Notre Dame Lands Elite Cornerback Khary Adams: Breaking It Down originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
On Friday, Notre Dame landed a pair of talented defensive backs and the first to commit was Towson (Md.) Loyola Blakefield cornerback Khary Adams. It was a massive recruiting win for Notre Dame as the Irish staff looks to once again land one of the nation's best secondary classes.

Right after Adams committed the Irish Breakdown team broke down what it means. Here's the entire video of the Adams breakdown segment.
Here is a rundown of the Adams commitment video:
*** To kick the show off the IB team discusses how important this commitment is for Notre Dame. That is followed by a dive into the back story of how this commitment came to be. Notre Dame worked on landing Adams for over a year, and secondary coach Mike Mickens did a great job of establishing a great relationship with Adams. After his April visit to Notre Dame the Irish made up a lot of ground, and they were in a great spot going into the official visit period. It was the final visit, however, that helped Notre Dame seal the deal.

*** Next up in the show is the Class Impact, where the IB team breaks down how this commitment impacts the Notre Dame 2026 recruiting class and the Irish secondary. Notre Dame was looking for impact over numbers in the 2026 cornerback class, and Adams certainly gives them that kind of talent.
*** After the Class Impact the team dives into the film room to break down what makes Adams such an impactful football player. Like many of Mickens' top defensive backs in recent seasons, Adams is an impact player on both sides of the ball.
*** The final portion of the show looks at what's next for Notre Dame when it comes to secondary recruiting.

Detroit could add another former Yankees infielder as trade deadline approaches

Detroit could add another former Yankees infielder as trade deadline approaches originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tigers don't need a superstar. They need a solution. Detroit's issues on the left side of the infield have been tough to ignore and according to ESPN's Bradford Doolittle, the answer might be a low-profile, high-utility veteran. In a recent deadline preview, Doolittle pegged Pirates infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa as a sensible target to stabilize shortstop or third base. Advertisement 'A lower-profile move that would really help would be to target a shortstop like Isiah Kiner-Falefa,' Doolittle wrote. 'Whose bat actually improves what Detroit has gotten from the position just in terms of raw production.' Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa records an out at second base and throws to throws to first against the Kansas City Royals at PNC Park on Sept. 13, LeClaire-Imagn Images It's a fair point. Kiner-Falefa isn't lighting up leaderboards. The Pirates infielder entered July hitting .276 with a .668 OPS—but he's still outpacing the Tigers' current infield output. More importantly, he brings versatility, experience, and strong defensive instincts. Now in his eighth season, the 30-year-old has logged innings at short, third, second, and even catcher. He's a former Gold Glove winner with postseason experience, and he rarely looks overwhelmed, no matter the assignment. Advertisement He is also a former Yankees shortstop, which means he has playoff experience and doesn't get overwhelmed on the big stage. And the Tigers have had some success with former Yankees infielder with Gleyber Torres having a breakout year. For a team like Detroit, that matters. While the Tigers could chase a bigger name, the shortstop market isn't exactly overflowing. If more aggressive options fall through, Kiner-Falefa would still provide immediate, reliable help. He's a plug-and-play piece—someone who could stabilize the left side now and slide into a utility role later. It's not the kind of move that grabs headlines, but it's a solid upgrade. For a Tigers team running away with AL Central and focusing on the playoffs it's exactly the kind of steadying move that makes a difference in October. Royals Eye Outfield Upgrade as MLB Trade Deadline Looms

Royals Eye Outfield Upgrade as MLB Trade Deadline Looms originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Royals have long valued the impact of switch-hitters in the middle of their lineup. Their 2015 World Series team got a major boost from Kendrys Morales, and that memory still resonates within the organization. This past offseason, the Royals reportedly offered a three-year, $66 million offer to another switch-hitter, Anthony Santander, who ultimately signed with the Toronto Blue Jays. Advertisement With the MLB trade deadline approaching and the Royals sitting last in the majors in runs per game, they're again exploring options to upgrade their lineup. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Kansas City is keeping tabs on several hitters. One name emerging as a potential fit is Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds. Reynolds, 30, is warming up at the plate, improving his .644 OPS in March/April to .732 in May and .772 in June. Despite concerns about his defensive metrics, his offensive track record from 2021 to 2024 suggests he could be a value play. However, Reynolds is still owed $74 million from 2026 to 2030, with a $2 million buyout on a $20 million club option for 2031. Advertisement With so many teams desperate for bats, Rosenthal notes that Reynolds is likely to draw attention in the coming weeks. Kansas City might be one of the teams willing to take that swing. Dodgers Make Move After Max Muncy Injury

Dodgers Make Move After Max Muncy Injury originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Max Muncy is in his tenth major-league season after debuting with the Oakland Athletics in 2015. After struggling to find his stride in Oakland, he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018, where over the past eight seasons he has experienced a career turnaround. Advertisement During his Dodgers tenure, Muncy has collected 701 hits, 203 home runs and 575 RBIs across 905 games, playing a massive role in Los Angeles' World Series victories in 2020 and 2024. He has also appeared in two All-Star Games at third base, cementing his reputation as one of the game's best corner infielders. Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy (13)Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images In a 5–4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, Michael A. Taylor attempted to steal third base, colliding with Muncy as the Dodgers' third baseman applied the tag. Muncy grabbed his left knee upon hitting the dirt and was removed from the contest immediately. As he undergoes further testing—including an MRI on Thursday—the Dodgers called up Esteury Ruiz to take his roster spot. Advertisement Los Angeles acquired the speedy outfielder from the Athletics in April in exchange for minor-league right-hander Carlos Durán. After a slow start to 2025, Muncy has been among baseball's hottest hitters of late. In June, over 78 plate appearances, he batted .333, smashed seven home runs and drove in 24 runs—timely production that offset the June struggles of stars like Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts. Muncy's efforts of late have helped the Dodgers extend their NL West division lead to 8.5 games entering Thursday's series finale against the White Sox, and if he misses extended time, it would be a huge loss.
