Tanjung Aru PGRS confident of winning three seats

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) will ensure Tanjung Aru, Tanjung Keramat and Petagas are won by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the coming 17th state election (PRN17). PGRS Tanjung Aru Division Chief Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah Sahari said this confidence is based on the current situation of strong support for local parties. According to him, the situation also reflects the instability within Sabah Umno, particularly the Putatan Division, which had previously been confident in its ability to reclaim all three seats in the coming 17th state election (PRN17). 'This sentiment is also a clear message of the Sabah people's rejection of external parties, particularly Umno, while expressing their support for GRS as a coalition of local parties. 'This situation is evident from the survey we conducted, particularly in Petagas, Tanjung Aru and Tanjung Keramat, which showed that the majority of the people reject national parties and instead support GRS.' 'Support from the youth, particularly new and undecided voters, largely favours GRS and local leadership to continue leading Sabah after the 17th state election (PRN17).' 'For the people, only local parties like GRS truly understand the heartbeat of Sabah's citizens,' he said when met at the Tanjung Aru Open Fut8 Football Championship organised by the PGRS Tanjung Aru Division here on July 20. He was commenting on remarks by Umno Putatan Division Chief, Jeffrey Nor Mohamad, who had earlier expressed confidence in capturing all three seats in PRN17. He said that such confidence was understandable, as the three seats previously belonged to Umno, particularly Petagas, which was once a stronghold of Barisan Nasional (BN). Awang, who is also Petagas Assemblyman, said the focus on safeguarding the interests and welfare of the people through the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) agenda had also contributed to this public support. He said under the leadership of the Chief Minister and GRS Chairman, Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor, various assistance programmes had been provided in education, social welfare and development. 'Under the SMJ agenda, the GRS government has provided substantial assistance and incentives to the people. 'In education alone, there are numerous free initiatives for Sabah's children that have never been implemented by previous governments, including the SMJ housing aid, Syukur programme and many others.' PGRS meet to chart strategy ahead of polls

Kota Kinabalu: The Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) General Assembly, scheduled for this weekend, will serve as a key platform for charting its strategy ahead of the impending 17th State Election (PRN17). Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also PGRS President, said the three-day meeting is in accordance with the party's constitution and comes at a crucial time as the State prepares for polls. 'It is a constitutional requirement but particularly important as we are heading into a state election that could be held any time after the assembly. So, let's wait and see,' he told a press conference. Asked about the key highlights of the convention, Hajiji, who is also the Chairman of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS,) said he would deliver important announcements and messages during the assembly. On political cooperation, Hajiji confirmed that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) had held several discussions with Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PH Chairman. 'Yes, we've had several discussions, including with the Prime Minister. I believe we will come to a final decision. We will announce it when the time is right. 'There will definitely be formal discussions. We want to continue the cooperation between GRS and PH, the current State Government,' he added. Hajiji emphasised that GRS would contest the majority of seats in the coming election, while considering local aspirations in determining candidate placements and seat allocations. 'Of course (GRS will contest the majority). But we also want to listen to local aspirations. We will make the best decision for Sabah because political stability is crucial. 'It's not just about winning the election, but also about ensuring post-election political stability. GRS to pursue two-term cap on Chief Minister's tenure

