Aloy reflects on historic season, eyes MLB Draft
After a historic collegiate career capped by the highest individual honor in the sport, Maui's Wehiwa Aloy is preparing for the next chapter of his baseball journey, the Major League Baseball Draft. This past weekend, the Baldwin High School graduate and Arkansas shortstop became the first player from Hawai'i to win the prestigious Golden Spikes Award, given annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country. Aloy, a junior for the Razorbacks, hit .350 with 21 home runs during the 2025 season, earning SEC Player of the Year and All-American honors while leading Arkansas to the College World Series in Omaha. He now projects as a potential first-round pick in next month's MLB Draft. The honor marked a major milestone not just for Aloy, but for the state he represents. 'It means a lot,' Aloy said. 'Just being back from a small place in Maui, it brings a lot of joy not only to a larger stage, but to the people back at home. It gives them a lot of hope, that it's possible to play at the highest collegiate level and succeed. It's something special.'

Altmyer is sticking with the Fighting Illini to try to make it to the College Football Playoff and have an opportunity to compete for a Big Ten title. Still, Altmyer did not miss the opportunity to have some fun, and 10 days after Iamaleava left Tennessee, Altmyer posted a GIF of him making a 'championship belt' celebration with the message: 'Keep the Champaign Flowing.' This made it very clear that he was staying with the Fighting Illini. Illinois went 5-7 in Altmyer's first season in 2023, but in 2024, they underwent a massive turnaround and finished 10-3, one of the biggest turnarounds in college football last season. They have an opportunity to make history this year, and it became very clear Altmeyer did not want to miss out on that.

Michigan has been the long-time favorite in his recruitment, but On3's Steve Wiltfong reported that the Longhorns were "closing the gap" as of late. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as Lee announced his commitment to the Wolverines on Friday. He chose Michigan over Texas, Alabama, and Georgia. Advertisement The Honolulu native is ranked the No. 10 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 2 overall prospect in Hawaii, according to 247Sports composite. Lee took an official visit to Texas on June 6 while Michigan received his final official visit on June 20. It's very likely Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach Kyle Flood will continue pursuing Lee until pen hits the paper. As it stands now, the Longhorns have two offensive line commits for the 2026 class in three-star offensive tackle Max Wright and three-star interior offensive lineman Nicolas Robertson. Lee's massive 6-foot-7, 310-pound frame saw him coveted from just about every powerhouse program in the country. Aside from the four finalists, he also held offers from schools like USC, Oregon, Tennessee and Miami.
