MNLU-Nagpur Gets Rs264.77 Crore for Phase 2 Expansion, to Include Hostels and Auditorium
The announcement was made by vice chancellor Vijender Kumar during the inauguration of the Phase 1 campus, presided over by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan Gavai.
Approved by the state's high-power committee in March 2025, Phase 2 will focus on strengthening core campus infrastructure. "Key components include the construction of new hostels for both male and female students, a dedicated dining hall, a full-fledged auditorium, and multipurpose cultural and academic hubs," Kumar said.
The vice chancellor added that the expansion will also enhance the central library complex and add more academic blocks to cater to the growing student intake.
"These facilities are expected to provide a more integrated and self-sufficient campus environment for students, faculty, and staff," he said.
The Phase 1 infrastructure, now operational, includes administrative offices, student service centres, and teaching blocks.

Apart from the new administrative building, the central library's Tree of Knowledge was also unveiled. "We wanted MNLU to not just be a transformative and engaging educational institute, but also an architectural milestone, which we have successfully executed from a concept to now a reality," he said.
He also noted that proposals have been submitted for additional amenities such as a football ground, a green gym, and a cricket facility with support from the district collector.
Dr Kumar credited CJI Gavai for his continuous guidance and support in building MNLU, a nationally recognised legal education institution in the city. He also thanked chief minister Devendra Fadnavis for prioritising the university's growth. "His background in law and governance has helped turn this vision into something tangible," Kumar said.
Kumar, who has been a part of MNLU Nagpur since its inception under the vision of justice Sharad Bobde in 2016, said the university was envisioned as a transformative and engaged model of legal education. With the completion of Phase 1 and the rollout of Phase 2, he added, the institution is steadily moving toward realising that founding vision.