GRS Deputy Secretary-General Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the proposal was approved, in principle, at the State Cabinet level under the GRS-Pakatan Harapan (PH) Plus government in December 2023. However, it could not be tabled for constitutional amendment due to lack of a strong majority in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN). Advertisement 'Previously, we did not have a stable number of seats to amend the Sabah Constitution which requires two-third majority for the proposal to be passed. 'So, during the process of drafting this Bill we decided to table it once we receive a fresh mandate. 'Therefore, GRS is hoping for a bigger win or two-thirds majority in PRN17. This commitment will be the first initiative we will carry out once we are entrusted with the people's confidence,' he said. Armizan, who is also Member of Parliament for Papar, was commenting on issues discussed in the first meeting which he chaired with representatives of eight component parties of GRS to shape the framework of the GRS Manifesto and to refine the record of five year journey under the SMJ Roadmap. He was speaking at a press conference after the launching of the 10 Star Film Community and the premiere of a box office movie Impak Maksima 2 at Majestic Ballroom of a cinema in Parklane City, Benoni here, Wednesday. Also present were 10STAR Cinemas Sdn Bhd CEO Onn Norshal Hamzah, Impak Maksima 2 director Datuk Ahmad Idham, and WSG Group Managing Director Datuk Susan Wong. Armizan said the manifesto would have two components. The first is to highlight efforts and determine the four pillar of GRS struggles – Sabah First, Sabah Forward, Sabah Prosper and Sabah United. The second is GRS' achievements for the past five years under Sabah Maju Jaya 1.0 (SMJ 1.0) Roadmap as well as the remaining ones (initiatives, efforts and policies) that are in progress. 'GRS has implemented SMJ 1.0 when it was given the mandate by 5the people to form the Sabah government in General Election 2020. 'These achievements will be presented under two categories: first, 'walk the talk' —fulfilling promises made by GRS — and second, 'work in progress' — promises that have already been acted on but not yet completed. 'We will present all of GRS's accomplishments over the past five years under the SMJ 1.0 agenda, and at the same time share the ongoing efforts that are still in progress,' he said. For example, Armizan said the 'Sabah United' pillar not only focused on fostering unity but also ensuring a stronger commitment to good governance from all levels of society. He said under the 'Sabah United' is to set a limit of two consecutive terms for the Chief Minister's tenure under the GRS's Manifesto for PRN17. Sabah Umno to focus on unity and upcoming state election
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno is focusing its efforts on winning the upcoming state election, known as PRN17, prioritising unity and a clear purpose over past disputes. Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, leader of both Sabah Barisan Nasional and Umno, asserted the party's readiness with strong grassroots machinery, renewed energy, and a clear agenda aimed at restoring effective governance under strong national leadership. "Our mission is singular and urgent, to win the state election. And we are ready with solid grassroots machinery, renewed energy, and a clear agenda to restore dignity and deliver effective governance under a strong national leadership," he stated on Thursday (July 17). Addressing recent remarks by fellow Sabah Umno leader Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, Bung Moktar emphasised that while differing opinions exist, the party's focus should remain on the future rather than past events. He noted that Abdul Rahman had referenced events from 2022, reflecting past internal differences, but clarified that the decisions then were made through collective consensus. "Politics naturally involves differences. What matters is how we resolve them. That episode is behind us. We respect the past, but we are not prisoners of it," he said. Bung Moktar also criticised certain media outlets for reviving old narratives for their own purposes. "Let me be clear, Sabah Umno is united, focused, and fully committed as one team heading into PRN17," he added. He reiterated the party's dedication to providing real solutions that address the people's needs, rather than getting entangled in old political drama. "In today's political landscape, whether in Sabah, Malaysia, or globally, the public values those who offer solutions, not those stuck in the past. That is why Sabah Umno chooses to be part of the solution, part of the future," he concluded.

Gagasan Rakyat Tanjung Aru mobilises Sembulan emergency bridge repairs

KOTA KINABALU: A community-driven 'gotong-royong' programme to repair key wooden bridges in Kampung Sembulan Tengah and Kampung Sembulan Lama was carried out this week by Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah Tanjung Aru, led by committee member Dr. Ritchie Jay Cheng. The repair works, treated as emergency interventions, aimed to restore safety and access for villagers following recent heavy rain which had damaged the bridge structures. Advertisement The team replaced broken wooden floorboards and reinforced the base structures using materials donated by Dr. Ritchie and his team. 'These efforts aren't about the upcoming 17th State Election (PRN17). 'Volunteering and community solidarity are values we've upheld for decades. This is not about praise, but about sincerity in serving where help is needed," he said. He emphasised that the interconnected wooden bridges serve as vital walkways linking many homes in the area, underscoring the urgency of the initiative. 'This gotong-royong shows that Gagasan Rakyat Tanjung Aru remains close to the people. "We are committed to continuing these efforts consistently for the well-being of our community," he added.
