iOS 26's new Liquid Glass icons are here — how to enable them on your iPhone
Instead of the usual solid app icons, Liquid Glass creates a layered effect that adapts to your surroundings and changes between light and dark environments automatically.
The feature is available now in the iOS 26 public beta and will roll out to everyone when the final version launches later on this year.
Setting up Liquid Glass icons is straightforward and only takes a few taps in your settings. Whether you want a completely clear look or prefer to keep some color, you can customize the transparency level to match your aesthetic.
Here's how to enable Liquid Glass icons on your iPhone.
You'll need iOS 26 Beta installed on your iPhone to access Liquid Glass icons. Since the feature is currently only available in the public beta, you'll need to download that version first.
The full iOS 26 release is expected in September, but the beta gives you early access to test the new design. Make sure your iPhone is compatible with iOS 26 before attempting to download the beta software.
Long-press anywhere on your iPhone's homescreen or lockscreen until you see options appear.
Tap the Edit button that appears in the top-left corner of your screen, then the Customize menu option.
This opens the menu where you can change your homescreen appearance and access the new Liquid Glass options.
There should now be a menu at the bottom of your screen showing Light, Dark, Tinted, and Clear options.
Tap Clear to access the Liquid Glass settings. This is where you'll find all the transparency options for your app icons.
Select from the three Liquid Glass options: Clear Light, Clear Dark, or Clear Auto. Clear Light makes icons completely transparent, while Clear Dark keeps some original colors with the glass effect.
Choose Clear Auto to automatically switch between light and dark modes based on the time of day.
To return to normal app icons, repeat the same steps by long-pressing your homescreen, tapping Edit, and selecting Default.
You can experiment with different looks until you find what works best for your wallpaper and personal style.

If you're a devoted iPhone owner like me, you'll be excited to check out all the exciting new updates coming to Apple's operating system this fall: iOS 26. The coolest change, in my opinion, is the new Liquid Glass design (think Windows Vista, but arguably more thoughtful), which looks to be Apple's largest visual update in years. We spent two weeks test-driving it — you can check out our detailed hands-on iOS 26 preview, or you can try it out yourself by downloading and installing the public beta, available now. (While the beta is open to the public and stable, always remember there's a degree of risk involved with beta software.) Not ready to upgrade your smartphone this year? No worries, we'll help you find out if your phone will be able to run iOS 26. Last year, Apple didn't nix any iPhones from its eligibility list, but that's not the case for 2025 — a few models are getting cut this time. All iPhone 8 models and the iPhone X were the last to get the boot in 2023, and this year the 2018 models are getting left behind. Expect a confirmation of the release date at the iPhone 17 event, expected in early September. iOS 26 features we're excited about Liquid Glass design: Your home screen is getting revamped with new app icons, including dark mode and all-clear options. You'll also notice buttons with a new floating design. Liquid Glass was designed to make all of Apple's OSes more cohesive. Phone app redesign: You'll finally be able to scroll through contacts, recent calls and voicemail messages all on one screen. It also comes with a new feature called Hold Assist that'll notify you when an agent comes to the phone so you can avoid the elevator music. Live Translate: iOS 26 is bringing the ability to have a conversation via phone call or text message with someone who speaks another language. Live Translate will translate your conversation in real time. Polls feature: Coming to group messages in the Messages app, chat members will be able to create polls. This can help prevent the unwanted 30+ messages when it comes to deciding which restaurant you're meeting at this weekend.

Apple's giant foldable iPad likely won't launch until 2028 — what we've heard
Apple is expected to launch a foldable device of some kind in 2026, and at one point, rumors suggested that at least two foldable different products would launch next year. However, a new report from analyst Jeff Pu suggests one of those devices, the foldable iPad, will actually be delayed to 2028. A research note from GF Securities lead analyst Jeff Pu (seen by MacRumors) claims that the iPhone 18 Fold is coming in 2026 and that he's seen "intact progress" in the supply chain. "On the other hand," Pu wrote in the note, "the 18.8-inch foldable device is likely to be postponed." Apparently, he did not explain his reasoning behind the delay. The report does suggest that the Apple tablet will not enter mass production in late 2026. It conflicts with Pu's own reports from April of this year saying that Apple would launch an iPhone Fold and an iPad Fold. What form the device takes has largely settle around a gigantic foldable iPad with an 18.8-inch to 20-inch display that will act as an iPad-MacBook hybrid. Here's the thing—that 2028 release date is not a new launch window for the foldable iPad. Previously, a five year Apple roadmap leaked showing the 18.8-inch foldable device coming in 2028. Gurman has also said that the foldable iPad will look like two iPad Minis side by side. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has gone back and forth, at various points suggesting 2026 or 2028 for the foldable iPad or the iPhone Fold. Currently, most rumors point to Apple launching an iPhone Fold as part of the iPhone 18 series alongside the standard iPhone 18, an iPhone 18 Air and the iPhone 18 Pro models in 2026. Reportedly, the iPhone Fold won't be "groundbreaking" but with Apple's marketing and brand loyalty, it mostly just needs to look good and work. At one point the tablet was supposed to launch first, but it now seems the book-style foldable iPhone will beat it to market.
