'I'm Sick of the Superhero Title, Colon, Other-Name Thing' — James Gunn Explains Why Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Is Now Just Called Supergirl

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is now officially called Supergirl after DC Universe chief James Gunn confirmed the change.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Gunn explained the decision, which follows a similar move for this July's Superman: Legacy to be renamed Superman. He revealed that the creative group behind his films do what's called a 'premorterm,' where they try to pre-empt issues that might cause a film to flop before it starts shooting. The name Superman: Legacy was mentioned at that point.
'I'm always cutting,' he said. 'Legacy was really — we do something called a premortem. A premortem is you get together with your group that's doing the project. It's usually about a couple months before shooting, and you go, hypothetically, 'If it's an epic disaster, what are the things that we're doing today that are going to cause it to be an epic disaster? Everyone here can speak freely.' The things you find on other productions are the things that people are whispering. 'Oh, God, I don't know why they cast that actor — he doesn't fit the role.' Or, 'The production designer's never on time.'
'One of the things I brought up was, it was called Superman: Legacy. Even though I was the one that gave it that title, I just wasn't sure. First of all, I'm sick of the superhero title, colon, other-name thing. And then also it seemed to be looking back when we're looking forward, even though it does have to do with legacy in the movie itself. And everybody was like, 'Oh, yeah, no, change it.''
Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillesipe and written by Ana Nogueira, stars Milly Alcock in the title role. We know next to nothing about it (Alcock has remained quiet in recent interviews), but A Minecraft Movie star Jason Momoa has been loose-lipped, teasing his highly anticipated Lobo costume in the forthcoming film. Gunn subsequently had a laugh about the whole thing.
Supergirl — not Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow — is due out on June 26, 2026.

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer' Red Carpet: Cast Talks Keeping A Killer Secret

Nearly 30 summers later, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reunited on the red carpet for Monday's world premiere of I Know What You Did Last Summer. On the red carpet at the United Artists Theater in DTLA, Prinze told Deadline 'it was very surreal' sharing the screen with Hewitt again as they reprised their roles as Ray Bronson and Julie James in writer/director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson's update of the 1997 slasher film. More from Deadline Freddie Prinze Jr. On Reuniting With Jennifer Love Hewitt For 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' Sequel: "It's The Best Work We've Done" Rachael Leigh Cook & Freddie Prinze Jr. Set 'She's All That' Reunion In Christmas Movie For Fox Entertainment Studios Vertical Acquires Chad Hartigan Rom-Com 'The Threesome' Starring Zoey Deutch, Jonah Hauer-King & Ruby Cruz 'It was weird, man,' said Prinze. 'I never went to a high school reunion, but it was close to that as I could imagine 'cause I hadn't seen her in 20-plus years.' Prinze walked the red carpet with his wife Sarah Michelle Gellar, whom he met on the set of the original, and who previously sparked rumors of her return when she got in trouble for leaking a photo from set while visiting her husband. While there are quite a few satisfying cameos and canonical surprises, Robinson made one thing clear: Helen Shivers is dead. That didn't stop her from pitching longtime friend Gellar to reprise her role. 'I was like, 'Maybe you aren't dead. Maybe you faked your death. Maybe you have a twin,'' Robinson said. 'I really pitched any version of Helen Shivers being alive to Sarah, and she was like, 'I am dead.'' Co-writer Sam Lansky, who made his feature debut alongside Robinson, called the opportunity 'the most surreal dream come true' after growing up on the original. 'The care that these actors put into crafting these characters is extraordinary, and I was so heartened by that as a fan, to realize how deeply these actors care about these characters and care about the fans, and want to protect the characters and their legacies for the fans,' said Lansky. 'Nothing about it was casual, there was a lot of really, really deep thought and critical consideration that went into it on Freddie and Love's part that you just felt to your marrow.' Jonah Hauer-King, who plays Milo Griffin, was excited to 'recreate that brilliant universe that everyone fell in love with' while working with Prinze and Hewitt. 'They're great. I don't think the film could have really been made without them,' he raved. 'They're kind of synonymous with the original film, and I think having them back was such a stamp of approval for this new wave and for the new script. Them being back was sort of an endorsement for us and do our thing and bring our own fresh take too.' And with a new era in the slasher franchise, which was based on Lois Duncan's 1973 novel, comes a new slasher to unmask. The reveal is sure to give longtime fans a shock as the cast and creators wrestle with the killer secret. 'I know Jen's original plan was that we were going to shoot multiple endings. I can neither confirm or deny that,' said Sarah Pidgeon, who plays Stevie Ward. Prinze seems to have had a little more insight. 'No, there was a singular focus, there was a singular story. It wasn't Clue, there was no multiple endings,' he said with a laugh. For Lansky, keeping a lid on the who's behind the hook 'has been really hard' leading up to the movie's July 18 premiere in theaters. 'Keeping secrets is always really hard,' he added. 'But I think we knew there were things that we wanted to do that would be fun and surprising for the audience, and that's all I'm gonna say. I hope that everyone feels that element of surprise when they're watching in the theater for the first time.' WEAPONS Director Teases Secret Cast and Wild Twists - 'I Probably Shouldn't Even Say That' — GeekTyrant

