Saquon Barkley shades Eagles' and Giants' rivals over free agency snub

New York Post12 hours ago

Saquon Barkley's services apparently weren't desired by every club in the NFC East.
When recently discussing his free agency experience last March, when he left the Giants for the rival Eagles, the newly minted Super Bowl champion revealed the teams' division rivals didn't pursue him.
'Never heard a word from the Commanders or Dallas,' Barkley told Twitch streamer 'Janky Rondo' over the weekend when participating in teammate DeVonta Smith's charity softball game.
'That's why it's BTA [belt to ass] when I see them.'
The second overall pick with the Giants in 2018, Barkley became a franchise cornerstone who often carried a listless offense during much of his six seasons in New York.
Despite a desire to be a Giant for life, the star running back landed with the Eagles on a three-year, $37.75 million contract in March 2024.

While the Giants cratered at 3-14, things worked out quite well for Barkley in Philadelphia.
In his first season with the team, Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards in the regular season — the eighth-most in a single season ever — was named First Team All-Pro and wound up on the Madden 26 cover.

6 The Commanders, who named Dan Quinn as head coach in 2024, did not seek out Barkley either, according to the running back.

Not to mention the two-year, $41.2 million contract he received from the Eagles just weeks removed from their Super Bowl 2025 triumph over the Chiefs.
For what it's worth, Washington — whose Super Bowl berth was thwarted by Philadelphia in the NFC Championship game — never seemed to be in a position to make a pitch for Barkley.

As for Dallas, which lost Tony Pollard in the backfield to Tennessee, they got an earful for not going after Derrick Henry, who thrived in his first season as a Raven and was recently extended.
Barkley rushed for a combined 233 yards in his two games against the Cowboys last season, while he went nuclear for a combined 296 rushing yards and four touchdowns in a pair of games against the Commanders.
The Eagles will open the season against the Cowboys on 'Thursday Night Football' Sept. 4.

Eagles Should Target Steelers Tight End After Blockbuster Trade

Eagles Should Target Steelers Tight End After Blockbuster Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Eagles already have a star on their roster at the tight end position. Dallas Goedert signed a restructured contract to remain with the organization this offseason. In his seven years with the team, he's caught 349 passes for over 4,000 yards and 24 touchdowns. Advertisement However, as good as the South Dakota State product has been throughout his career, there is a big reason why his future in Philly was so clouded this offseason. He has missed 15 games in the last three seasons because of several injuries. At 30 years old, legitimate questions surround whether Goedert can be the same dependable receiving option for the Eagles in 2025. With limited options currently on the roster, there aren't many other avenues for the team to trust if their star tight end gets hurt again. Until now. With the Pittsburgh Steelers acquiring former Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith in a blockbuster deal that included All-Pro defensive backs Jalen Ramsey (to Pittsburgh) and Minkah Fitzpatrick (to Miami), the Black and Gold have added clear competition for their standout tight end. Advertisement Pat Freiermuth is 26 and coming off a respectable 65-catch season for the Steelers. While he has never made a Pro Bowl like Smith has, seeing the organization seemingly acquire a player at Freiermuth's position is eye-opening. It could also mean that the Steelers are looking to find a way to move their former second-round pick Freiermuth Freiermuth could be an excellent addition to the Eagles' roster this season. Eventually, they need to find a player they can trust to replace Goedert after 2025. The Penn State product may be the perfect match for that role. The Bar Is Low and That Might Be the Best Thing for the Cowboys

The Bar Is Low and That Might Be the Best Thing for the Cowboys originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The NFL oddsmakers are pretty low on the Dallas Cowboys' chances of success heading into the 2025 NFL season. The Cowboys currently have 50 to 1 odds to win the Super Bowl—meaning a $10 bet could be worth $500 if Dallas is able to win that elusive sixth Lombardi trophy. Advertisement The Cowboys being an underdog to win the Super Bowl is understandable, but the oddsmakers also have the Cowboys win projection at 7.5 games this season ... the lowest it's been since 2003. But ... For a team that hasn't lived up to the hype over the last two decades, low expectations for the Cowboys maybe aren't the worst thing in the world. Why? Maybe it gives them a chance to surprise rather than disappoint fans. There is still elite-level talent on the roster in the likes of Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb, and Dak Prescott. And in the previous (to 2024) three years when Prescott was healthy enough to have played double-digit games, Dallas won 12 games in each of those seasons. Advertisement Win projections are highly dependent on health, and the fact of the matter is when Prescott is healthy, the Cowboys have consistently been a competitive team. New head coach Brian Schottenheimer has also brought "immaculate vibes'' to the team and players appear to be buying into the program he is trying to build inside The Star Dallas undoubtedly has a tough schedule this season, playing both the NFC North and AFC West divisions, in addition to four divisional matchups against the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders, who were both in the NFC Championship Game last season. However, with a re-energized locker room, key stars still in their prime and no "Super Bowl or Bust'' demands, the Cowboys might just be flying under the radar just enough to surprise the league.
