Lokesh proposes ‘Data Embassies' for digital revolution
Speaking during the "Digital Infrastructure and Innovation" session, minister Lokesh emphasised the potential of data centers as economic catalysts, comparing them to how Hyderabad Airport transformed Telangana's economy. "We saw this opportunity back in 2017–18 and envisioned Visakhapatnam as India's Data City. Now we are accelerating that journey," he said.
In the session on "India–UAE Partnerships," Lokesh pitched the concept of Data Embassies, proposing that India's data could be hosted in the UAE and vice versa.
"This kind of government-to-government collaboration will define the next digital age," he noted.
The "Future of Education and Quantum Tech" session highlighted Andhra Pradesh's focus on emerging technologies. Lokesh announced that India's first 150-qubit quantum computer will be installed in Amaravati, unlocking new opportunities in curriculum design, research, and high-tech investments.
Finally, the session on "Economic Vision 2047" centered around India's broader goal of becoming a $30 trillion economy. Lokesh reiterated Andhra Pradesh's target of contributing $2.5 trillion to India's GDP by 2047, driven by youth, innovation, and world-class infrastructure.
"These are exciting times. We have the talent, the drive, and the vision. With the right partnerships, AP can lead India's digital revolution," said Lokesh.

Kuwait Petroleum to begin retiring employees over 60 this year, shifting focus to hiring young nationals
Kuwait's KPC ends automatic renewals for employees above 60/Representative Image TL;DR: Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) will begin retiring employees aged 60 and above to make room for younger Kuwaiti professionals. This step is part of a wider national workforce strategy aimed at reducing dependence on expatriate labor. Recruitment efforts will now focus on fresh graduates, especially Kuwaiti engineers and technicians. In a strategic overhaul aimed at strengthening national employment in Kuwait 's vital oil sector, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) has initiated a policy to phase out employees aged 60 and above. The decision, reported by Arab Times on August 2, 2025, marks a significant shift in hiring and retention strategy and aligns with broader nationalization efforts intended to increase the share of Kuwaiti citizens in key economic sectors. What is Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC)? Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) is the fully state-owned national oil company of Kuwait, established in 1980 to consolidate all key hydrocarbon assets under one umbrella. Headquartered in Kuwait City, KPC operates across the entire oil and gas value chain—including exploration, production, refining, petrochemicals, marketing, and transportation. It manages several major subsidiaries such as Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), and Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI‑Q8), making it a globally integrated energy enterprise that accounts for about 7% of the world's crude oil production. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sarah Ferguson breaks her silence about Prince Andrew Cleverst Undo KPC also plays a strategic role in driving sustainability, energy transition, and national economic development in line with Kuwait's Vision. Retirement of employees above 60 set to begin Under the new directive, KPC and its subsidiaries will not renew contracts for personnel who have reached 60 years of age, whether they are in technical, administrative, or supervisory roles. Only in rare and justified operational cases will an extension be considered—and that too with the approval of top-level management. This marks a move away from blanket contract extensions and introduces a more performance- and necessity-driven retention policy. Shift toward national workforce prioritized The initiative is a core part of Kuwait's 'Kuwaitization' drive, an ongoing effort to reduce the country's dependence on expatriate labor and ensure more job opportunities for its own citizens. As oil continues to be the backbone of the national economy, integrating qualified Kuwaiti nationals into all layers of the petroleum industry has become a top priority for government planners. KPC is now expected to ramp up its recruitment campaigns, particularly targeting young engineers and recent graduates from Kuwaiti universities and technical colleges. These efforts will include outreach programs, training schemes, and onboarding support, aimed at equipping new hires to take on significant roles across both upstream and downstream operations. Case-by-case review for essential personnel While the general policy dictates non-renewal beyond age 60, exceptions will be considered when specific employees hold essential skills or institutional knowledge critical to ongoing projects. Even in such cases, however, extensions will only be granted after a comprehensive review by department heads and final approval by the CEO or board-level leadership. KPC officials clarified that this is not a sudden or sweeping purge of experienced workers. Instead, the plan is structured to ensure a smooth transition where knowledge transfer from senior professionals to younger employees can occur. The long-term objective is to balance legacy experience with new-age innovation, ensuring both continuity and growth in an increasingly competitive global energy market. The phased rollout of this policy is expected to begin later this year. While exact numbers on affected employees have not been released, internal communications have already begun informing eligible staff of the impending changes. With this move, Kuwait joins other Gulf nations in reevaluating public-sector employment models to better serve national goals amid shifting economic dynamics.

