India's foodgrain production rises by 106 lakh tonnes in FY25, hits 1,663.91 lakh tonnes: Agri Minister Shivraj Chouhan

on Monday.
"In 2023-24, total foodgrain production was around 15,57.6 lakh tonne. I am glad to tell you that in 2024-25, it has become 16,63.91 lakh tonne," Chouhan said addressing a
press conference
in the national capital.
"The production of Rabi was 1600.06 lakh tonne in 2023-24, now it has become 1645.27 lakh tonne," he said.
The Union Minister said that his ministry's vision is to make India the food basket of the world.
"Our foodgrain production is increasing...we don't want to stop here. We want to fulfil the needs of our country and also help several countries across the world. Our vision is to make India the food basket of the world, one day," the minister said.

Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan
in Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Auditorium in Nagpur.
Emphasising increasing agricultural production, Chouhan said that the Clean Plant Program is being run to ensure pure and disease-free nurseries. To increase production, farmers should understand the need for good quality seeds, soil testing and reduction in production costs.
During the event, the Union Agriculture minister informed that ICAR has 113 institutes across the country, 11 of which are in Maharashtra. He announced that a meeting with heads of all ICAR institutes would be held at the National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS & LUP) in Nagpur to chart the course for agricultural development in Maharashtra. The government is committed to bridging the gap between laboratories and farmlands.

Centre approves Rs 1,900 crore plan for PM MITRA park in Virudhunagar
CHENNAI: In a significant boost to the state government's ambition to cement its position as India's textile powerhouse, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh on Tuesday announced the approval of a Rs 1,894-crore development plan for the Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park coming up in Virudhunagar district. The 1,052-acre site will host a next-generation textile manufacturing ecosystem focused on technical textiles and integrated processing units. It is one of seven PM MITRA parks being developed nationwide under the centre's flagships scheme aimed at catalysing India's textiles sector with world-class infrastructure, policy support and investment incentives. The project, which was formalised in 2023, is the outcome of prolonged negotiations between Chief Minister M K Stalin's administration and Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh. State Industries Minister T R B Rajaa termed the approval as a big boost for TN's textile sector and called it 'a result of relentless follow-up and collaboration'. Works are targeted for completion by September 2026, with the state government projecting Rs 10,000 crore in investments and creation of one lakh jobs. 'TN is already India's top textile exporter, and now we're scaling up with ambition,' said Rajaa. Planned features include a 15-MLD common effluent treatment plant with zero liquid discharge, a 5-MLD sewage treatment plant, 10,000-bed worker accommodation and 1.3 million sq ft of plug-and-play and built-to-suit factory space. Tamil Nadu joins six other states — Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh — chosen to host PM MITRA parks.

Can India's ELI scheme generate 35 million jobs?
Having been announced in the budget, India's employment-linked incentive scheme (ELI) now seems ready for roll- out. On Tuesday, the Union cabinet approved an outlay of ₹1 trillion for it with the aim of creating as many as 35 million jobs over two years. Also Read: To generate jobs, India should consider a jobs-linked incentive scheme Under this scheme, first-time employees whose salary is under a certain limit will be given up to ₹15,000 in two instalments and employers will get up to ₹3,000 per month for two years for every additional employee hired and kept employed for at least six months. Also Read: Himanshu: Will the budget's proposals help revive India's rural economy? In the manufacturing sector, this incentive will be extended to the third and fourth years as well. With unemployment a big issue among India's youth, the government is betting that this subsidy will get private businesses to step up recruitment. But it's unclear if this alone will suffice. In many cases, recruiters have been going slow because they don't see sufficient scope for business expansion, with profit growth in focus instead.
