TRNSMT arrest total falls to 19 after 'exceptional' festival
Nine people were arrested and charged on the final day of the TRNSMT music festival in Glasgow, taking the total over the three days to 19. Singer Rick Witter from Indie veterans Shed Seven told the BBC he believes festival crowds are more polite now than in the past."You're less likely to just see hordes of drunken men, which you used to get it. But I quite like that," he said as the band prepared to perform at the King Tut's stage. Snow Patrol topped the bill as the festival closed on Sunday evening, after Biffy Clyro and 50 Cent headlined on the previous two days. Other acts included The Script, Fontaines DC, Jade, Gracie Adams and Irish rap band Kneepcap were originally due to perform but were axed from the bill after police raised concerns about Ellis, who is head of organisers DF Concerts, said the weekend had delivered some "outstanding moments". "Biffy Clyro gave a phenomenal headline performance, Fontaines DC drew a huge and energetic crowd, and Underworld brought an electrifying, club-like energy to the Smirnoff presents King Tut's Stage on Saturday night, following a fantastic set from Jake Bugg."It's also been a pleasure to showcase emerging talent: Nell Mescal, Alessi Rose, and Nieve Ella all gave impressive performances and are certainly names to watch for the future."I'm incredibly proud of what the entire team has accomplished this year, and I'd like to thank every artist and fan for contributing to such a memorable festival."TRNSMT was first held on Glasgow Green in 2017 after it was announced that the T in the Park festival, also organised by DF Concerts, was being discontinued. Since then it has been held annually except in 2020 when it was unable to go ahead due to the Covid pandemic.

Nevada teacher confesses to child abuse and leaves apology
A former Nevada teacher has been charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse after a female relative came forward to report her to the police. Taji Hillson, 62, of Reno, was arrested on July 2, one day after she allegedly left an apology letter in a victim's mailbox. Her arrest came months after a female adult relative filed a police report on April 30 alleging that she had been sexually abused by Hillson as a child and as an adult. Even after the relative submitted four additional police reports with further evidence, Hillson still continued her work as a substitute physical education teacher at Roy Gomm Elementary School through the end of the term on June 13. Police do not believe that Hillson's abuse victims were also students of hers. Nearly two weeks later, Reno Police interviewed Hillson about the allegations, and she allegedly admitted to abusing dozens of children, mainly relatives in North Carolina, and touching a two-year-old inappropriately at a pool in the last two years. She told police she committed 'all of the actions as she never felt seen and desired to be close to another person,' the arrest report said, according to The Reno Gazette Journal. The adult victim lived next door to her and is financially dependent on Hillson, court documents obtained by 2 News Nevada, said. She allegedly started abusing the adult victim 20 years ago, and she only found out about it after Hillson left her an apology letter in her mailbox. 'The defendant admitted to giving her Benadryl to sedate her by sneaking it in her food,' the police report said. 'The Defendant described doing this throughout the victim's childhood but more frequently from age 6-12 as her husband worked night shifts at that time.' She would give the victim up to three times the recommended dose of Benadryl, an allergy medication, to 'control' her. While the woman was asleep, the mother-of-two would touch her inappropriately. She also allegedly admitted to police that she drugged and touched the victim as an adult too. The female victim had shown police text messages and the letter where Hillson allegedly admitted to her crimes on July 1. Hillson was booked into the Washoe County Jail on a $5million bail with no 10 per cent cash option, and was charged with sexual assault against a child under the age of 14, sexual assault, and three counts of lewdness with a child under the age of 14. 'The allegations in this case are deeply disturbing, and are currently involving two victims, one of whom is a toddler. I commend the extraordinary courage of the adult victim who came forward to report this abuse,' District Attorney Chris Hicks said in a statement. 'A brave act that has allowed us to seek justice and protect others from harm.' Hillson is not to have contact with the victim and if she bails out, she will have to wear GPS monitoring. Washoe County Jail does not currently list Hillson on its roster.

Here are some of the key findings of the investigation: -Allegations substantiated against Wallace Of the 83 allegations against Gregg Wallace, 45 were substantiated — mostly involving inappropriate sexual language and humour. Of the substantiated claims, some related to other inappropriate language, being in a state of undress, and one case of unwanted physical contact. Advertisement – Most alleged incidents occurred between 2005 and 2018 The report found that 94 per cent of the allegations against Wallace (94%) related to behaviour which is said to have occurred between 2005 and 2018. Only one allegation was substantiated post-2018. – Wallace's behaviour made people uncomfortable While many described Wallace as energetic and humorous on set, the same traits sometimes led to comments or interactions that made people feel uncomfortable, especially in pressured or public filming environments. Wallace's comments were sometimes met with laughter and they were only occasionally challenged at the time, the report found. Advertisement – Autism diagnosis considered in context During the investigation, Wallace was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Investigators noted this as 'highly relevant', particularly in understanding his difficulty reading social cues and use of humour as a 'masking technique'. Wallace accepts that his diagnosis may help to explain some of his actions, but he does not wish to hide behind it, the report said. – Freelancers hesitated to complain Most people working on MasterChef are freelance staff, which is common in the television industry. Advertisement Several witnesses for the report spoke about their reluctance to complain because of the perceived instability of their roles. – Inadequate complaints and behavioural policies pre-2016 The investigation found that there was little or no formal training or clear escalation procedures in place, leading to underreporting and normalisation of inappropriate behaviour. – Complaints often not escalated While 19 people said they raised concerns about Wallace, the investigation found evidence of 11 formal or informal complaints about his behaviour on MasterChef between 2005 and 2024. Of the 11 identified complaints, eight were recognised as such at the time. The other three were treated as comments, so no action was taken. Advertisement Four of the eight recognised complaints were raised with both the production company and the BBC, two with the production company only, and two with the BBC alone. – BBC issued warning in 2017 Following a 2017 complaint, the BBC formally warned Wallace that his behaviour had to change. He responded by removing himself from social settings and seeking advice from colleagues to avoid further problems. – Other substantiated complaints The investigation also looked at 10 complaints made about other people on MasterChef. Two were substantiated, relating to inappropriate language, one for swearing and the other for racist language.
