Manchester Airport's Flight Academy to re-open for kids this half term
The airport's Runway Visitor Park (RVP) will be bringing back its successful Flight Academy programme for children.
The 90-minute sessions give children the opportunity to learn about the different job roles that help ensure Manchester Airport remains in action throughout the year.
The first part of the session takes place aboard a retired DC10 airliner where youngsters sit in the cockpit, learn about job roles such as cabin crew and ground operators and they can 'take control' of the flight deck.
They then head outside to have a look at Manchester Airport's runways, watch planes taking off and landing and see some of the various jobs that they've learnt about in action.
After the session, visiting families can enjoy the RVP's facilities, including 'stunning views' over the airfield.
Sights to see include the viewing platform, overlooking aircraft such as the giant A380 coming and going at close quarters, the Park's retired airliners including the iconic Concorde, and a sizeable play area and on-site café.
A popular 360-degree flight simulator is also available, so children can experience what it's really like at the controls of an aircraft. Attractions cater to everyone from casual visitors to aviation enthusiasts.
New for this half-term, a 'Supersonic' short tour of the legendary Concorde is also available from £6 per person.
It's a 20-minute tour that will give visitors the opportunity to sit in the luxurious leather seats where royalty & celebrities once sat whilst discovering the history of this unique and innovative aircraft.
The classic hour-long Concorde tour is also available from £18 per person and includes a visit to the flight deck.
You can now book sessions between Wednesday, February 19 and Saturday, February 22 for children who are aged four to seven.
If your child is aged eight to 12, you can book the session for Wednesday, February 19 or Thursday, February 20.
Tickets cost £14 per child and one accompanying parent can enter for free. Parking is available to those taking part for the full day at the reduced rate of £5.

Manchester Airport opens redeveloped Terminal 2 with new shops and restaurants
Manchester Airport opened its redeveloped Terminal 2 departure lounge today (July 28). The opening saw six new shops and restaurants added to the terminal, including LEGO, Rituals and Pandora, which opened their first units at the airport. If you're looking to enjoy a bite to eat or drinks before your flight, you can also visit Starbucks, Upper Crust and Joe & The Juice. Manchester Airport opens redeveloped Terminal 2 departure lounge The opening marks the latest milestone in the 10-year, £1.3bn transformation of Terminal 2, which will more than double the terminal's size. An extension to the terminal opened in 2021, and the airport is now in the final stages of overhauling the original Terminal 2 building to bring it up to the same standard as the extension. More than 70% of the airport's passengers will use the new facilities, and Terminal 1 is set to close when the project is completed later this year. More than 30 million passengers have already travelled through the terminal extension since it opened in 2021, and last year it claimed a UNESCO-backed Prix Versailles award recognising its outstanding design. We have a busy few months ahead of us as we finish this transformative 10-year project. How to get tickets for Race Across the World's Manchester experience revealed
Race Across the World: The Experience, which originally first started in London, is coming to Manchester this year and ticket information has now been confirmed. The experience gives fans of the BBC series Race Across the World (RATW) a chance to race across the city much like the participants do on the programme, but on a smaller scale. Each series of the programme sees pairs race a stretch of the globe with no luxuries such as mobile phones, flights or credit cards – they only have the cash that a flight would cost. You'll have "no maps" and "no public transport" to help guide you, and you'll be against the clock. How to get tickets to Race Across the World: The Experience in Manchester Originally, when the attraction was announced, fans of the show could only sign up to the waiting list but now, we know exactly when tickets will be going on sale. CityDays explained that those who signed up for the waiting list will be able to access discounted presale tickets from Tuesday, July 22, giving them a 20% discount and 48 hours access before those who didn't sign up.