Zach Cregger knows how to pull the rug out from under audiences. After Barbarian blindsided viewers with its unpredictable structure and grotesque surprises, Cregger's next horror outing, Weapons , is shaping up to be ambitious, and even more secretive. In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, the director teased what's coming in his next film, saying: 'I've got to be so careful about spoilers, but here's what I will say. This movie has more twists and turns than Barbarian, but what it doesn't do, very intentionally, is I never abandon the audience.' The marketing for Weapons , from its ominous teaser to the unsettling posters, has been intentionally cryptic. The story revolves around a small town where all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, leaving the town rattled and reaching for answers. But if you think the mystery ends there, think again. According to Cregger, what we've seen so far barely scratches the surface. 'There's a couple of names that aren't in the cast announcement, and there's a couple of [actors] that I think people have not realised what a big deal their characters will be. 'That's great, and I probably shouldn't even say that, but there are some actors that... it's amazing what they do… There are seven main characters in this movie and the trailer, we're leaning into two of those. But there are truly seven main characters.' Well, that's interesting! I also love the fact that what we've seen from the trailers gives us the bare minimum of what this movie entails, and I can't wait to see how this dark horror story unfolds. The announced cast already includes heavy hitters like Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, and Alden Ehrenreich, alongside Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan. But, Cregger is intentionally hiding sonme other major players. And just like with Barbarian, the trailer might be a masterclass in misdirection. Cregger explains: 'The engine of the children leaving is the engine of the whole movie, but the mystery is not the engine of the whole movie.' So there's a much larger narrative hiding beneath the surface. This movie is going to get really interesting! Weapons opens in theaters on August 8th, and if Cregger's words are any indication, this one's going to be a wild, secret-packed ride.

Legendary's STREET FIGHTER Movie Casts Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim — GeekTyrant

Legendary's live-action Street Fighter movie has added some serious martial arts credibility with the casting of Indian action star Vidyut Jammwal ( Commando ) as Dhalsim, according to Deadline. This marks Jammwal's Hollywood debut, and sources say he's been extremely selective about the project that would introduce him to U.S. audiences. Known for his intense action work and jaw-dropping fight choreography in India, the actor brings an authentic physicality to the role of Dhalsim, a fan-favorite character first introduced in Street Fighter II in 1991. Dhalsim is a yogi with the ability to breathe fire, a fundamentally peaceful man who fights only to support his family. Jammwal is already a massive star in India, with over 22 million followers on social media and a résumé that includes blockbuster franchises like Commando and Khuda Haafiz . While he's hugely popular internationally, this is his first step into the Hollywood spotlight. As previously revealed, the movie's ensemble is packed with talent, including: Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson as Balrog, Orville Peck as Vega, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda The film is directed by Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip), with plot details still under wraps. Since its debut in 1987, Street Fighter has been a cultural phenomenon, selling over 55 million copies worldwide and standing as one of the most iconic fighting game franchises ever created. Legendary seems to be going all-in on bringing the colorful, diverse cast of fighters to life, and with Jammwal stepping in as Dhalsim, fans can expect some incredible on-screen combat. What do you think of this casting choice? Does Jammwal fit the role of Dhalsim?
