By: Malay Mail Text Size: 'During the last state election, certain political collaborations led to unfavourable consequences for BN, particularly in terms of integrity, trust and a shared political direction,' Suhaimi said. - The Borneo Post pic Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno has clarified that Barisan Nasional's (BN) current political stance should not be interpreted as a complete rejection of cooperation with other parties, but rather a cautious approach shaped by past experiences. In a statement released by Sabah Umno information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir, the party reiterated that BN is not closing its doors to political collaboration.
Advertisement However, any decision to form a coalition must be rooted in the people's interests, the need for state stability and lessons drawn from past political developments, especially those surrounding the 16th state election (PRN16). The statement comes in response to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) secretary-general Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun's statement recently, saying the coalition shares the same sentiment regarding Sabah BN's reluctance to team up in PRN17. However, Masidi said they have not made a firm decision on the matter until the Supreme Council meeting, which is expected to take place either this month or early July. 'During the last state election, certain political collaborations led to unfavourable consequences for BN, particularly in terms of integrity, trust and a shared political direction,' Suhaimi said. 'This is not merely about ideological differences, but also about political sincerity and consistency in leadership,' he added. He emphasised that Sabah Umno and BN's current approach is to assess any potential alliance objectively, rationally and strategically, without haste or in response to short-term political demands. 'We will not repeat past mistakes, nor will we allow Sabah Umno to once again be placed in a political position that sidelines the voices of our grassroots members,' Suhaimi added. He also stressed that determining Sabah's future should not be reduced to a numbers game of how many parties can come together at the negotiating table. Instead, it must be about forming a coalition that can ensure long-term stability, integrity and development for the people. Sabah Umno and BN's decision to adopt a more cautious stance, Suhaimi said, is a constructive step, not a confrontational one. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? He said all public transport services including trains will continue operating as usual on the day. Loke stressed that the Madani government upholds the right to peaceful assembly, even for groups opposed to the administration. 'We must not return to an era that suppressed democracy to the point of shutting down Parliament,' he said. He added that public transport must keep running to ensure that the majority of Malaysians can carry out their weekend plans without disruption. Loke took the opportunity to remind Klang Valley users that the subsidised MY50 travel pass can now be renewed online via the Touch 'n Go app. He also highlighted the RM6 MyCity Pass, which offers unlimited daily travel on LRT, MRT, BRT, Monorail and Rapid Bus services, and will be digitised by year-end. The minister then repeated his call for all rally-goers to ride public transport and help ease traffic flow in the capital. City police previously said they will not close any roads for the rally, but will deploy additional manpower to 15 train stations in the vicinity to facilitate movement. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Speaking at the launch of the party's 'Gasak 17 This Is the Time' Information Seminar on Friday, Hajiji called for clearer communication on Gagasan Rakyat's mission and the State Government's achievements. The seminar at the Sabah International Convention Centre marked the start of the three-day Gagasan Rakyat Annual Assembly. Hajiji said the party's information chiefs at all levels must now activate their networks to engage the public more effectively. He also highlighted the role of the party's Women, Youth and Beliawanis wings in ensuring messages reach communities across Sabah. Strong grassroots coordination, he said, would help reinforce public confidence in Gagasan Rakyat and the GRS-led government. Around 400 information chiefs and committee members from 74 party divisions took part in the seminar, which focused on aligning strategies to face current political challenges. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Public transport to operate as usual tomorrow, says Loke

Published on: Friday, July 25, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jul 25, 2025 By: FMT Reporters Text Size: Transport minister Loke Siew Fook encouraged rally participants tomorrow to use public transport in order to minimise traffic congestion in Kuala Lumpur. PETALING JAYA: Transport minister Loke Siew Fook says he has ordered all public transport, including Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd's train stations, to operate as usual tomorrow. In a Facebook post, he said the Madani government 'defends freedom of assembly, including for those not aligned with the government'. 'We cannot return to the times when democracy was oppressed to the point that Parliament was shut down. 'More importantly, our public transport must continue to function so that the majority can carry out their weekend activities without being disturbed by the opposition's rally. 'I encourage all rally participants tomorrow to use public transport so that traffic congestion in the capital city can be minimised,' he said. A mass rally organised by Perikatan Nasional is expected to take place in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow to call for the resignation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Earlier today, KTMB denied issuing orders for the closure of its Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Kuala Lumpur stations, after a notice made the rounds on social media. When a netizen asked about the notice in the comment section of one of KTMB's Facebook posts, the firm said there had been no official announcement from the management. The notice said that the BNM and Kuala Lumpur KTM stations would be closed from 9am to 5pm tomorrow. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
