. More Trending
It also felt cheeky to have a pre-recorded projection sing some of her songs when so many had paid a lot to experience her vocals live.
When compared to the theatrics brought by Taylor Swift, Beyonce, hey, even newcomers like Olivia Rodrigo – perhaps there was more scope for Lana to use the stage to create a larger-than-life performance.
In the end, the highs by far outweighed the lows and if my biggest note was that I simply wished there was more – then I'll take it as a win.

Netflix thriller climbs up top 10 with new season despite being labelled ‘tripe'
There's a new thriller doing numbers on Netflix, after the third season with six new episodes was released last week. Not one for nervous fliers, Departure kicks off with a nightmare plane journey from New York to London which results in the plane going missing. Archie Punjabi, who has not one but two airline thrillers to her name after co-starring in the Apple TV Plus hit Hijack, here plays investigator Kendra Malley. Malley is parachuted into the crisis to find where exactly Flight 176 might be and then piece together what went wrong in the air – and she has to go rogue to do so. The first season of Departure currently holds an 80% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, based on 10 reviews, but subsequent seasons were clearly not reviewed widely enough to rank. Taking to X, @Toryscott described the show as 'the biggest load of tripe' added: 'Dreadful script, a timeline that makes no sense, wooden acting, weird Americanisation and a ridiculous plot. 'Disaster struck when I went to see Oasis perform 16 years ago'
It was 16 years ago that Oasis dramatically split up – the biggest British band of their era shocked fans everywhere when they called it quits. Gallagher brothers Liam and Noel were due on stage at V Festival 2009 in Chelmsford when fans discovered that the band had unexpectedly pulled out as a result of Liam coming down with laryngitis. Oasis was over just a few days later. In the crowd at Chelmsford was 31-year-old Oasis enthusiast Tom, who was one of millions delighted when Liam and Noel patched things up in 2024 and announced a reunion tour. A string of live dates was announced for the summer of 2025, with the first of those coming on Friday, July 4—a 75,000-capacity sold-out show at Cardiff's Principality Stadium. Metro spoke to Borehamwood native Tom to see whether he forgives the Manchester Britpop band after all these years or if he still looks back in anger on the day they broke his heart. On the afternoon of Sunday, August 23, 2009, V Festival was proceeding just like the 13 successful previous years… but soon, disaster struck. Tom explained: 'I was incredibly excited. V Festival was my first ever festival. I went with my sister and my parents and had two of my favourite bands headlining—The Killers, then Oasis.' Still on a high from seeing the Mr. Brightside hitmakers the night before, Tom began Sunday eager for Oasis to cap the weekend off—only for the bad news to make its way to him just 10 minutes into the afternoon. 'It was devastating. Whispers went around. We even saw a guy draw an 'N' before the Oasis logo on his shirt, so it read NOASIS. Then the official message came through—Snow Patrol were now headliners instead. 'Everyone rushed to see Lady Gaga instead. It got so busy they had to close it off, so we didn't see her either—we were stuck with Snow Patrol.' Now, 16 years on, Tom's been lucky enough to land tickets not just for the Wembley Oasis show but for their homecoming show at Heaton Park as well, just 10 miles from their birthplace of Burnage. He can scarcely believe it. 'I always hoped [a reunion] would happen one day. But even now it still feels like a dream. In seven days, I'll be standing in a field with my mum, my sister, and my fiancée, crying my eyes out to Champagne Supernova.' Somebody who was lucky enough to catch the Importance of Being Idle chart-toppers was 31-year-old Craig, who saw one of their last-ever shows before the split. Driving down from his hometown of Perth, Scotland, Craig caught Oasis at Edinburgh's Murrayfield, paying just £44 to see them alongside Reverend and the Makers, Kasabian, and The Enemy. Those were the days. 'Seeing them in 2009 was absolutely incredible; the tickets were actually my 15th birthday present from my dad—they were an incredible surprise, and it really was an incredible gig. As a young 15-year-old kid, it was absolutely life-changing.' But did he know that Oasis was just 15 more gigs away from the very end? 'I didn't know it was nearly the end, [but] I remember Liam making a comment on-stage to the sound guys—he wasn't best pleased. There had been power issues at the Manchester show [the week before]. 'Looking back with the benefit of hindsight, it felt like they were done. The chemistry between Liam and Noel was off. It makes even more sense when you hear about them travelling separately.' Craig was hurt when Oasis called it quits just weeks after the Edinburgh show, but seeing offshoot bands like Liam's Beady Eye and Noel's High-Flying Birds live put a band-aid over the wound. In the 16 intervening years, Craig 'didn't think they'd ever play live together again, at least not in the UK'—but now he gets to pass Oasis on to the next generation in his family. More Trending 'My cousin, who's five years younger than me, when I was a teenager, I kept saying to him that Oasis are the greatest band ever. We've seen Liam and Noel solo, and it'll come full circle when we see Oasis next month.' Before Craig catches the Gallaghers at Murrayfield, Tom will get to live out his dream of finally seeing Oasis in the flesh, barring any last-minute fallouts or laryngitis issues. What will it mean to finally see them? '[The comeback shows] mean everything. I was born in 1994, so my mum and me waited 15 years to see them together. That 15-year wait has now become a 31-year wait. 'I still won't believe it until I see them walk on stage together at Heaton Park.' Got a story? Brooklyn Beckham ‘feels isolated from family' with feud raging on
Brooklyn Beckham reportedly feels isolated in Los Angeles and his relationship with his family hasn't been the same for months, claims a source. An alleged rift between the 26-year-old and his famous family has been making headlines for weeks with reports of bad blood going back toSir David's 50th birthday bash in May. Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz, 30, failed to show up for the family celebration, despite all of the other Beckham children making an appearance. Amid the ongoing feud,Brooklyn has vowed to 'always choose' Nicola, who he married in 2022, with a seemingly very telling Instagram post. A source has now told Metro that the feud is having a rather big impact on Brooklyn, who is keen to repair this relationship with his parents: 'Brooklyn hasn't felt the same about his family for months. 'It's hard to see any improvement on the relationship between either side, even though Victoria and David are desperate for things to get better.' The source added that with Brooklyn's younger sister's birthday coming up, a reunion could be on the horizon and an opportunity to repair the relationship. 'With Harper's birthday coming up, friends are hoping Brooklyn will reach out on her special day and there will be at least a small olive branch. 'When big family milestones approach, he often feels quite isolated over in Los Angeles, but he's keen to show that he loves his family deeply,' the source added. Brooklyn didn't wish his father, David a happy birthday publicly, but raised eyebrows recently as he wished his father-in-law law happy birthday on social media last week. Posting a picture of Nelson, him, and his wife posing for the camera, Brooklyn wrote: 'Happy birthday, Nelson, we love you.' Nicola is the daughter of billionaire investor Nelson Peltz and former model Claudia Heffner Peltz. The pair have been married for over 30 years and have eight children together, including Nicola. Brooklyn also didn't mark his mother's 51st birthday weeks, or Father's Day and even stayed silent when the news of Sir David's knighthood was announced, events that his siblings made sure to note. Earlier this week, Victoria and David celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary, with David marking the event with an emotional Instagram post about his wife. More Trending '26 years today you said YES to me,' he began in the caption, addressing Victoria. 'Happy Anniversary and thank you for giving me our beautiful children and building the life that we have together. I love you Lady Beckham.' He tagged their four children, including Brooklyn, despite the ongoing fallout. Metro has reached out to Brooklyn Beckham, Victoria Beckham, and David Beckham for comment. Got a story?