At 3rd edition of Meghalaya Pineapple Festival in Delhi, MoUs signed with Reliance, Amazon units
The third edition of the Meghalaya Pineapple Festival was inaugurated on Friday at the Dilli Haat in New Delhi. Organised by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, the festival aims to position the state's agricultural growth story in the national spotlight. The event was inaugurated by Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the presence of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, along with senior officials from both the central and state governments. A key highlight of the event was the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) by the Government of Meghalaya with Reliance Fresh, Amazon Karigar, and Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters. These agreements are expected to scale up procurement, visibility, and national distribution of Meghalaya's agricultural products. 'The products of Meghalaya are almost fully organic. By marketing them well and adding value, you have shown, for the third year, that Meghalaya's products are truly special. Jackfruit, fruits, coffee, pineapple, mushrooms—everything is amazing,' said Chouhan. He added: 'Today, the air in Delhi feels filled with the fragrance of Meghalaya. The breeze, the atmosphere — everything is touched by the flavour of Meghalaya's pineapples. I already knew that Meghalaya produces very good pineapples. But after tasting them today, I couldn't stop eating! I have never tasted pineapples so juicy and sweet before. This sweetness in taste belongs to the soil of Meghalaya.' The Union Minister also commended the efforts of the Meghalaya Government and congratulated the farmers and the Chief Minister. 'On behalf of the Government of India, I assure you, Chief Minister ji, whenever Meghalaya calls, the Government of India and the Agriculture Ministry will always stand with you,' he said, while encouraging Delhi residents to visit the festival and experience the taste of Meghalaya's produce. The event also included the unveiling of Meghalaya's achievements in the agriculture sector, aligning with its Vision@2032 plan to transform the state into a $16 billion economy. The strategy outlines a five-year plan to enhance farm infrastructure, encourage crop diversification, improve processing and logistics, and raise farmers' incomes through market-based initiatives. 'This is the third edition of Meghalaya Pineapple Festival, and we are very happy that every year this is becoming bigger and better. More importantly, our farmers are getting the necessary exposure and the network they require and they truly deserve,' said Sangma. Briefing the Union Minister, Sangma shared: 'Our state produces around 1.5 lakh metric tonnes of pineapples every year, and a large share of this is consumed within the Northeast itself. Over the past few years, we have set up various fruit processing units to enable value addition—not just for pineapples, but also for turmeric, black pepper, and other produce, with the goal of meeting international packaging and quality standards. Our aim is to establish one such unit in each of the 55 blocks of the state, catering to the prominent value chains in the block.' He further added: 'The MoUs we have signed today will provide crucial logistics support and help distribute our products across the country. This initiative is not limited to Meghalaya alone—we want to connect fresh produce from across the Northeast to national and international markets.' Over the past three years, Meghalaya has developed more than 27 cold storages, eight processing hubs and logistics facilities, including mobile units and refrigerated trucks. In 2024, over 682 metric tonne of processed pineapples were exported to the EU, Gulf countries, and Southeast Asia. Additionally, more than 150 metric tonne were sold domestically in Indian metros through institutional partnerships. The Meghalaya Pineapple Festival 2025 features curated stalls from multiple farmer cooperatives, live tastings, value-added products, B2B networking, and cultural performances. Musicians from the Garo, Khasi, and Jaintia Hills, under the Chief Minister's Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (CM-MGMP), will perform at Dilli Haat and India Gate during all three days of the event. A short film titled 'Meghalaya Agriculture & Horticulture' was also screened during the event to highlight the state's initiatives. The festival is open to the public daily from 11 AM to 8:45 PM until August 3 at Dilli Haat, INA. Entry is free.
